Won ESD appeal 6 weeks ago but still no payments - what's the holdup?

I had my hearing with OAH back in January and received the decision letter on January 31st saying I won my appeal! The judge overturned ESD's denial and said I'm eligible for benefits. It's now mid-March and I haven't seen a single payment hit my account. The online system still shows my claim as 'paid' $0.00 for all weeks. I'm seriously getting desperate here - rent is due next week and I was counting on this backpay (over $4,800). Has anyone experienced this kind of delay after winning an appeal? Is there a special department I need to contact? I've tried the regular customer service line but can't get through.

congrats on winning ur appeal! that's a huge victory honestly. i had similar wait after my hearing last year... took almost 2 months after judge ruled in my favor before the $$ actually showed up. esd is soooo slow updating their system after appeals

2 months?? That's insane. Did you have to keep calling them or did it just magically appear one day?

Unfortunately this is pretty common. After an appeal decision, ESD has to manually update your claim status in their system. The victory letter from OAH doesn't automatically trigger payments. My cousin went through this exact situation last fall - won her appeal but had to wait 7-8 weeks for actual payment. In her case, calling the technical services unit at 833-572-8400 (choose the option for payment issues) eventually helped. Be prepared to explain you've already won your appeal and are just waiting for implementation. Maybe mention the appeal docket number if you have it. Good luck and hang in there!

Thank you for the advice! I've been calling the main number like a fool. I'll try the technical services unit tomorrow morning. Really appreciate it!

I'm dealing with this right now too!! Won my appeal Feb 18th and still NOTHING. Called ESD 47 times today (counted on my phone) and either get busy signal or it hangs up after the automated message. This is RIDICULOUS. I'm about to lose my car because of their incompetence. Does anyone know if I can email someone directly? The general inbox never responds.

The exact same thing happened to me! I won my appeal about 3 months ago and I had to wait 9 weeks for payment. It's completely normal although very frustrating. They told me that the appeals department and payment department don't communicate well with each other. Just keep filing your weekly claims while you wait.

After you win an appeal, there's a mandatory review period where ESD has to implement the judge's decision. This can take 30-45 business days according to their internal procedures. I know it's frustrating, but it's built into their process. That said, you absolutely should be proactive - don't just wait. Make sure you: 1. Continue filing your weekly claims even while waiting 2. Check that your payment method is correctly set up in eServices 3. Verify your identity documents are all current in the system The fastest way to get this resolved is talking directly with an ESD agent who can check if there's a specific hold-up in your case. Sometimes it's just waiting in a queue, other times there's an additional verification they need.

I had no idea about the mandatory review period! That explains a lot. I've been filing my claims religiously and my payment info is correct. I guess I just need to get through to an actual person now.

I had luck using Claimyr to get through to ESD when I was in a similar situation last month. After trying for two weeks to reach someone, I used their service and got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes. The agent was able to check exactly what was holding up my payments after my appeal and push it through the system. Worth checking out their video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 - saved me weeks of additional waiting. Their website is claimyr.com

Thank you! I've never heard of this service before. I'm willing to try anything at this point if it gets me through to a real person who can help.

This is actually a SPECIFIC ISSUE with appeals won in January 2025. There was a system upgrade on the back end of ESD's benefits system that's causing delays in appeal implementation. I know because I'm dealing with 4 different clients in the exact same situation. You need to specifically request an "Appeal Implementation Review" when you speak with an agent. This flags your account for their IT department. Don't just ask about the status - use those exact words. And don't panic about your backpay - once they implement the judge's decision, you'll get ALL weeks you're eligible for, including interest if the delay exceeds 60 days. It's frustrating but your money is protected.

Oh wow, this is incredibly helpful information! I'll definitely use those exact words when I call. Thank you so much for the insider knowledge!

Is this for real? I haven't heard anything about a system upgrade causing delays. Where did you get this info? (Hoping it's true and might help my situation too

my sister works at worksource and she says this happens ALL THE TIME with appeals. she said sometimes u need to contact ur state representative to speed things up. they can do an "legislative inquiry" that gets ESD moving way faster. google ur district and email ur rep explaining the situation!

This is actually good advice. Legislative inquiries do get prioritized in the system and assigned to specialized agents. I'd recommend trying the direct ESD contact methods first, but if you're approaching 60+ days with no resolution, a legislative inquiry can be very effective.

Just checking in - have you had any luck getting this resolved? Did any of the suggestions here work for you?

Update: I finally got through to someone at ESD yesterday! Turns out there was a flag on my account requiring manual review after the appeal victory. The agent said she removed the flag and expedited my payment processing. She said I should see the money within 3 business days. I'll update again once it arrives. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!
