How to talk to someone at Washington ESD unemployment office - getting through by phone
I've been trying to reach someone at the Washington ESD unemployment office for over a week now and I'm going crazy. Every time I call the main number I either get a busy signal or sit on hold for 2+ hours before getting disconnected. I have questions about my weekly claim that I can't figure out online and really need to speak with an actual person. Has anyone found a way to actually get through to someone at Washington ESD? What's the best time to call or is there a different number that works better?

The phone system is absolutely terrible right now. I usually try calling right when they open at 8am or during lunch hours when call volume might be lower. Sometimes I get through around 1-2pm but it's still hit or miss.

•I tried calling at 8am sharp yesterday and still couldn't get through. How long do you usually wait on hold?

•Usually about 45 minutes to an hour if I'm lucky. Some days I give up after 2 hours.

I've had success using the callback option when it's available, but that's not always offered. You can also try calling different regional offices directly instead of the main number.

•I didn't know about regional offices having their own numbers. Do you have any specific ones that work better?

•The callback option disappeared on me last week after I waited 3 hours in the virtual queue. So frustrating!

Honestly, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to Washington ESD agents. They basically call for you and get you connected to a real person. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked - I got through in about 20 minutes instead of wasting my whole day trying to call. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•That sounds too good to be true. How much does it cost and is it legit?

Madison Tipne
•It's legitimate - they don't ask for any personal info about your claim, just help you get connected. Worth checking out the demo video to see how it works.

•I'm always suspicious of third-party services but if it actually gets you through to Washington ESD...

THE PHONE SYSTEM IS BROKEN! I've been trying for THREE WEEKS to talk to someone about my adjudication. This is ridiculous - how are we supposed to get help when they make it impossible to reach them?

•I totally understand the frustration. Have you tried using the secure messaging system in your online account? Sometimes that gets a response faster than phone calls.

Malia Ponder
•Yes I tried that too! Got an automated response saying they'll get back to me in 5-7 business days. It's been 10 days now.

Try calling the UI customer service line at different times throughout the day. I've noticed Tuesday-Thursday mornings around 10am sometimes have shorter wait times.

•Good tip! I'll try that tomorrow morning and see if it makes a difference.

•I've heard similar advice about avoiding Mondays and Fridays when call volume is highest.

Same problem here. Been trying to reach them about my job search requirements and can't get through. The website isn't clear about my specific situation.

•What specifically about job search requirements? I might be able to help clarify if it's a common question.

•I'm on standby status but not sure if I still need to log job searches. The website is confusing about this.

•If you're on standby, you typically don't need to do job searches, but you should verify with Washington ESD since every situation is different.

I had good luck with that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Used it last month when I couldn't get through about my overpayment notice. They got me connected in under 30 minutes and I was able to get my questions answered.

•That's two people now who've had success with it. I'm starting to think it might be worth trying.

•Did you have to give them access to your Washington ESD account or anything?

Finley Garrett
•No, they don't need any of your personal info. They just help you get connected to the right department.

I work from home so I can keep trying to call throughout the day. Usually takes me 3-4 attempts but I eventually get through. The key is persistence.

•I wish I had that flexibility! I can only call during my lunch break and it's never enough time.

•That's the problem - if you can't dedicate hours to calling, you're out of luck with the regular phone system.

Sometimes I wonder if they make it hard on purpose to discourage people from calling. The system is definitely not user-friendly.

•That's exactly what I think! They don't want to deal with us so they make it impossible to reach them.

•I think it's more about being understaffed and overwhelmed, but the result is the same - we can't get help when we need it.

Has anyone tried going to a WorkSource office in person? I heard they might be able to help with some Washington ESD issues.

Miranda Singer
•WorkSource can help with job search stuff but I don't think they can access your actual UI claim information.

•Good to know, thanks. I'll stick to trying to call Washington ESD directly then.

I'm in the same boat - trying to talk to someone about my adjudication status. It's been pending for 3 weeks now and I'm getting worried about my benefits.

•Adjudication can take 4-6 weeks unfortunately. The waiting is the worst part but try to be patient.

•That's what I'm afraid of. I really need to know what's holding it up so I can provide any additional information they need.

The whole system is a mess. I've been unemployed for 2 months and still haven't talked to a real person at Washington ESD. How is this acceptable?

•This is exactly why I ended up using Claimyr. I was wasting too much time trying to get through on my own.

•I might have to look into that if I can't get through soon. This is getting ridiculous.

Try calling right after a major holiday when they reopen. Sometimes the call volume is lower because people don't realize they're back in the office.

Aliyah Debovski
•That's actually a smart strategy. I'll keep that in mind for next time.

I finally got through last week and the agent was super helpful. She explained my whole claim status and what I needed to do next. It's worth the wait if you can get connected.

•Called around 11am on a Wednesday and waited about an hour and a half. Not fun but better than some of my other attempts.

Another vote for Claimyr here. Used it two weeks ago when I couldn't get through about my weekly claim issue. Super easy and got me connected quickly.

The automated system is the worst. I can never get it to transfer me to the right department and end up having to start over.

•Try pressing 0 repeatedly during the automated prompts - sometimes it will connect you to a live person faster.

•I'll try that next time. Anything to skip those endless menu options!

I feel like I'm calling into the void. Left messages, sent secure messages, tried calling at different times - nothing works consistently.

•The system definitely needs to be improved. Too many people are struggling just to get basic information about their claims.

Update: I tried calling at 2pm today and actually got through after 45 minutes! Sometimes persistence pays off. The agent was able to answer all my questions about my claim status.

I'm dealing with the exact same frustration! Been trying to reach them about my claim for almost two weeks now. Based on all the advice here, I'm going to try calling Tuesday morning around 10am and also check out that Claimyr service that multiple people have mentioned. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get basic help with our unemployment claims. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and tips!

•Welcome to the struggle! I'm new here too and have been reading through all these comments - it's both frustrating and reassuring to know I'm not alone in this. The Tuesday 10am strategy sounds promising, and I'm also curious about that Claimyr thing since so many people seem to have had success with it. Let me know how it goes if you try either approach!

I've been dealing with this exact same issue for weeks now! Reading through all these comments is both frustrating and helpful - at least I know I'm not the only one struggling with Washington ESD's phone system. I'm definitely going to try some of the strategies mentioned here, like calling on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings around 10am, and I'm seriously considering that Claimyr service since so many people have had success with it. It's absolutely ridiculous that we have to resort to third-party services just to talk to someone about our own unemployment benefits. The system is clearly broken when people are waiting weeks just to get basic questions answered. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences and tips - this community is more helpful than Washington ESD's actual customer service!

•I'm in the exact same situation and it's so validating to read everyone's experiences here! I've been calling for over a week with no luck and was starting to think I was doing something wrong. The timing suggestions are really helpful - I hadn't thought about avoiding Mondays and Fridays when call volume is probably highest. I'm also intrigued by all the positive mentions of Claimyr, though like others I'm a bit cautious about third-party services. But if it actually works and doesn't require giving them personal claim info, it might be worth trying. This whole situation really highlights how inadequate the current system is for people who genuinely need help with their claims.
