CalWORKs payment not posted yet today - is this normal?

My CalWORKs Cash Aid benefit is supposed to hit my card on the 1st every month, but it's 12:57pm and still nothing today. I checked my BenefitsCal account and it says my case is active but the payment isn't showing as issued yet. Do they sometimes delay payments? I've been on Cash Aid for 8 months and it's always been there first thing in the morning. Really starting to panic because my rent is due tomorrow and my landlord is super strict about late payments. Has anyone else had their payment come late in the day before?

Thanks! That makes me feel a little better. I'll try to be patient. Just hoping it comes through today since my rent is due tomorrow morning.

This could be happening for a few different reasons. First, if today falls on a weekend or holiday, payments can be delayed until the next business day. Second, if you recently submitted your SAR7 or recertification, and there was any issue with processing it, that could cause a delay. Third, sometimes the system just has technical delays, especially at the beginning of the month when most payments go out. If your payment doesn't post by the end of the day, I recommend calling your county office first thing tomorrow morning. Be prepared with your case number and verify all your information is up to date in BenefitsCal.

I did submit my SAR7 two weeks ago, and haven't heard anything back, so maybe that's it? I thought they would contact me if there was a problem though. Do they usually notify you if there's an issue with your SAR7?

They're supposed to notify you if there's an issue with your SAR7, but sometimes those notices get delayed in the mail or they might have tried calling a phone number that's not current. Check your BenefitsCal account for any new notices or tasks. If your payment doesn't post by end of day, definitely call tomorrow morning to find out what's happening with your case.

Same issue happened to me last month! I almost had a panic attack waiting for my payment. Turns out there was a processing delay because the 1st was right after a weekend. The money finally showed up at 5:30pm when I had given up hope. If your BenefitsCal account shows your case as active, the payment will probably show up eventually today. If it doesn't post by tomorrow morning though, I highly recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a live person at your county office. Regular phone lines had me on hold for 3+ hours last time I had a payment issue, but with Claimyr I got through in about 15 minutes. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE. Totally worth it when you're in a panic about missing benefits!

Thanks for the tip! I've never heard of Claimyr before. I'll definitely check that out if my payment doesn't come through by tomorrow. The county phone lines are always impossible to get through on.

This happens fairly regularly. The official policy is that benefits are available on the 1st, but the actual posting time can vary throughout the day. There's no guaranteed time - it could be midnight, morning, afternoon, or evening. If your case shows as active in BenefitsCal, that's a good sign. One thing to double-check is whether you hit your Income Reporting Threshold (IRT) recently. If you earned more than your IRT amount and didn't report it within 10 days, that could cause a delay or hold on your benefits until it's resolved. Also, did you receive your Cash Aid for the previous months without any issues? If this is the first delay, it's likely just a timing issue. If your payment doesn't post by tomorrow morning, then you should definitely contact your county office.

I used to work for the county and this is correct. The system processes thousands of payments on the 1st of each month, and they don't all go through at the same time. As long as your case is active and you haven't had any income changes or other reportable changes that you didn't report, your payment should come through eventually today.

THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE US STRESS OUT AND BEG!!! This is the third time in 6 months my payment was late for NO REASON! They expect us to pay our bills on time but can't even issue our benefits when they're supposed to. Then they make it IMPOSSIBLE to reach anyone by phone who can actually help. The whole system is built to frustrate people so much that they give up. It's disgusting how they treat people who are just trying to take care of their families!!!

I know it's frustrating. I've been trying to call all day and keep getting the "all representatives are busy" message before it hangs up on me. I just checked again at 3:15pm and still no payment. Really starting to worry now.

YES!! It finally showed up at 4:30pm! What a relief. Thanks everyone for the support and advice. Next month I'll know not to panic if it's not there first thing in the morning.
