How to get through Washington ESD unemployment phone line - need help reaching someone
I've been trying to reach Washington ESD for over 2 weeks about my claim that's been stuck in adjudication. Every time I call the main number I either get a busy signal or sit on hold for hours only to get disconnected. I've tried calling right at 8am when they open, during lunch, even late afternoon - nothing works. My weekly claims are pending and I'm starting to panic about rent next month. Has anyone found a way to actually get through to a real person at Washington ESD? There has to be some trick or better time to call that I'm missing.

I feel your pain - the Washington ESD phone system is absolutely broken. I spent 3 months trying to reach them about my disqualification last year. The hold times are insane and they just hang up on you after 4-5 hours.

•3 months?? That's terrifying. Did you ever get through or did you have to find another way to resolve it?

•Eventually got through but it took forever. The agent fixed my issue in 5 minutes after I'd been waiting months. So frustrating.

Try calling the Spanish language line even if you speak English - sometimes it has shorter wait times. The agents are bilingual and can help with English claims too.

•Really? I never thought of that. Do you have the Spanish line number?

Zara Rashid
•It's the same main number but when you get to the language selection, choose Spanish. Worth a shot!

•This actually worked for me once! Got through in 45 minutes instead of never getting through on the English line.

Have you tried using Claimyr? I discovered it after spending weeks trying to get through to Washington ESD myself. It's a service that calls for you and gets you connected to an actual agent. Saved my sanity honestly. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Never heard of this - is it legit? How does it work exactly?

Nia Jackson
•Yeah it's totally legitimate. You go to claimyr.com and they basically do all the calling and waiting for you. When they get an agent on the line, they conference you in. Way better than sitting on hold for hours yourself.

•How much does something like that cost though? I'm already broke from waiting for my unemployment.

•It's worth checking out their site for current info. For me it was totally worth it to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD instead of never getting through.

The trick is to call exactly at 7:59am and keep hitting redial until you get in the queue. Don't call at 8:00 or later - you're already too late by then.

•I tried this but still couldn't get through. Maybe I need to try even earlier?

•Yeah, set multiple alarms and have your phone ready to dial. It's ridiculous but that's the only way I've gotten through without waiting forever.

THIS SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY BROKEN! I've been trying for 6 weeks and haven't spoken to a single human being at Washington ESD. They owe me over $4000 in back pay and I can't even get someone to look at my account. It's like they don't want to help unemployed people.

•I completely understand your frustration. The whole system needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

•Exactly! How is this acceptable in 2025? Other states have figured out how to answer their phones.

You could also try reaching out to your state representative's office. Sometimes they can help escalate Washington ESD issues when people can't get through normal channels.

•That's a good idea. Do they actually help with unemployment stuff?

•Yeah, constituent services is part of what they do. Worth a shot if you're really stuck.

Another option is to physically go to a WorkSource office if there's one near you. They can sometimes help with basic Washington ESD issues or at least point you in the right direction.

•Good point - I forget those exist. Do you know if they can access the same systems as the phone agents?
0 coins
Sean Doyle
•They have some access but not everything. Better than nothing though, especially if your issue is straightforward.

I've had luck calling right after lunch around 1:30pm. Seems like fewer people are calling then and I've gotten through a couple times that way.

•Interesting timing - I'll try that tomorrow. Did you still have long hold times?

•Still had to wait but only about an hour instead of forever. Much more manageable.

Same boat here - my adjudication has been pending for a month now. I've pretty much given up on calling and just hoping it resolves itself somehow.

•Don't give up! That's what I'm afraid of doing but I know I need to keep trying.

Nia Jackson
•Definitely don't give up. That's exactly why I ended up using Claimyr - I was at that same point of frustration.

Have you tried the online messaging system through your Washington ESD account? Sometimes they respond faster to messages than phone calls.

StarStrider
•I sent a message 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything back yet. Maybe I should try again?

Mateo Hernandez
•Yeah, keep sending messages. Sometimes you get lucky and someone responds within a few days.

Pro tip: if you do get through, have ALL your information ready - claim number, SSN, dates, everything. Don't waste time looking stuff up while you're on the call.

•Good advice. I have a folder with all my unemployment paperwork ready to go.

•Smart! Also write down the agent's name and reference number for your call in case you need to follow up.

The whole Washington ESD phone system is designed to discourage people from calling. They probably figure if they make it hard enough, people will just give up on their claims.

Luca Romano
•That's such a cynical but probably accurate take on the situation.

Aisha Khan
•It's the only explanation that makes sense. No organization accidentally has a phone system this bad.

I heard they're supposed to be upgrading their phone system sometime this year but who knows when that'll actually happen.

StarStrider
•They've been saying that for years though. I'm not holding my breath.

Zara Rashid
•True, but we can hope. In the meantime we're all stuck with this broken system.

Just wanted to follow up on the Claimyr thing - I used them again last week for a different issue and got connected to Washington ESD in about 20 minutes. So much better than the endless hold times.

•That's really tempting. I'm getting desperate enough to try anything at this point.

•I might look into this too. Getting really tired of wasting entire days trying to call.

Whatever you do, don't stop filing your weekly claims while you're trying to reach them. Even if they're pending, you need to keep filing to maintain your claim.
0 coins
StarStrider
•Yes, I'm definitely keeping up with my weekly filings. Don't want to lose my place in line or whatever.
0 coins
Sean Doyle
•Exactly right. That would just create more problems you'd need to call about.

This thread is making me feel better about not being the only one struggling with Washington ESD. Misery loves company I guess.

•There should be a support group for people trying to reach Washington ESD lol

Keep trying different times and methods. Eventually something will work. The key is persistence even though it's incredibly frustrating.

•Thanks for the encouragement. I'll keep trying and update this thread if I find something that works.

•Please do! We all need to share what works so we can help each other out.

Good luck everyone. Hopefully Washington ESD fixes their phone system soon but until then we're all just trying to survive this broken process.

•Keep us posted on what works! And seriously consider checking out claimyr.com if you get too frustrated with the regular calling.

•Hope you get through soon. This whole situation is just ridiculous.
