Won ESD appeal but no payment yet - how long should I wait?
Finally won my appeal after being initially denied unemployment benefits! Got the determination letter from OAH yesterday saying ESD's decision is REVERSED and I qualify for benefits. What I'm confused about now is when I'll actually see the money. It's been 3 days since I got the letter, and my account still shows $0 in payments. Has anyone gone through an appeal win before? How long did it take for ESD to actually process your backpay after winning? I've got about $7,800 in benefits they owe me from the past 4 months and really need this money ASAP for rent and car payment.

•10 days? Ugh, I was hoping it would be faster. Did you have to call them or did it just magically appear one day?

Congratulations on winning your appeal! When the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) reverses an ESD decision, there's still a processing period. ESD has to implement the judge's decision, which involves recalculating your benefits and processing the backpay. The timeline varies but typically takes 7-14 business days from when ESD receives the official reversal notification from OAH. Just to clarify - did you receive the determination directly from OAH or from ESD?

•Thanks! I got the formal decision notice from OAH in the mail. It has the judge's signature and everything, and clearly states the original denial is reversed. I haven't received anything directly from ESD yet. Should I have gotten something from them too?

I went through this exact situation in January 2025. There's actually a second step after OAH makes their decision. The OAH sends their decision to ESD, and then ESD has to formally implement it by issuing their own Redetermination Notice. That's when the clock actually starts for processing payment. My timeline was: • Day 1: Received OAH reversal decision • Day 8: Received ESD Redetermination Notice • Day 15: Benefits appeared in my account I'd recommend waiting about a week for the ESD Redetermination, and if you don't see it, that's when you should start trying to contact them.

•This is EXACTLY why the system is broken!!!! Why do they need ANOTHER step after a JUDGE already decided?? Just more ways for them to delay paying people what they're owed. It's disgusting how they treat claimants.

You might want to try calling ESD directly to make sure they have received the judge's decision from OAH. Sometimes there can be delays in communication between departments. When I won my appeal last year, I had to call several times before finding someone who could help speed things along. The regular ESD phone lines are almost impossible to get through on though.

•I was stuck in the same situation back in November and tried calling for WEEKS without getting through. I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 - totally saved my sanity after weeks of busy signals. The agent was able to confirm they had my appeal decision and gave me an estimate of when my payment would process.

you should also check ur eServices account to see if theres any new msgs or notices. sometimes they post stuff there b4 sending mail. also make sure ur still filing ur weekly claims even while waiting or they might not pay u for those weeks

•Oh shoot, I didn't even think about needing to keep filing weekly claims! I stopped when I got denied initially. Does that mean I might not get paid for those weeks I didn't file???

This is a critical point - you absolutely need to continue filing weekly claims even during the appeal process. However, since you've already won your appeal, you may be able to backfile for those weeks. You'll need to contact ESD directly and explain your situation. They can sometimes make exceptions for missed weekly claims if you had good cause (like believing you weren't eligible due to a denial that was later reversed). I'd recommend sending a secure message through your eServices portal explaining that you stopped filing because of the initial denial, and now need guidance on how to claim those weeks since your appeal was successful.

•Thank you so much for this info! I just sent a message through eServices explaining the situation. Fingers crossed they'll let me backfile. What a stressful process this has been...

•That's really reassuring, thanks. I'm just so anxious because my savings are basically gone at this point.

Just checking in - any updates on your situation? Has ESD processed your payment yet or sent you the Redetermination Notice?

•Yes! Finally got some good news! The ESD Redetermination came yesterday, and they're allowing me to backfile for the missed weeks. The agent I spoke with (finally got through!) said I should see the full payment within 3-5 business days. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and advice through this process.
