CalWORKs payment missing this month - anyone else not seeing their Cash Aid deposit?

I was supposed to get my CalWORKs payment 3 days ago and my EBT account is still showing zero balance! This is the 3rd time this year my money's been delayed and I have rent due in 2 days. Called the customer service line twice yesterday but got disconnected after waiting 40+ minutes each time. Has anyone else not gotten their Cash Aid this month? I checked BenefitsCal and my case shows 'active' so I don't understand what's happening. Really stressing out because my landlord doesn't care about county delays when rent is due.

Mine finally showed up this morning but it was 4 days late. No explanation. The system is broken AF

Did u have to do anything to make it show up or it just appeared randomly? At least there's hope mine might come soon

Yep happening to me too. My worker told me there's some kinda big system update they're doing that's causing payment delays for people in certain counties. She said the funds should be released within 5 business days of the normal date. It's so frustrating they don't warn us ahead of time when we have bills to pay!!

OMG at least you got through to your worker! I've been trying for 2 days with no luck. Do u know if this affects everyone or just certain cases?

This happens sometimes and is usually because of one of these reasons: 1. If you recently submitted your SAR7 and there was an issue with it 2. If you're near your Income Reporting Threshold (IRT) and they're reviewing income verification 3. There was a county-wide system issue as someone else mentioned The fastest way to resolve this is to speak with your assigned worker directly. If you call the main CalWORKs number and select the option for "case information" then enter your case number, it should route you to the right department. Make sure you have your case number and client ID ready when you call.

Thank you for the info! I did submit my SAR7 last month but it was approved without issues according to the letter I got. My income hasn't changed at all so it shouldn't be an IRT problem. I've been trying the main number but keep getting disconnected after waiting forever.

Have u checked ur mail? Sometimes they send notices about verification they need that can hold up ur payment. I missed a letter once asking for my kids school attendance verification and my cash aid was delayed for almost 2 weeks. The stupid thing is they never called or texted just sent a letter that got lost in my mail pile

I haven't gotten any letters asking for verification, but I'll double check today's mail just in case. It's so annoying they can just stop our money without making sure we know why!

Try using Claimyr to get through to the CalWORKs office - it worked for me when I had missing payments last month. It's a service that basically calls and waits on hold for you, then calls your phone when a real person answers. I was skeptical but the video demo convinced me: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE. Their website is claimyr.com. Saved me from hours of hold music and getting disconnected repeatedly.

I've used this too. It's ridiculous we have to pay a third-party service just to reach our workers, but when you're desperate to find out why your cash aid isn't there and rent is due, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. This is especially useful for getting through to the specialized WTW workers who seem impossible to reach directly.

Never heard of this before but I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. Does it cost money? I'll check out that video. Thanks for the suggestion!

Update on my situation - I finally got through after trying for 3 days. Turns out they flagged my case for an "income discrepancy" because my last employer reported my final paycheck to EDD, even though I included that same info on my last SAR7. The worker was able to clear it and said my payment should post within 24 hours. My advice: keep calling and document EVERYTHING. Note the time/date of each call attempt, take screenshots of your BenefitsCal account showing "active" status, and if possible, go to your local office in person. Sometimes that's faster than trying to call.

That's such good news! Thanks for sharing what happened. I've been keeping a log of all my call attempts with times/dates so hopefully that helps if I ever get through. Might try going in person tomorrow if I still can't reach anyone by phone.

this is why im bout to give up on calworks completly... they expect us to report everything exactly on time but then they can just randomly not give us our $$ with no explanation?? my car payment bounced last month becuz of this exact thing and i got hit with $75 late fee that the county wont reimburse me for

Same!! I'm going to get charged late fees on my rent that I can't afford. Someone should file a class action lawsuit honestly

If your payment was delayed due to county error, you can request compensation for late fees. You need to submit verification of the late fee to your worker along with a written statement. It's called "underpayment correction" and they're required to review these requests. Not guaranteed but worth trying.

For future reference, if your CalWORKs payment doesn't post when expected, immediately check these things: 1. Log into BenefitsCal and make sure there are no alerts or pending verification requests 2. Call the automated system (not a live person) to check if your case shows any holds 3. If it's between the 1st-3rd of the month, delays are more common due to system processing volume 4. Check if you recently hit a WTW milestone that requires review (job search period ending, etc) Also, consider setting up direct deposit rather than EBT deposit for your cash portion - it's often more reliable and can post 1-2 days faster. You can keep food benefits on the EBT card while having cash benefits go directly to your bank account.

Wait, you can get direct deposit for the cash part?? My worker never told me that was an option! I definitely want to set that up once this current issue is fixed. Thanks so much for the info!

I'm dealing with the same issue right now - my payment is 5 days late and I'm getting really worried. I called the main number yesterday and actually got through to someone after about an hour wait (kept hitting redial when it disconnected). The worker told me there's been a statewide system glitch affecting payments processed between March 19-22, which explains why so many of us are having problems this month. She said they're working on it but couldn't give me an exact timeline. Really frustrating when you're counting on that money for basic necessities. At least knowing it's a widespread issue makes me feel less like it's something wrong with my specific case. Hang in there everyone - sounds like we're all in this together!

Thanks for sharing that info about the statewide system glitch! That actually makes me feel a lot better knowing it's not just me or something I did wrong with my case. An hour wait is brutal but at least you got through to someone who could explain what's happening. Did they say if there's anything we can do to speed up the process or do we just have to wait it out? Really appreciate you taking the time to call and share what you found out with the rest of us!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now - my payment was supposed to come 4 days ago and nothing! I've been calling nonstop but keep getting the busy signal or getting disconnected after waiting forever. It's so stressful because I need to pay utilities and buy groceries for my kids. Reading through all these comments makes me feel less alone though - sounds like this system glitch is affecting a lot of us. I'm going to try that Claimyr service someone mentioned and also see if I can get to my local office in person tomorrow. Really hoping this gets resolved soon because I can't keep waiting much longer. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences and tips!
