Cash Aid deposit delay past midnight - normal CalWORKs deposit time?
Anyone else checking their EBT card constantly? It's 12:44am and my Cash Aid still hasn't loaded on my card. I'm freaking out because rent is due tomorrow and my landlord doesn't give grace periods anymore. My benefits usually post right at midnight or maybe 12:15 latest, but it's going on 1am and nothing! 🥹 Is this happening to anyone else tonight? Or does yours normally load later? I'm worried something went wrong with my SAR7 even though my worker said everything was fine when I called last week.

Mine didn't post till 6am this morning! Don't panic yet. CalWORKs deposits have been running late the last 2-3 months because they're updating their payment system. Your benefits will most likely show up by morning. If not, you can call your worker after 8am. The deposit schedule depends on your case number and sometimes the bank processing time too.

•Omg thank you for telling me! I was about to have a complete meltdown. I'll try to get some sleep and check again in the morning. I wish they would've warned us about system updates 😩

•This system is SO unpredictable! Makes me wonder if they do this on purpose to stress us out. My worker SWORE to me that payments always process exactly at midnight, which is obviously not true. Last month mine came at 11pm the night BEFORE it was supposed to! No rhyme or reason to any of it.

The deposit times really depend on your case number group and which county you're in. San Bernardino County typically loads between midnight and 2am, but Los Angeles County can take until 6-8am. Some counties batch their deposits in groups based on the last digit of your case number. If you don't see your Cash Aid by noon tomorrow, you should definitely contact your county office. Make sure you have your case number and the date of your last approved SAR7 ready when you call. Also check that you didn't hit your Income Reporting Threshold (IRT) without reporting it, as that could delay your deposit.

•Thank you! I'm in LA County so maybe that explains it. My last digit is 7 - do you know if that's in an early or late batch? And no, I definitely didn't hit my IRT, I've actually been making less hours at work lately.

If u still don't have ur $ by morning try using Claimyr to get through to ur worker fast. I was in the same spot last month & spent 3 hrs on hold before getting hung up on. Used claimyr.com and got to a live person in like 10 min. They have this video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE. Not cheap but worth it when ur panicking about rent money!

•Does this actually work?? The CalWORKs phone system is literally THE WORST. I got disconnected 4 times last week trying to ask about my WTW assignment.

•Yeah it actually does! Saved me from getting evicted when my landlord was threatening me. They basically call for you and when they get a real person they connect you. Wayyyy better than hitting redial for hours.

Same issue here!!! I waited until 3:30am last night and finally fell asleep without seeing my deposit. Woke up at 7am and it was there. I totally understand your panic - every month I'm terrified they'll just randomly cut us off without explanation. The whole system is designed to keep us stressed and anxious. Did your benefit end up posting?

•YES! It finally posted around 5am! Such a relief but jeez, they need to be more consistent. I barely slept.

my worker told me the deposit times changed after they switched to the new benefitscal system. my neighbor on calworks gets hers at diff time than me even tho we both submit our sar7 same day every month. cash aid is so weird sometimes lol

One more thing to keep in mind - if the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday (which happens next month), they usually deposit early. So next month you might get it on the Friday before. Mark your calendar so you're not surprised or worried if you see it early!

For future reference, here are the typical deposit timeframes based on my experience working with CalWORKs recipients: 1. Regular monthly benefits: Usually between midnight and 6am on the 1st 2. Supplemental payments: Can arrive any time during business hours 3. Retroactive benefits: Often arrive mid-month rather than on the 1st 4. Emergency assistance: Should be same-day in most counties And remember that if you ever have a truly urgent situation and can't reach your worker, you can request an expedited hearing by calling the state office directly. They can sometimes intervene in emergency cases when benefits are delayed but you have current eligibility.

•Is that actually true about expedited hearings? I've been on CalWORKs for 3 years and NOBODY has ever told me this before! My worker made it sound like I just have to wait no matter what, even when they messed up my address and I didn't get benefits for TWO MONTHS last year.

•Yes, it's absolutely true! Ask for an "expedited fair hearing" specifically. While a regular hearing can take weeks, expedited hearings must be scheduled within 5 working days. Not every situation qualifies, but benefit delays causing imminent homelessness or utility shutoffs usually do. The state hearing office number is on the back of any CalWORKs notice you've received.

This happened to me last month too! I was literally sitting by my phone refreshing the EBT app every 5 minutes until like 4am. Mine finally showed up around 6:30am but I was a wreck all night thinking something went wrong with my case. The uncertainty is honestly the worst part - like why can't they just give us a consistent time window so we know what to expect? I ended up having to ask my sister for a small loan to cover groceries that day because I was too anxious to wait. Really hope they figure out these system issues soon because this stress is not good for anyone's mental health!

•I totally feel you on the mental health aspect! The constant uncertainty about when benefits will post creates so much unnecessary stress. It's like we're already dealing with enough financial anxiety, and then they make the one thing we're counting on completely unpredictable. I've started keeping a little emergency fund from my benefits each month (even just $20-30) specifically for situations like this where I need groceries or gas but the deposit is late. It's not much but it helps me sleep better knowing I have something to fall back on while waiting for the system to work properly.

Ugh, I totally get the panic! Mine was delayed until almost 8am yesterday and I was checking my card every 10 minutes all night. It's so frustrating that they don't give us any heads up about these system delays. I called the EBT customer service line around 3am (they're 24/7) and they told me there were "processing delays" but couldn't give me any specifics about when to expect it. The waiting game is honestly torture when you've got bills due! Really glad yours finally came through though - it's such a relief when you see that balance finally update. Hopefully they get their act together with these payment systems soon because this monthly stress is exhausting!

•Oh wow, I didn't know the EBT customer service was 24/7! That's actually really helpful to know for future late-night panic sessions. I wish they would at least send out a text or email warning when there are going to be system delays - it would save us all so much stress and sleepless nights. Even just a simple "deposits may be delayed 2-6 hours due to maintenance" would make such a difference. Thanks for sharing that tip about calling them directly!

This exact same thing happened to me two months ago! I was up until 3am refreshing my EBT app and getting more stressed by the minute. Turns out my county (Orange County) was doing some kind of system maintenance that they never told anyone about. My benefits finally posted at like 7:30am the next morning. Now I try to remind myself that as long as my case is active and my paperwork is current, the money WILL show up eventually - even if it's hours late. The system is just super unreliable right now. I started keeping a little notebook tracking when my deposits actually hit each month so I can see the pattern. Might help you feel more in control of the situation! Hope yours came through by now and you were able to get some rest.

•That's such a smart idea to keep a notebook tracking the deposit times! I'm definitely going to start doing that because you're right - having some kind of pattern to reference would help me feel way less anxious about it. It's crazy that Orange County didn't warn anyone about system maintenance either. Like, they have our phone numbers and addresses - how hard would it be to send a heads up? I'm new to CalWORKs (just started 3 months ago) and still learning all these little tricks to manage the stress. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here because it makes me feel so much less alone in dealing with this stuff!

I've been on CalWORKs for about 8 months now and the deposit timing is seriously all over the place! Mine usually comes between 2-4am, but last month it didn't show up until almost 10am and I was convinced they'd cut me off. The worst part is when you're new to the system like I was - nobody really explains that these delays are "normal" (if you can call such an unreliable system normal). I've learned to screenshot my EBT balance the day before benefits are supposed to post, just so I have proof of what I started with in case I need to call and report an issue. Also found out that if you have direct deposit set up for any other programs, those might hit at different times even though it's the same card. The whole thing is honestly designed to keep us stressed out! Really glad your benefits finally posted though - that relief when you see the balance update is unmatched! 💙

•That screenshot tip is brilliant! I wish someone had told me that when I first started - would have saved me so much panic when I couldn't remember if my balance was right or not. You're so right about the system being designed to stress us out. It feels intentional sometimes, like they want us to feel uncertain and grateful just for getting what we're entitled to. I'm definitely going to start taking those screenshots from now on. It's crazy how we have to become experts at navigating all these little workarounds just to manage basic survival needs! Thanks for sharing your experience - this community has been such a lifesaver for learning all the things they don't tell you upfront. 💙

I'm pretty new to CalWORKs (just got approved last month) and reading all these experiences is both reassuring and terrifying! My first deposit came exactly at midnight, so I was expecting the same this month, but it's been super inconsistent since then. Last week I called my worker about something else and she mentioned that the state is rolling out some new payment processing system in phases, which might explain why everyone's timing is so different. She said it could take several more months before everything stabilizes. In the meantime, I've started setting aside a tiny emergency fund from other sources when I can - even $10-15 helps with the anxiety of not knowing exactly when benefits will hit. It's frustrating that we have to plan around their technical issues, but at least knowing it's a widespread problem and not something wrong with our individual cases helps a little bit!
