CalFresh deposit delay on regular deposit date - are 12am benefits late?
Kinda freaking out here. My CalFresh benefits always hit my EBT card at exactly 12am on the 4th of each month. It's now almost 7am and nothing has been deposited. I've been counting on these benefits for a big grocery shop today since my kids are completely out of everything. Has anyone else experienced delays with their regular deposit date? Do system outages happen often? I'm wondering if I should call the EBT customer service line or if this is a known issue that will resolve itself. My benefit amount shouldn't have changed since I'm not due for recertification until September.

Same thing happening to me! Mine always loads at midnight too and nothing yet. Checked my balance online twice already.

•Glad I'm not the only one. Have you tried calling yet? I'm juggling kids right now so haven't had a chance.

This happened to me last November!!! The county worker told me it was some kind of SYSTEM WIDE GLITCH and everyone's benefits were delayed by like 18 hours. I was PANICKING because I had planned my whole grocery trip around it too. So frustrating when you can't count on the one thing that's supposed to be reliable!!!!

•Oh thank you, that makes me feel better. Did yours just show up later that day without you having to do anything?

•Yeah they just randomly appeared around 6pm that evening. No explanation or anything. I spent the whole day anxious because I thought maybe they cut me off for some reason!!!

There are a few possible explanations for this delay. First, CalFresh benefits sometimes experience system delays due to maintenance or technical issues at the state level. These usually resolve within 24 hours. Second, if there was any recent change in your case (even if not reported by you), that could trigger a manual review that delays the deposit. The good news is that benefits are rarely completely stopped without advance notice, so it's most likely just a timing issue. You can check the EBT customer service website for any system notices, but it might be faster to call the EBT customer service number at 1-877-328-9677 to confirm whether this is a system-wide issue or specific to your account.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation. I'll try calling the EBT number, though I've had trouble getting through in the past. I haven't made any changes, but maybe something flagged in their system?

hey, i worked for calfresh for a bit back in 2023. sometimes theres batch processing issues that delay everyone. usually fixes by end of day. dont stress unless its been more than 24 hrs. if ur worried about ur eligibility u can always check benefitscal.com to see if ur case is still active

•Is it true that they're changing all the deposit dates in 2025? I heard from my neighbor that everyone's getting switched to different days based on case numbers.

•not that i know of, thats probably just a rumor. they would send official notices if something that big was changing.

I had such a hard time getting through to anyone about a similar issue last month! I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a real person at the county CalFresh office. They basically call for you and connect you when a real person answers. Saved me from waiting on hold for hours. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. The worker told me that sometimes there are system delays that affect specific counties or even specific case number ranges. Getting through to a real person was the only way I could get accurate information about what was happening with my benefits.

•That sounds like exactly what I need! I've wasted so much time on hold before. I'll check out that link if my benefits don't show up soon. Did the worker actually help resolve your issue?

•Yes, they were able to tell me exactly what was going on and when to expect my benefits. Much better than the general EBT customer service which just gives generic answers. The county workers can see your actual case details.

This occurs occasionally with CalFresh deposits. Benefits are typically issued overnight in batches, but system delays can occur. In my experience assisting clients, these delays usually resolve within 24 hours. A few important points: 1. Deposits can be delayed due to state-level system maintenance (usually planned but not always announced) 2. If the 4th falls near a weekend or holiday, processing might be affected 3. Your regular issuance date shouldn't change unless you've received a notice 4. If your Semi-Annual Report (SAR7) or recertification is coming due soon, make sure those are submitted on time I recommend checking again around noon and this evening. Only if benefits haven't appeared by tomorrow morning would I suggest contacting your county office directly.

•OMG THANK YOU! Just checked and mine are there too! What a relief. Definitely a system delay like everyone suggested. Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance!

•See? Just like what happened to me. They should really NOTIFY us when these delays happen instead of making everyone panic!!

This is why I always keep some extra food on hand for these situations. The system is so unreliable sometimes. Glad it worked out!

•You're right, that's a good reminder. I usually do have backup but this month has been especially tight with school starting.

So glad everything worked out for you @Amina! I've been through this exact same panic before. For future reference, I've found that keeping the EBT customer service number (1-877-328-9677) saved in my phone helps, and they usually have recorded messages about system-wide delays when they happen. Also, some food banks and churches do emergency food assistance if you ever get stuck waiting for delayed benefits again. It's such a relief when those funds finally show up though - hope your grocery shopping went well!
