How to reach Washington ESD unemployment office when phones are always busy?
I've been trying to reach someone at Washington ESD for over two weeks now and it's impossible! Every time I call the main number I either get a busy signal or sit on hold for hours before getting disconnected. I have questions about my weekly claim that got flagged and need to speak with someone urgently. Does anyone know the best times to call or have any tricks for actually getting through to a human? This is so frustrating.

I feel your pain! The phone system is absolutely terrible. I've had better luck calling right when they open at 8am but even then it's hit or miss.

•I tried that yesterday and still couldn't get through. Do you know if there's a specific number for claim issues?

•The main customer service line is all I know. Maybe try the callback option if it's available?

Have you tried using the secure messaging system on your Washington ESD account? Sometimes that's faster than calling, though they can take 3-5 business days to respond.

•I did send a message but it's been 6 days with no response. My issue is time sensitive.

•Yeah, their response times are really inconsistent. Phone is still your best bet for urgent issues.

I recently discovered this service called Claimyr that actually helps you get through to Washington ESD agents. They have some kind of system that handles the calling and waiting for you. Check out claimyr.com - there's even a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Saved me hours of frustration!

•Is this legit? Sounds too good to be true. How does it actually work?

NeonNova
•It's totally legitimate. They basically handle all the redialing and waiting in line for you, then connect you when an agent becomes available. Way better than sitting there hitting redial for hours.

•This might be exactly what I need. Going to check out that video demo right now.

The Washington ESD phone system is designed to discourage people from calling. It's absolutely ridiculous that in 2025 we still can't get basic customer service for something as important as unemployment benefits.

•Totally agree. The whole system needs an overhaul.

•At least they upgraded from the old system a few years ago. It used to be even worse if you can believe that.

For urgent issues like yours, you might also try visiting a WorkSource office in person. They can sometimes help with basic claim questions or at least get you connected to the right department.

•That's a good idea. Is there a way to make an appointment or is it walk-in only?

Fatima Al-Hashimi
•Most locations are walk-in but you can call ahead to check their current policies. Some have specific hours for unemployment assistance.

What specific issue are you having with your weekly claim? Sometimes people here can help figure out if it's something you can resolve online without needing to call.

•It says there's an issue with my work search activities even though I've been logging everything correctly. Really frustrating.

Fatima Al-Hashimi
•That usually means there's a formatting issue with how you entered the job contacts. Did you include all required fields like company name, contact method, and date?

Amara Chukwu
•I thought I did but maybe I missed something. I'll double check my entries.

I've been calling for three weeks about my adjudication status and can't get through either. This is affecting my ability to pay rent!

•Definitely try that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier. Adjudication issues are exactly the kind of thing you need to talk to an agent about, and they can help you get connected faster.

•At this point I'm willing to try anything. Thanks for the suggestion.

Pro tip: if you do get through, have all your information ready - claim number, SSN, dates of the issue, etc. Nothing worse than finally getting an agent and then having to put them on hold while you find your paperwork.

•Good point. I'll make sure to have everything organized before I try calling again.

•Also write down the agent's name and any reference numbers they give you. Helps if you need to call back.

The lunch hour (12-1pm) sometimes has shorter wait times because fewer people are calling then. Might be worth a shot.

•That's interesting. I never thought about timing it that way.

•Yeah, I've had luck calling around 12:30. Not guaranteed but better odds than peak times.

Make sure you're calling the right number too. The main customer service line is 800-318-6022. There are other numbers floating around online but that's the official one for most claim issues.

Amara Chukwu
•That's the number I've been using. Good to know I have the right one at least.

Dylan Campbell
•Wait, is that different from the number on the website? I want to make sure I'm calling the right place.

•That's the main number listed on the official Washington ESD website. Should be the same one you see there.

It's absolutely insane that we have to resort to third-party services just to contact our own state agency. What are we paying taxes for?

•I hear you, but honestly if it gets me connected to resolve my claim issues, I'm not complaining. The important thing is getting help when you need it.

•At least there are options now. A few years ago you were just stuck if you couldn't get through.

For work search issues specifically, double-check that you're not entering the same employer multiple times with different contact methods. That can trigger a flag.

Amara Chukwu
•Oh that might be it! I did apply to the same company through their website and also through Indeed. Would that cause a problem?
0 coins
Giovanni Conti
•Yes, that could definitely flag your claim. Try to vary your job contacts and make sure each entry is for a genuinely different opportunity.

@OP did you end up trying that Claimyr thing? I'm curious if it actually works before I give it a shot.

•I signed up yesterday and they're supposed to call me back when they get me connected to an agent. Will update once I hear back!

•It worked great for me. Took about 2 hours but I got connected without having to sit by the phone the whole time.

Another option is to contact your state representative's office. They sometimes have a direct line to Washington ESD for constituent services.
0 coins
Fatima Al-Hashimi
•That's a good last resort option, especially for cases where you've been waiting weeks without resolution.

Ava Thompson
•I did this once and it actually helped. They can't resolve everything but they can sometimes get your case escalated.

Update: I got connected through Claimyr this morning! The agent was able to fix my work search issue in about 10 minutes. Turns out I was entering job contacts wrong like some of you suspected. Thanks everyone for the help!

Dylan Campbell
•That's awesome! I'm definitely going to try it for my adjudication issue.

•Glad it worked out for you! It's such a relief when you can finally get these issues resolved.

•Great to hear! What was the correct way to enter the job contacts? Might help others avoid the same mistake.
0 coins
Amara Chukwu
The agent explained that each job contact should be for a specific position, not just the company. So instead of 'Applied to Amazon' I should put 'Applied to Amazon - Warehouse Associate position' or whatever the specific job title was.
0 coins
Fatima Al-Hashimi
•That makes sense. The system wants to see you're applying for actual job openings, not just sending generic applications.
0 coins
Dmitry Kuznetsov
•Good to know! I'll make sure to be more specific with my entries going forward.

Ava Thompson
Thanks for sharing the resolution! These kinds of detailed explanations really help other people who might run into similar issues.

•No problem! I know how frustrating it is when you can't get answers. Hopefully this helps someone else avoid the same headache.

So basically you need a third-party service to get basic customer service from your own state agency. This system is broken.

For future reference, the Washington ESD website has pretty detailed instructions about work search requirements. Might be worth bookmarking the job search section.
0 coins
Amara Chukwu
•Yeah, I should have read that more carefully from the beginning. Would have saved me a lot of trouble!

Fatima Al-Hashimi
•The requirements can be confusing though. Sometimes it's easier to just ask an agent to clarify rather than trying to interpret the website.

•Definitely helpful to have multiple strategies. The phone system isn't going to get better anytime soon.
