CalFresh benefits missing today - anyone else's EBT not loaded on schedule?
Has anyone else checked their EBT card this morning? My CalFresh benefits are supposed to load on the 10th (like every month) but there's nothing there! I called the EBT customer service number but all I got was that automated system that just tells me my balance. I have 3 kids at home and was counting on those benefits for groceries today. Is this just me or is there some kind of system delay happening? My last quarterly report was submitted on time and I haven't received any notices about changes to my benefits. Really stressing out right now and the county office doesn't open for another 2 hours.

•Wow so it's not just me! Have you had any issues with your SAR7 or anything? I'm wondering if it's a system glitch or if there's something wrong with our cases specifically.

Benefits are issued over the first 10 days of the month based on the last digit of your case number. Has your issuance date changed recently? Also, there have been some system maintenance issues this month that might be causing delays. If your case number ends in 0, your benefits should deposit today, but there could be a processing delay of 24-48 hours. I'd recommend checking again tomorrow morning before panicking.

•My case number ends in 0 and I've always gotten them on the 10th since I started receiving CalFresh in 2023. I'm definitely going to panic a little because I have hungry kids and an empty fridge! But thanks for the info about the system maintenance - that gives me some hope it might just be delayed.

I've had this happen twice. Once was because they needed additional verification they never told me about, and my benefits got held up. The second time was just a system delay and they appeared the next day. Check BenefitsCal to see if there are any notifications or tasks you need to complete. That's faster than waiting to talk to someone.

•Thats smart advice. BenefitsCal always shows messages before they mail them out. That's how I found out they needed my paystubs last month before they ever sent a letter!!

I used to have this problem almost every other month. Turns out if you're on HOLD you need to call your caseworker directly, not the EBT customer service number. The EBT folks can only tell you your balance, they can't tell you why benefits aren't there. You need to speak with your actual county worker. Have you tried Claimyr? It's a service that gets you through to a live person at the county office without all the waiting and disconnections. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. Saved me so much frustration when I had a similar issue with delayed benefits.

•I've never heard of that service before! I'm going to check it out because I absolutely hate calling the county office. Last time I tried, I was on hold for 2 hours and then got disconnected. Do you know if they can actually help with benefits that should have loaded today?

Yes, they can absolutely help with benefits that should have loaded today! When you get through to your worker, they can check if your benefits are on hold and why. Often they can release them same-day if there isn't an actual issue with your case. A lot of times it's just a system flag that needs to be cleared by a human.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME with the regular EBT customer service line OR BenefitsCal!!! The county NEVER updates information on time. I went through this EXACT thing in February and it was because they claimed they sent me a verification request that I NEVER received!!! Then they discontinued my benefits without notifying me! Had to fight for WEEKS to get my benefits back AND get retroactive payments. The system is COMPLETELY BROKEN and they don't care that people are going hungry because of their mistakes!!!

Quick update - there IS a confirmed system delay affecting several counties today according to a notice just posted on the CDSS website. Benefits for case numbers ending in 0 and 1 are delayed but should be deposited by midnight tonight. If you don't see your benefits tomorrow morning, then you should definitely call your county office.

•I'm pretty sure my SAR7 was fine - I submitted it online through BenefitsCal last month and got a confirmation. I haven't had any job changes or anything. Based on what others are saying, I'm hoping it's just the system delay!

I'm so glad to hear your benefits came through! This is exactly why I always recommend people check this community first when they have issues - you get real-time updates from people going through the same thing. The system delays seem to be happening more frequently lately. For anyone else reading this thread in the future, it's worth knowing that the CDSS website posts official notices about system issues, and checking BenefitsCal for any pending tasks or messages is always a good first step. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and advice!
