CalWORKs payment not showing as pending deposit for tomorrow - anyone else?
I checked my BenefitsCal account and my bank account this morning and there's no sign of my Cash Aid coming through for tomorrow's payment date. Usually by now I can see a pending deposit, but there's nothing showing up at all. My SAR7 was submitted on time last month and I got the confirmation notice that everything was processed correctly. This is making me super anxious because I've got rent due on the 5th and literally no backup money. Is anyone else having this issue with their February payment not showing as pending? The EBT card balance hasn't updated either. I'm wondering if there's some system-wide problem or if it's just my account.

That's somewhat reassuring it's not just me. Have you tried calling your worker? I tried the main line this morning but got the 'high call volume' message and it hung up on me after 20 minutes.

This happens sometimes when there are banking holidays or system updates. When was your normal deposit date? If it was supposed to be the 1st, the system sometimes delays processing by a day when the month changes. I'd wait until tomorrow morning before panicking, as the pending deposit might show up overnight. However, if you don't see anything by tomorrow afternoon, I'd definitely contact your caseworker to make sure there wasn't an issue with your case. They sometimes implement payment schedule changes without properly notifying recipients.

My normal deposit date is the 1st, and I've never had this happen before even during month changes. Do you think it could have anything to do with the new income reporting threshold changes? I got a letter about IRT changes last month but didn't think it would affect payment timing.

The IRT change shouldn't affect your payment timing, just the threshold at which you need to report income changes. That said, there have been some system updates related to the new IRT implementation that could be causing delays. Since your normal deposit is the 1st and that's tomorrow, I'd give it until mid-day tomorrow before worrying too much.

I haven't gotten any mail from them recently except for the IRT change notice that everyone got. I try to check my mail every day but our mail delivery is really inconsistent in my building. I'll double check when I get home today.

I've been through this EXACT situation before. The county runs system maintenance at the end of each month and sometimes it causes delays in showing pending deposits. BUT what most people don't know is that even if it doesn't show pending, the deposit usually still hits on time!HOWEVER, if you haven't received confirmation that your SAR7 was fully processed (not just received), that could be the issue. When was the last time you checked BenefitsCal to see if there were any alerts or pending verifications? Sometimes they request additional info and don't call to tell you.

Thank you for this info! I did get a notice that my SAR7 was processed completely, and I have no alerts in my BenefitsCal account. I just checked again and there's nothing under

If you need to reach someone at CalWORKs tomorrow and can't get through on the main line, try using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was dealing with a similar payment issue last month and was going CRAZY trying to get through to my worker. Claimyr got me connected in about 15 minutes when I had been trying for 2 days on my own. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwEJust having someone confirm what was going on with my account saved me so much stress, even though I still had to wait for the payment to process.

Thank you for this suggestion! If my payment doesn't show up tomorrow I'll definitely check this out. Did they explain what was happening with your payment when you finally got through?

Yes! Turns out there was a flag on my account because I had reported a small increase in income (just $80 from some gig work), and even though it was under my IRT, the system automatically puts a hold until someone reviews it. The worker removed the flag while I was on the phone and my payment processed the next day.

I've definitely learned my lesson about documentation. I have the confirmation for my SAR7 but I didn't take screenshots of my BenefitsCal dashboard showing no pending actions. I'll start doing that from now on.

From my experience working with benefit recipients, this is most likely a processing delay rather than a problem with your eligibility. The payment batches for the 1st of the month are usually processed on the last business day of the previous month, and sometimes banking systems have delays in showing pending deposits. If you don't receive your payment by the end of the day on the 1st, here's what you should do:1. Check BenefitsCal for any notices or alerts2. Call your caseworker directly (not the main line)3. Ask specifically if there are any holds on your case4. If there's no resolution, request to speak with a supervisorIn the meantime, if you're worried about rent, you can contact your county office about emergency assistance options. Many counties have special funds for preventing homelessness when benefits are delayed.

Thank you for this detailed advice. I'm going to try calling my worker directly tomorrow if the payment doesn't arrive. Do you know if emergency assistance is available even if the delay is just a few days? My landlord is pretty strict about the 5-day grace period for rent.

Emergency assistance policies vary by county, but many do have short-term help even for brief delays, especially when it's a system issue rather than recipient error. When you call, specifically mention that you're at risk of losing your housing if the payment doesn't process in time. In some counties, they can issue an emergency EFT payment or even a same-day paper check that you pick up at the office.
