CalWORKs April payment missing but diaper allowance came through - anyone else?
Is anyone else still waiting on their April CalWORKs payment? My cash aid was supposed to hit my account yesterday but nothing's showed up yet. The only thing I received was the $30 diaper allowance for my youngest (she's 2), but the main cash aid amount is completely missing. I checked BenefitsCal and it shows my case is still active with no issues. Called the customer service number twice but got disconnected both times after waiting 45+ minutes. I'm freaking out because rent is due in 3 days and I've already told my landlord the payment was coming. Has this happened to anyone recently? Could this be because I started that part-time job last month?

Nothing in my mail yet. Do they even send notices before they stop benefits? I thought they had to give you warning first?

This exact thing happened to me last year - they released the diaper benefit but held the main payment because they needed additional income verification. The STUPIDEST part is they didn't tell me until I finally got through to my worker! If you started a new job, they might have flagged your case for income verification before releasing the payment. When did you report the new job?

•I reported it on the 10th when I got my first paycheck. But it's only 15 hours a week at minimum wage, nowhere near the IRT. They told me just to report it on my next SAR7. Now I'm stressed they're going to cut me off completely!

Don't panic yet. This happens sometimes with CalWORKs payments - they can be delayed for various administrative reasons. Since you reported a job change, your case might be under review, but that doesn't mean your benefits will be discontinued. Here are a few things to check: 1. Look at your last few months of payment dates - sometimes the exact deposit day varies by 1-2 days 2. Check if you're near your Income Reporting Threshold (IRT) with the new job 3. Verify if you missed submitting any verification documents they might have requested 4. Double-check your EBT card is still active You mentioned the diaper assistance came through, which means your case is still active. That's a good sign! It could be a system delay or processing issue with the main payment.

•Thank you for this! My payments usually hit on the 1st like clockwork, so this is unusual. My IRT is $2,800 and I'm only making about $750 a month at the new job, so I shouldn't be anywhere near it. I checked BenefitsCal again and don't see any notices or requests for documents. My EBT card is working fine too - I used it for CalFresh yesterday.

The exact same thing just happened to my sister! She got the diaper money but not her cash aid. Turns out the county is doing some kind of system update that delayed some payments. Her worker told her the payment should show up within 3 business days. Maybe call your local office directly instead of the main customer service line?

I had this happen in January. The system flagged my case because I had a new part-time job, even though I reported it on time and was nowhere near my IRT. I spent THREE DAYS trying to get through to someone at the county office but kept getting disconnected or waiting for hours. Finally I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to a real person in like 20 minutes. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE The worker told me my payment was on administrative hold for review but she cleared it right away once I explained. The money showed up the next day. Might be worth trying if you can't get through the regular line.

•Thank you! I'll check out that service if I can't get through today. Did you have to provide any additional verification of your job or did they just release the payment?

•They already had my paystub info since I'd reported it properly, so the worker just needed to manually review and approve it. She said sometimes the system automatically flags cases with income changes even when they're below the IRT. The frustrating part was just getting someone on the phone!

Did you do your semi-annual report recently? When I started my job last year, they delayed my payment the month after I submitted my SAR7 because they were "processing" the new income information. But they NEVER sent me any notice about it! I had to go into the office in person to get it sorted out. The worker said something about the system automatically putting a hold on payments when new income is entered until someone reviews it, even if it's clearly under the IRT. So frustrating!

•No, my next SAR7 isn't due until June. I did verbally report the job to my worker and she said just to include it on my next report since it's under the IRT. That's why I'm confused about why the payment would be delayed.

This is a fairly common issue when there's a change in income reported. Here's what's likely happening: Even though you're well below your Income Reporting Threshold, any new income source triggers an automatic review in most county systems. The diaper assistance came through because it's on a separate approval track. The good news is that this doesn't mean your benefits are being discontinued - it's just a verification delay. Since you've already reported the job properly, your payment should be released once the review is completed. For your immediate concern about rent: if you can't get this resolved quickly, ask your worker about Emergency Housing Assistance through CalWORKs. They can sometimes provide emergency payments when regular benefits are delayed due to administrative issues. To resolve this fastest, try calling your specific caseworker directly rather than the general line, or use the BenefitsCal message system to specifically ask about the payment delay.

•Thank you so much for this detailed explanation. I didn't know about the Emergency Housing Assistance option - that's really helpful. My worker never answers her direct line but I'll try sending a message through BenefitsCal right now. This makes me feel a lot better knowing it's probably just a review and not a discontinuance.

The WORST part about CalWORKs is how they never tell you ANYTHING. Like they expect us to be mind readers?! I swear they deliberately make it hard to contact them so they can save money when people give up trying. Did your job put you over the income limit? Because that could explain it, but they're still supposed to TELL YOU with a Notice of Action!!!

•Definitely not over the income limit - I only make about $750/month at this job and my IRT is $2,800. I agree about the communication though - it's so frustrating not knowing what's happening with money you depend on!

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone! Used that Claimyr service someone mentioned and got connected to a real person in about 15 minutes. The worker confirmed my payment was on hold for an income review but said there was no reason for the delay since everything was properly reported. She manually released the payment and said it should be in my account within 48 hours. She also noted in my file that I'm well below my IRT so this shouldn't happen again. Thank you all for your help and suggestions!

•Glad to hear you got it resolved! This happens more often than it should with income changes. One tip for the future: whenever you report new income, ask your worker to note in your file that it's below the IRT and no payment hold is needed. Sometimes that prevents the automatic system flags. Good luck with the new job!

•SEE? That's exactly what happened to me! The system automatically puts payments on hold even when you do everything right. At least your worker was helpful - mine gave me attitude like I did something wrong. So infuriating!
