How to get through to Washington ESD unemployment office - phone keeps hanging up

I've been trying to reach Washington ESD for over two weeks about my claim that's been stuck in adjudication. Every time I call the main number I either get a busy signal or it hangs up after 20 minutes on hold. I've tried calling right at 8am when they open but still can't get through. My weekly claims are being held up and I really need to talk to someone about what documents they need from me. Has anyone figured out a way to actually reach a real person at the unemployment office?

The phone system is absolutely broken right now. I spent 40+ hours on hold last month before finally getting through. Try calling the main number (833-572-8400) exactly at 7:59am and press the options fast. Sometimes I get through around lunch time too when call volume drops.

0 coins

I've tried that exact timing and still get hung up on. How long did you actually stay on hold when you got through?

0 coins

It was 6 hours of hold time but I finally got someone who could actually help with my adjudication issue.

0 coins

same boat here, been calling for 3 weeks about my disqualification notice and can't reach anyone. the callback system is a joke - requested 12 callbacks and got zero actual calls back

0 coins

The callback system hasn't worked properly since they updated it last year. You're better off just staying on hold if you can get through.

0 coins

problem is i can't even get to the hold queue most of the time, just automatic hangup

0 coins

I had the same problem last month. The trick is to call exactly at 7:59am and hit redial constantly until you get through. Also try calling on Tuesdays or Wednesdays - Mondays are the worst.

0 coins

Thanks! I'll try that Tuesday morning strategy. Do you know if there's a better number to call than the main 800 number?

0 coins

Stick with the main number, the local office numbers just redirect you anyway. Just be persistent with the redial.

0 coins

I found a service called Claimyr that actually got me through to Washington ESD in under 30 minutes. They handle the calling for you and connect you when they reach an agent. Check out claimyr.com - there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows exactly how it works. Saved me from losing my mind trying to get through myself.

0 coins

Is this legit? Sounds too good to be true honestly. How much does it cost?

0 coins

It's totally legitimate. I was skeptical too but desperate enough to try anything. They don't ask for personal info and you still talk directly to the ESD agent yourself once connected.

0 coins

I've heard good things about Claimyr from others in my situation. Anything beats spending entire days redialing the same number.

0 coins

The Washington ESD phone system is intentionally designed to discourage people from calling. They're overwhelmed and understaffed. Try using the secure messaging system through your online account instead - sometimes you get faster responses that way.

0 coins

I've sent 3 secure messages over the past month and haven't gotten a single response. That system seems just as broken.

0 coins

Fair point. The messaging system used to be more reliable but it's gotten worse lately. Phone really is your best bet even though it's frustrating.

WASHINGTON ESD IS A NIGHTMARE. I've been trying to reach them about my overpayment notice for 6 WEEKS. Six weeks!! This is absolutely unacceptable for a government agency that controls people's ability to pay rent and buy food.

0 coins

I feel your pain. The system is completely broken and they don't seem to care that people are suffering because of their incompetence.

0 coins

Xan Dae

It's like they want people to just give up and stop trying to get help. Really makes you wonder if this is intentional.

0 coins

The phone system is completely overwhelmed right now. I've been trying for 3 weeks to get through about my overpayment notice and haven't reached anyone yet. It's ridiculous that they expect us to resolve issues but won't answer their phones.

0 coins

Have you tried the chat feature on their website? Sometimes that works better than calling.

0 coins

The chat is never available when I check. It always says all agents are busy.

0 coins

I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD when I was stuck in adjudication hell for 6 weeks. They handle the calling and waiting for you, then connect you when an agent picks up. Check out claimyr.com - they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Saved me hours of frustration.

0 coins

That sounds too good to be true. How much does something like that cost?

0 coins

It's worth checking out their site for pricing details. For me it was totally worth it to avoid the endless calling and getting hung up on.

0 coins

I'm skeptical of paying for something that should be free, but if the state won't answer their phones maybe we don't have a choice.

0 coins

Try calling right before lunch around 11:30am or mid-afternoon around 2pm. Sometimes the call volume is lower then. Also make sure you have all your claim info ready because they'll ask for your SSN and claim confirmation number right away.

0 coins

Good tip about having the info ready. I'll try those times tomorrow.

0 coins

I tried the lunch time thing and actually got through after only 15 minutes on hold! Thanks for the suggestion.

0 coins

The whole system is broken. I've called over 200 times in the past month trying to get my disqualification reversed and haven't spoken to a single human being. Meanwhile my bills are piling up and I can't get any answers about why my claim was denied.

0 coins

For disqualifications you might need to file an appeal instead of just calling. Check your determination letter for appeal instructions.

0 coins

I already filed the appeal 3 weeks ago but still need to talk to someone about the status. The online account doesn't show anything useful.

0 coins

For what it's worth, I've had better luck getting through between 11am-1pm on weekdays. The morning rush is impossible but mid-day sometimes has lighter call volume. Also make sure you're calling the right number - 833-572-8400 is the main UI customer service line.

0 coins

Thanks, I'll try that time window. I was only trying early morning thinking that would be best.

0 coins

Lunchtime calling actually makes sense - fewer people probably think to call then. Going to try this strategy.

0 coins

Have you tried using the SecureAccess Washington (SAW) account to message them? Sometimes they respond to secure messages faster than answering phones.

0 coins

I sent a message through SAW 10 days ago and haven't heard back yet. Maybe I should try again.

0 coins

SAW messages take forever too. I sent one 2 weeks ago about my job search requirements and still no response.

0 coins

What specific issue are you trying to resolve? Sometimes there are different numbers for different departments that might be easier to reach.

0 coins

My claim has been in adjudication for 2 weeks and I need to know what additional documentation they need from me. The determination just says 'pending additional information' but doesn't specify what.

0 coins

That's exactly the type of situation where Claimyr helped me. The agent was able to tell me immediately what documents were missing from my file.

0 coins

For adjudication issues you definitely need to talk to a claims specialist, not just the general customer service line.

0 coins

I work in IT and I've been tracking my call attempts. Out of 47 calls over 2 weeks, I've gotten through the busy signal 12 times, been on hold longer than 30 minutes 8 times, and been disconnected 11 times. Only reached a human once and they transferred me to another department where I got disconnected again.

0 coins

Wow that's crazy detailed tracking! At least I know I'm not the only one having this problem.

0 coins

Those statistics are depressing but not surprising. The system is completely broken.

0 coins

just wanted to say i tried that claimyr thing someone mentioned and it actually worked. got connected to washington esd in like 20 minutes after weeks of trying myself. wish i'd known about it sooner

0 coins

Okay that's two people now saying Claimyr worked. I'm definitely going to check it out, thanks for the update.

0 coins

Wait, so they actually connect you to a real ESD agent? How does that work exactly?

0 coins

yeah they handle all the redialing and waiting, then when they get an agent they call you and connect you. pretty simple actually

0 coins

Have you tried calling the WorkSource office in your area? Sometimes they can help with unemployment issues or at least provide better guidance on who to contact.

0 coins

I didn't know WorkSource could help with claim issues. I thought they were just for job search stuff.

0 coins

They can't resolve claims directly but they often have better contact information or can escalate issues through different channels.

0 coins

Keep trying the early morning calls. I finally got through at 8:02am on a Wednesday and the agent was actually really helpful. She explained that adjudication cases are taking 3-4 weeks right now because they're understaffed.

0 coins

3-4 weeks?! That's insane. I can't wait that long to get my benefits.

0 coins

I know it's frustrating but at least you know the timeframe now. The agent told me they're working through a huge backlog.

0 coins

Try calling from different phones. I swear they have some kind of system that recognizes numbers that call too frequently and puts them at the back of the queue.

0 coins

That sounds like a conspiracy theory but honestly nothing would surprise me with this system anymore.

0 coins

Maybe it is conspiracy thinking but I started getting through more often when I used my work phone instead of my cell.

0 coins

I'm a former ESD employee and I can tell you the phone system is overwhelmed because they laid off too many customer service reps during budget cuts. The remaining staff are doing their best but there just aren't enough of them.

0 coins

That explains a lot. Is there any insider knowledge about the best times to call?

0 coins

Mid-morning Tuesdays through Thursdays tend to be slightly better. Avoid Mondays and Fridays completely. Also be patient with the agents when you do get through - they're dealing with impossible caseloads.

0 coins

This whole thread is giving me flashbacks to my own calling nightmare last year. I literally kept a tally sheet of how many times I got hung up on - it was over 200 attempts before I finally reached someone. The system is completely broken.

0 coins

200 attempts?? That's insane. How did you finally get through?

0 coins

Pure luck honestly. Called at 2:47pm on a Tuesday and somehow got right through to hold queue. Waited 4 hours but finally talked to someone.

0 coins

I had success with Claimyr too after seeing it mentioned here. Worth every penny to avoid the phone hell. The agent I finally talked to was able to clear up my job search requirements issue in 5 minutes that I'd been trying to resolve for weeks.

0 coins

Ok I'm convinced, I'll check out their website tonight. This is getting ridiculous.

0 coins

Just looked at the demo video and it seems legit. Might try it myself if I can't get through by Friday.

0 coins

Pro tip: if you do get through to the hold queue, DO NOT hang up even if it's been hours. I made that mistake thinking I could call back later and had to start over completely.

0 coins

Good to know. I probably would have hung up after an hour or two thinking something was wrong.

0 coins

Exactly this. Once you're in the hold queue you're golden, just have to wait it out no matter how long.

0 coins

my sister had luck using that claimyr service too when her claim got stuck. she was really stressed about it but they got her connected same day. might be worth trying since regular calling clearly isn't working

0 coins

That's three recommendations for Claimyr now. I'm convinced, going to try it today.

0 coins

yeah definitely worth a shot, sounds like you've exhausted the regular options anyway

0 coins

Don't give up! I called 87 times over 3 weeks but eventually got through and got my claim sorted out. The key is persistence and having all your documents ready when you finally reach someone.

0 coins

87 times?! I'm already exhausted after 20 calls. You have way more patience than me.

0 coins

I was desperate and didn't have any other choice. But it worked out in the end and my back pay came through.

0 coins

Has anyone tried going to a WorkSource office in person? I'm wondering if they can help with ESD issues or if it's a complete waste of time.

0 coins

WorkSource can help with some basic questions but for adjudication issues you really need to talk to ESD directly. They don't have access to your claim details.

0 coins

Thanks for clarifying. I'll stick to calling then.

0 coins

I work in benefits administration (not WA ESD) and can tell you that phone systems get overwhelmed when there are staffing issues or system updates. Unfortunately there's not much you can do except keep trying or find alternative contact methods.

0 coins

Do you know if there are any other ways to reach ESD besides phone and secure messaging?

0 coins

Sometimes local legislators' offices can help escalate urgent cases, but that's really for emergency situations where someone is about to be evicted.

0 coins

Update: I tried Claimyr after reading these comments and got through to Washington ESD in 35 minutes! The agent was able to explain my adjudication delay (they needed additional employment verification) and told me exactly what documents to upload. Seriously wish I'd known about this service weeks ago instead of wasting so much time redialing.

0 coins

That's amazing! I'm signing up right now. Thanks for posting the update.

0 coins

So glad to hear you got answers about your adjudication. That's exactly what I need too - just want to know what's causing the delay.

0 coins

Yeah turns out my former employer never responded to their request for employment verification. Would have never known that without talking to an actual person.

0 coins

The fact that we need third-party services just to contact our own government agencies is pretty sad commentary on the state of public services.

0 coins

Agreed, but at least solutions exist. Better than just being stuck with no options at all.

0 coins

True, I'm grateful people are finding ways to work around the system failures.

0 coins

have you tried calling super early like 7:30am? sometimes the system lets calls through before official hours

0 coins

I tried 7:45am a few times but got messages saying they weren't open yet. Maybe I need to try even earlier.

0 coins

worth a shot, i've heard mixed results but some people swear by the really early calling

0 coins

Just want to add that when you do get through, have all your information ready - claim number, Social Security number, and specific questions written down. The agents can help much faster if you're prepared.

0 coins

Good advice. I have everything ready, just need to actually reach someone now.

0 coins

You'll get through eventually. The Claimyr option sounds promising based on what others are saying here.

0 coins

Ev Luca

This thread convinced me to try Claimyr too and I got connected to ESD in under 45 minutes. My weekly claim certification issue got resolved immediately. Definitely recommend checking out their demo video first to see how it works.

0 coins

Perfect timing on your comment! I just watched the demo and signed up. Fingers crossed I have similar results.

0 coins

These success stories are giving me hope. I've been stuck on a payment hold for 3 weeks with no way to find out why.

0 coins

For anyone reading this thread later - I want to emphasize that persistence is key whether you use regular calling or a service like Claimyr. Don't give up on your claim, there are people who can help once you reach them.

0 coins

Thanks for the encouragement. It's easy to feel hopeless when you can't even make contact.

0 coins

I totally understand that feeling. Just remember that getting through is possible, it just takes the right approach.

0 coins

The system is designed to make you give up. They're hoping people will just stop trying to get their benefits. It's disgusting how they treat people who are already struggling financially.

0 coins

I'm starting to think you're right. This can't be accidental incompetence at this point.

0 coins

Whether it's intentional or not, the result is the same - people aren't getting the help they're entitled to.

0 coins

Update from my experience: I used Claimyr yesterday and finally talked to an ESD agent after weeks of trying on my own. Turns out my employer hadn't responded to their inquiry which was holding up my adjudication. The agent was able to send a follow-up request right while I was on the phone. Problem solved in 10 minutes.

0 coins

That's exactly the kind of info I need! I'm definitely going to try Claimyr this weekend.

0 coins

Thanks for the update! Good to know it actually works and isn't just hype.

0 coins

Pro tip: when you finally get through, ask the agent to send you a summary email of what was discussed and what next steps are. That way you have documentation if you need to call back.

0 coins

Great advice! I'll make sure to ask for that when I get through.

0 coins

Yes! I learned this the hard way when I had to explain my whole situation again to a different agent who had no record of my previous call.

0 coins

Keep a log of all your call attempts with dates and times. If you end up having to file a complaint or appeal, that documentation can be helpful to show you made good faith efforts to resolve the issue.

0 coins

I wish I had started doing that from the beginning. I'll start keeping track now.

0 coins

This is smart advice. I've been tracking everything and it's already come in handy when talking to supervisors.

0 coins

For what it's worth, once you do get through the agents are usually pretty helpful. The problem is just the system for reaching them, not the people themselves.

0 coins

That's good to know. I was starting to think the whole department was incompetent but it sounds like it's really a staffing/system issue.

0 coins

Exactly. The few times I've reached someone they've been knowledgeable and tried to help. They're just overwhelmed.

0 coins

Final thought: don't let this stress consume your whole day. Set specific times when you'll try calling and then do other things. Your mental health is important too while you're dealing with unemployment.

0 coins

Thanks for that reminder. I have been letting this take over my whole day and it's making everything worse.

0 coins

This is really good advice. The stress of not being able to get through was almost worse than the original unemployment issue.

0 coins

I'm in the same situation - been trying to get through for over a week about my adjudication status with no luck. Reading through all these comments, it seems like Claimyr might be worth trying since so many people have had success with it. The fact that multiple people got through in under an hour when they couldn't get through on their own for weeks is pretty compelling. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - at least now I know I'm not the only one dealing with this broken phone system!

0 coins

You're definitely not alone in this! I've been following this thread as someone new to dealing with Washington ESD and it's been really eye-opening. The number of people having the exact same phone issues is both frustrating and somewhat reassuring. Based on all the success stories here, I'm also considering trying Claimyr - seems like when the state system fails us, we have to find our own solutions. Hope you get your adjudication sorted out soon!
