How to talk to a person at Washington ESD unemployment office - getting through?
I've been trying to reach someone at Washington ESD for over two weeks now about my claim that's been stuck in adjudication. Every time I call the main number, I either get a busy signal or sit on hold for hours before getting disconnected. I've tried calling first thing in the morning, during lunch, and even late in the day but nothing works. My weekly claims are being processed but I can't get answers about why my payments are delayed. Does anyone know the secret to actually speaking with a real person at unemployment? I'm getting desperate here.

omg same problem here! been calling for 3 weeks straight, longest hold was 4 hours before they hung up on me

•4 hours?? That's insane. I thought my 2 hour holds were bad. This system is completely broken.

•The phone system has been overwhelmed since the pandemic. Try calling at exactly 8:00 AM when they open - that's your best bet.

I've had success calling Tuesday through Thursday between 8:00-8:30 AM. Avoid Mondays and Fridays completely - those are the worst days. Also make sure you're calling the right number for your specific issue. For adjudication problems, try 800-318-6022 instead of the main line.

•Thank you! I didn't know there were different numbers for different issues. I've been calling the main line this whole time.

•That number didn't work for me either. Still got disconnected after 3 hours yesterday.

Here's what finally worked for me - I used a service called Claimyr that calls Washington ESD for you and gets you through to an actual person. Found it at claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing exactly how it works. They handle all the waiting and calling back, then connect you when they get through. Saved me literally days of frustration.

•Is this legit? Sounds too good to be true. How much does it cost?

Ella Lewis
•Yeah it's real, they don't ask for any personal info upfront and it's way cheaper than missing work to sit on hold all day. Much better than the alternative of never getting through.

•I'm checking out that video now. At this point I'll try anything to get my claim resolved.

The Washington ESD phone system is completely overwhelmed. I work in IT and can tell you they're probably getting thousands of calls per minute. Your best strategy is persistence and timing. Call right at 8 AM, have multiple phones ready, and be prepared to redial immediately if you get disconnected.

•Multiple phones is smart! I never thought of that. Do you think they can tell if you're calling from different numbers?

Camila Jordan
•They might be able to track it but I doubt they care. They're more focused on getting through their call queue than monitoring for multiple attempts.

ugh this is so frustrating!! ive been unemployed for 6 weeks and still havent gotten a single payment because of some stupid verification issue. tried calling every single day and NOTHING

Andrew Pinnock
•For verification issues, you might need to upload documents through your SecureAccess Washington account instead of calling. Check your account for any pending actions.

•already did that like 3 weeks ago and still nothing. the system just says pending review

I finally got through last week after trying for a month. The representative told me they're getting 10x more calls than normal and most people hang up after 30 minutes. You literally have to be willing to wait 3-4 hours minimum. I used speaker phone and did other work while waiting.

•3-4 hours?! That's a whole work day. How is this acceptable for a government service?

Madeline Blaze
•It's not acceptable but it's reality right now. The system is broken and they know it.

Another option I discovered is the Claimyr service I mentioned earlier. They actually succeeded in getting me connected to a Washington ESD representative within 2 hours, which is way better than the 6+ hour waits I was experiencing on my own. They handle the callback process so you don't have to sit there listening to hold music all day.

Max Knight
•How does that work exactly? Do they call you back when they get through?
0 coins
Ella Lewis
•Yes exactly. You give them your info and they call ESD for you, then conference you in when they reach an agent. Much more efficient than doing it yourself.

PROTIP: Download an auto-redialer app on your phone. I used one that automatically redials when it gets a busy signal. Took about 200 attempts over 2 days but I finally got through. Don't give up!

•Which app did you use? I'm willing to try anything at this point.

•Auto Redial on Android worked for me. Not sure about iPhone options but there are probably similar apps.

I've been calling for 2 months straight with no luck. My adjudication has been pending since December and I'm about to lose my apartment. This is literally ruining my life.

•Have you tried contacting your state representative's office? They sometimes have direct lines to ESD that can help with urgent cases.

•I didn't know that was an option. I'll look up my representative today. Thank you!

The Washington ESD callback system is completely useless too. I've requested callbacks 15 times and never received a single one. They're either lying about the callback feature or it's completely broken.

•The callback system is overwhelmed just like everything else. I think they have a 2-3 week backlog on callbacks currently.

•2-3 weeks?! By then my situation will be resolved or I'll be homeless. This is insane.

Try calling exactly at 8:00:00 AM when they open. I set multiple alarms and had 3 phones ready. Got through on the second phone within 20 minutes. It's all about timing and persistence.

•I'm going to try this tomorrow morning. Setting my alarm for 7:55 AM and having everything ready.

I heard that calling during state holidays when they're closed can sometimes get you a lower queue position for when they reopen. Not sure if it's true but worth trying.

Camila Jordan
•That doesn't make sense technically. Phone queues reset when offices close and reopen.

Just wanted to update that I tried the Claimyr service mentioned earlier and it actually worked! They got me connected to a Washington ESD agent in about 90 minutes. The agent was able to resolve my adjudication issue immediately once I could explain the situation. Would definitely recommend if you're stuck like I was.

•That's great news! I'm definitely going to try them. How did they resolve your adjudication issue?

•Turns out they needed additional documentation that was never requested through my online account. The agent was able to tell me exactly what to upload and my payments were released within 3 days.

The whole Washington ESD system needs a complete overhaul. It's 2025 and we're still dealing with phone systems from the 1990s. Other states have much better online systems that don't require phone calls for basic issues.

•Totally agree. The technology is there, they just haven't invested in upgrading their infrastructure.

•Write to your representatives about this. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I work night shifts so I can call during the day when most people are working. Even then it's still nearly impossible to get through. The system is just fundamentally broken.
0 coins
Andrew Pinnock
•That's actually a good strategy. Mid-morning calls (10-11 AM) tend to have shorter wait times than opening or closing hours.

Connor Richards
•I've tried that too but still waiting 2-3 hours minimum. It's exhausting.

For what it's worth, once you do get through to someone at Washington ESD, the representatives are generally helpful and knowledgeable. The problem is just getting to them in the first place. Don't give up - your issue can probably be resolved quickly once you reach the right person.

•That's encouraging to hear. I was starting to think even the agents wouldn't be able to help.

•Same experience here. The one time I got through, the agent was super helpful and fixed my issue in 10 minutes. Getting through is the hard part.

Last resort option: if your case is truly urgent (facing eviction, utilities shut off, etc.), you can sometimes get help by showing up in person at a WorkSource office. They can't process claims directly but they can sometimes make internal calls that get prioritized.

Isabella Tucker
•I didn't know this was possible. Where do I find the nearest WorkSource office?

•Go to worksourcewa.com and use their office locator. Call ahead to make sure they're open and can help with your specific issue.

I tried everything mentioned here and finally used that Claimyr service. It's seriously a game changer - got connected in under 2 hours when I couldn't get through on my own after weeks of trying. They handle all the frustrating parts and just connect you when they reach someone. Worth every penny.

•Just wanted to jump in as someone new to this community - I've been lurking and reading everyone's experiences. My claim has been stuck for about 3 weeks now and I was getting really discouraged, but seeing all these success stories with Claimyr is giving me hope. Planning to give them a try this week. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here, it's helping more people than you probably realize!

•Welcome to the community Miguel! I totally understand that discouragement - I was at my breaking point before finding this thread. It's amazing how sharing these experiences can help so many people who are stuck in the same frustrating situation. Definitely give Claimyr a shot and let us know how it goes. We're all in this together trying to navigate this broken system!

•Thanks Vincent! This community has been such a lifesaver. I've been dealing with my own adjudication nightmare for about a month now - tried calling every day for two weeks straight with no luck. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been both validating (knowing I'm not alone in this) and helpful with actual solutions. The Claimyr service keeps getting mentioned and honestly at this point I'm ready to try anything. Going to check out that demo video that was mentioned earlier. Really grateful to have found this thread!

•I'm new to this community too and just wanted to say how helpful this entire discussion has been! I've been struggling with my unemployment claim for about 5 weeks now - constant busy signals, endless hold times, and zero progress. Reading through everyone's strategies and seeing the success stories with Claimyr is honestly the first hope I've had in weeks. It's really reassuring to know there are actual solutions out there and that I'm not going crazy dealing with this system. Planning to try the Claimyr service first thing tomorrow morning. Thank you all for sharing your experiences - it means more than you know to those of us who are stuck!
