How to get ahold of unemployment office - Washington ESD phone impossible
I've been trying to reach someone at Washington ESD for over two weeks now and it's absolutely impossible. Every time I call the main number I either get a busy signal or sit on hold for hours just to get disconnected. My claim has been stuck in adjudication for 6 weeks and I have no idea what's going on. I've tried calling first thing in the morning, during lunch, even late in the day - nothing works. Has anyone actually managed to get through to a real person lately? What's the secret? I'm about to lose my apartment if I don't get this resolved soon.

The phone system is completely overwhelmed right now. I've had better luck calling the customer service line at 833-572-8400 right when they open at 8am. But even then it's hit or miss.

•I tried that number too but still couldn't get through. Do you have to keep redialing or is there a trick to it?

•Keep redialing. I usually have to call 20-30 times before getting in the queue.

been dealing with the same thing for my standby claim... it's ridiculous how hard it is to reach anyone

•How long have you been trying? This is driving me crazy.

I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD when I was having the same issue. They basically keep calling for you until they reach an agent, then connect you. Check out claimyr.com - there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Saved me hours of frustration.

•That sounds too good to be true. How much does something like that cost?

•It's way cheaper than missing rent because you can't reach ESD. The video explains everything - basically they handle all the redialing headache for you.

•I'm skeptical of services like this but if it actually works... might be worth trying

The trick is calling exactly at 8:00:00 AM. Not 8:01, not 7:59. Set multiple alarms and have your phone ready. Even then you might need to try for several days in a row.

•I'll try this tomorrow morning. Should I call the main number or the customer service line?

•Customer service line 833-572-8400. Main number is basically useless these days.

Why is this so hard??? Other states don't have this problem!

•Washington ESD is understaffed and overloaded. COVID made everything worse and they never caught up.

•It's 2025 though! They've had years to fix this mess.

For adjudication issues specifically, sometimes you can get help through the online messaging system on your SAW account. It's slow but at least you get a paper trail.

•I tried that weeks ago and never got a response. Is there a specific way to word the message?

•Be very specific about your claim number and the exact issue. Don't write a novel - they ignore long messages.

•The messaging system is a joke. I sent 3 messages over 2 months and got one generic response.

Try calling the WorkSource office in your area. Sometimes they can help with basic claim issues or at least tell you what's going on.

•I didn't know WorkSource could help with ESD claims. What kind of stuff can they do?

•They can check your claim status and sometimes resolve simple issues. Won't help with complex adjudication but worth a shot.

I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned and it actually worked. Got through to an agent in about 30 minutes instead of spending my whole day redialing. Totally worth it when you're desperate.

•Did they actually solve your problem once you got through?

•Yeah, turned out my employer hadn't responded to their request for information. Agent was able to tell me exactly what was needed.

•How does the service work exactly? Do they give you a callback when they reach someone?

honestly the whole system is broken. took me 8 weeks to get my first payment and that was only after my state representative's office got involved

•Your state rep helped? How did you contact them about this?

•just called their local office and explained the situation. they have people who deal with ESD issues specifically

•This is good advice. State legislators' offices can sometimes cut through the bureaucracy.

The 8am thing works but you need persistence. I called 47 times one morning before getting through. Keep a tally so you don't lose count.

•47 times?! That's insane but I guess that's what it takes.

•Yep, set up speed dial and just keep hitting redial. Eventually you'll get in the queue.

•I use an auto-redial app on my phone. Makes it less tedious.

For what it's worth, once you do get through the agents are usually pretty helpful. It's just the getting through part that's horrible.

Mila Walker
•That's encouraging at least. I was worried they'd be rude after making people wait so long.

•Most of them know how frustrating the phone system is. They're dealing with angry people all day but they try to help.

Another option is to show up at a WorkSource office in person if there's one near you. Sometimes face-to-face gets better results than phone calls.

•Are they actually open for walk-ins? I thought everything was appointment only now.

Sophia Clark
•Most are taking walk-ins again but call ahead to check hours. Each office is different.

I'm dealing with an overpayment issue and used Claimyr to get through. The agent explained exactly why they think I owe money and how to appeal it. Would have taken me weeks to figure that out on my own.

•Good to know it works for different types of issues. I'm definitely going to try it.

•Yeah the demo video on their site explains it pretty well. Much easier than spending days trying to call.

Pro tip: if you do get through, have all your information ready - claim number, SSN, employer info, etc. They'll disconnect you if you have to go hunting for documents.

Mila Walker
•Good point. I'll make a checklist of everything I might need before calling.

•Also have specific questions written down. The call could end at any time so get the most important stuff answered first.

•And if they say they'll call you back, don't hold your breath. Get everything resolved on that first call if possible.

The sad reality is that normal people can't get through anymore without either extreme persistence or using a service like Claimyr. The system isn't designed for regular folks who have jobs and responsibilities.

Mila Walker
•That's exactly my problem. I can't spend 8 hours a day trying to call them.
0 coins
Justin Evans
•Right? It's like they're designed to make you give up. At least with a service you can go about your day while they handle the calling part.
