CalFresh benefits missing today - usual deposit date but nothing loaded to EBT

I'm freaking out a little. My CalFresh benefits are always deposited on the 9th of each month (based on my case number ending in 9). Checked my EBT card balance this morning and NOTHING was added. Still showing the $17.43 I had left from last month. Has anyone else's benefits not shown up today? I called the EBT customer service number but it just gives automated responses, and when I tried calling my county office, I've been on hold for over an hour. I've got 3 kids and I was counting on those benefits for groceries this week. Anyone know if there's a system delay or something happening with benefits today?

That's exactly my situation too! Not due for recertification until June. Did you get any notices in the mail recently? I'm wondering if there's a system-wide issue.

This sometimes happens when there's a holiday or system update. Benefits are usually deposited based on the last digit of your case number, but occasionally there can be a 1-2 day delay. Before panicking, check if you've received any notices about changes to your case or if you missed submitting a SAR7 or other required documentation. Also, make sure your EBT card hasn't expired - sometimes people forget their cards have expiration dates. If none of these apply, keep trying to reach your county office. They're the only ones who can see exactly what's happening with your specific case.

Thanks for the info. My card doesn't expire until 2026, and I haven't received any notices. I did submit my SAR7 two months ago and got confirmation it was processed. I guess I'll keep trying the county office. Really hoping it's just a delay.

I've been checking my mail religiously, but I'll double check today's mail when it comes. You're right - they can ask for verification at any time. It's so stressful.

I've had this happen twice in the past year. Once was because they needed additional verification of my rent (even though nothing changed!) and once was just a system delay where benefits posted 2 days late. The frustrating part is trying to get through to someone at the county office to find out what's happening. I spent 3 hours on hold last time before getting disconnected. I recently discovered this service called Claimyr that actually gets you through to a real person at the CalFresh office without the crazy wait times. It worked amazingly well for me when I had an issue with my recertification last month. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 and their website is claimyr.com. Definitely worth it when you're desperate to talk to someone!

Thank you so much for this recommendation! I'm going to check it out right now because I NEED to talk to someone today. Getting disconnected after waiting for hours is the worst feeling.

There is actually a statewide system issue affecting some EBT deposits today. I just got off the phone with my county office (I had a separate issue to resolve). The worker mentioned they're getting lots of calls about delayed deposits and their supervisor confirmed it's a known issue they're working to resolve. Benefits should post within 24-48 hours. If you don't see them by Thursday, then definitely follow up.

Oh thank goodness! That's such a relief to hear. I appreciate you sharing this information. At least now I know it's not just my account and that it should be resolved soon.

This happened to me in February!! Turned out they had sent me a notice asking for proof of utilities but it got sent to my old address even though I updated my address with them 3 TIMES!! So frustrating. Make sure all your contact info is updated in the system. Sometimes they'll suspend benefits first and notify you later which is completely backwards if you ask me.

Ugh the system is so broken. I once had my benefits stopped because they said I didn't turn in a form that I literally handed to a worker in person AND got a receipt for. Took 3 weeks to fix.

I'm going through the same thing right now! I called the county using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above (it actually worked pretty well), and they confirmed there's a delay in the system. The worker told me they're processing benefits in batches, and some should appear today while others might take until tomorrow. She said they've been getting calls all morning about it. If you haven't received anything by Thursday, definitely call back.

That's good to know! I'm glad to hear confirmation from someone else. Did they give any reason for the delay? Either way, I'm relieved it's just a system issue and not something wrong with my case.

Just as an update for everyone - the state CalFresh website now has a banner indicating there's a system delay affecting benefit issuance. They expect all benefits to be deposited by tomorrow morning. If you're in an emergency situation and need food assistance immediately, you can contact your county office and request expedited assistance. They may be able to help with emergency food resources while waiting for the system issue to be resolved.

Thank you so much for this update! I just checked the website and see the banner now. What a relief. We can make it through one more day with what we have at home. Really appreciate everyone's help and information!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I was panicking this morning when my benefits didn't show up either (my case number ends in 1 so I usually get them on the 1st). I've been dealing with CalFresh for about 2 years now and this is the first time I've experienced a system-wide delay like this. It's such a relief to know it's not just me and that there's an official acknowledgment of the issue. The stress of not knowing whether your benefits are coming when you're depending on them for your family is just overwhelming. Thank you to everyone who shared updates and resources - this community is really helpful during times like these!

I completely understand that overwhelming feeling! I'm new to this community but going through the exact same thing today. It's such a relief to find others experiencing this and to know it's a system issue rather than something wrong with our individual cases. This thread has been a lifesaver - I was starting to panic about how I'd feed my kids this week. Really grateful for communities like this where people actually help each other out instead of just complaining. Fingers crossed we all see our benefits tomorrow morning!
