Won ESD appeal hearing but still no payment - how long after judge reversal?

So I finally had my appeal hearing last week with the OAH judge, and they reversed the ESD's denial of my benefits (thank goodness)! The judge said I was eligible from the beginning and shouldn't have been disqualified. But now I'm wondering how long it typically takes for ESD to actually process this and start sending payments? It's been 5 days since the judge's decision and my account still shows 'disqualified' when I log in. I've already waited almost 3 months fighting this denial and my savings are completely wiped out. Has anyone else gone through the appeal process recently? How long did it take after winning for you to actually see money? And does anyone know a way to actually reach a human being at ESD? I've tried calling the regular number about 30 times this week, but either get disconnected or stuck on hold forever.

congrats on winning ur appeal! i went thru this in january and it took about 17 days after the judges decision for my status to change from disqualified to paid. dont panic yet, it just takes time for them to process everything and make the changes on their end

17 days?? That's so frustrating. Did your status change suddenly or was there any kind of notification before they paid you? I'm checking my account like 5 times a day.

The timeline can vary quite a bit based on ESD's current workload, but generally it takes 2-3 weeks after the judge's decision for payments to start. The official process is: 1) OAH transmits the decision to ESD, 2) ESD reviews the decision, 3) They update your claim status, 4) Then process retroactive payments. Each step has its own timeframe. What you want to look for is the status changing from 'disqualified' to 'paid' on your weekly claims. Once that happens, the payments are usually processed within 48 hours. Keep filing your weekly claims during this time - those will be paid retroactively once they implement the judge's decision.

Thank you for the detailed response! I'll keep filing my weekly claims. Is there any way to speed up the process or at least get confirmation they received the judge's decision? I'm so anxious about this falling through the cracks somehow.

I WON MY APPEAL TOO but it took FOREVER to get paid after! The system is broken!! Nobody tells you anything and you just have to wait and pray. I called 47 times in one week and never got through!!! Such a joke.

How long is "forever"? Was it like a month or longer? OP probably wants actual timeframes, not just venting (though I get the frustration).

@user8 it was 26 days for me. AND they screwed up my back pay calculation so I had to fight that for another 2 weeks! Make sure you check all your payments when they finally come through!

Try uploading a message through your eServices account. Go to your dashboard, click on "Send a message" and specifically reference your appeal case number and the date of the judge's decision. Sometimes this can flag your case for review. In my experience, this works better than calling since there's a record of your inquiry. As for timeline, the standard is 2-3 weeks, but I've seen it take up to 30 days during busy periods (which seems to be all the time now). The important thing is to keep filing your weekly claims during this limbo period so you don't miss out on any benefits once they process the decision.

That's a good tip about sending a message through eServices. I'll try that today. At least then I'll have proof I followed up if something goes wrong.

If you're struggling to get through to ESD (and let's be honest, who isn't?), I'd recommend trying Claimyr. It's a service that helps you connect with an ESD agent without having to constantly redial. I was in a similar situation after winning my appeal and needed to talk to someone. After trying for days, I used Claimyr and got through to an actual human at ESD in about 30 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent I spoke with was able to confirm they had received my appeal decision and gave me an estimate of when I could expect payment. Brought my anxiety levels way down just knowing what was happening with my claim.

Has anyone else tried this Claimyr thing? Seems to good to be true that they can get you through when the lines are always busy...

I used it last month when my identity verification was stuck. It actually worked pretty well, got me to a rep in about 40 minutes when I had been trying for days on my own. They just keep redialing for you basically so you don't have to keep calling yourself over and over.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I'm going to try sending a message through eServices first, and if I don't hear anything back in a week, I might try Claimyr just to get some peace of mind. It's so stressful not knowing if/when the money will come through, especially after fighting so hard to win the appeal. I'll update this thread once something changes with my claim in case it helps someone else!

My sister had a similar situation in February. Won her appeal but then waited and waited... turned out there was some flag on her account that needed additional review. Never would have known if she hadn't finally gotten through to someone. Just something to keep in mind - sometimes it's not automatic even after a judge rules in your favor. Oh and she did eventually get all her back pay, took about 5 weeks total.

That's exactly what I'm worried about - some random flag or issue that nobody tells me about! Did she do anything special to get through to someone?

she called right when they opened at 8am and still waited on hold for like 2 hours lol. the early morning seems slightly better than calling later in the day. good luck!

One more thing to note - be sure to check your correspondence inbox in eServices regularly. Sometimes they'll send notices asking for additional information even after the appeal is decided. Missing these can cause further delays. Also, if it's been more than 3 weeks since the judge's decision, you can contact your state representative's office. They often have direct channels to ESD and can help expedite things.

Great advice, thank you! I'll check my inbox daily and will definitely contact my rep if it goes beyond 3 weeks. Fingers crossed it doesn't come to that.
