How to contact Washington ESD unemployment - phone keeps hanging up
I've been trying to reach Washington ESD for over a week about my unemployment claim that's been stuck in adjudication. Every time I call the main number, I either get a busy signal or it hangs up after 2-3 minutes on hold. I've tried calling first thing in the morning, during lunch, and even late afternoon but nothing works. My weekly claim is showing pending and I can't figure out what's holding it up. Has anyone had luck getting through to an actual person at Washington ESD recently? What's the best time to call or is there a different number I should be using?

The main number is completely overwhelmed. I spent 4 hours yesterday trying to get through and never made it past the automated system. It's so frustrating when you need help with your claim.

•Four hours?? That's insane. I can't afford to sit on hold all day when I'm already stressed about money.

•The system is definitely overloaded. They really need to hire more staff or fix their phone system.

Try calling right at 8:00 AM when they open. I've had better luck in the first 30 minutes of the day before everyone else starts calling. Also make sure you have your Social Security number and claim confirmation number ready.

•I tried that yesterday but still got disconnected. Do you call the main 800 number or is there a different one?

•Main number is what I use. Sometimes it takes 10-15 attempts even in the morning. Don't give up after just one try.

I discovered this service called Claimyr that actually got me through to Washington ESD in about 20 minutes. They handle the calling and waiting for you, then connect you when an agent picks up. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows exactly how it works. Saved me hours of frustration.

•Is this legit? I'm skeptical of paying for something that should be free.

•I was skeptical too but after wasting so much time calling myself, it was worth it. They don't ask for personal info, just your phone number to call you back when they get through.

•How much does it cost? I'm already tight on money waiting for my claim to process.

The online messaging system through your Washington ESD account sometimes gets faster responses than calling. Have you tried submitting a message through the secure portal?

Zane Hernandez
•I sent a message 5 days ago and haven't heard back yet. My claim is still showing the same status.

•Those messages can take 2-3 weeks for a response. Not helpful when you need immediate answers.

ugh the phone system is BROKEN. I've called 50+ times this week and gotten through ONCE only to be transferred and disconnected. This is ridiculous when people need help with their benefits.

Zane Hernandez
•Exactly! It's like they don't want to help people. I'm starting to panic about my bills.

•Same here. The stress of not being able to reach anyone is making everything worse.

For adjudication issues specifically, you might need to speak to a claims specialist rather than general customer service. When you do get through, ask to be transferred to someone who can review adjudication decisions.

•Good to know. I wasn't sure if there were different departments. Do you know what causes adjudication delays?

•Usually it's because they need to verify your separation from your employer or confirm your work search activities. Sometimes it's just a backlog.

Try calling the WorkSource office in your area. They sometimes have a direct line to Washington ESD or can help with basic claim questions.

•I didn't know WorkSource could help with unemployment claims. Is that a different office?

•Yeah, they're connected to Washington ESD and can sometimes resolve simple issues or escalate your case.

I had the same problem last month and ended up using that Claimyr service someone mentioned. Skeptical at first but they got me through in 15 minutes when I couldn't get through after days of trying myself.

•Did they actually solve your adjudication issue or just get you connected?

Debra Bai
•They got me connected to the right person who was able to explain what was holding up my claim. Turned out to be a simple documentation issue.

Sometimes if you press different options in the phone menu you can get through to a different queue. I accidentally pressed the wrong number once and got through faster.

Zane Hernandez
•Which option did you press? I usually just go straight to the claims option.

Gabriel Freeman
•I think it was the employer services option by mistake, but they transferred me to the right department.

The wait times are insane right now. I called 73 times last week (yes I counted) and only got through twice. Both times I was on hold for over an hour.

Zane Hernandez
•73 times?? That's dedication. I'm losing my mind after just 20 attempts.

Millie Long
•This is exactly why the system is broken. Nobody should have to call 73 times to get help.

Have you tried calling on different days of the week? I've noticed Tuesdays and Wednesdays seem slightly less busy than Mondays and Fridays.

Zane Hernandez
•I haven't paid attention to which days I called. I'll try Tuesday morning and see if that makes a difference.

My cousin works at Washington ESD and she says they're understaffed and getting thousands of calls per day. The phone system literally can't handle the volume.

Zane Hernandez
•That's helpful context but doesn't solve my immediate problem. I still need to reach someone about my claim.

•They need to hire more people or upgrade their phone system. This is unacceptable for a government service.

I'm in the same boat with adjudication. Been waiting 3 weeks and can't get through to anyone. My savings are almost gone and I'm getting desperate.

Zane Hernandez
•Three weeks is awful. I'm only at one week and already panicking. Hang in there.

Nathaniel Stewart
•Seriously consider that Claimyr service if you're desperate. It's designed exactly for this situation.

Try calling the main number and immediately pressing 0 to bypass the menu. Sometimes that gets you to a human faster.

•I'll try that trick. At this point I'm willing to try anything.

The secure messaging is your best bet even if it's slow. At least you get a paper trail of your attempts to contact them.

Zane Hernandez
•Good point about the paper trail. I should probably send another message documenting how long I've been trying to reach them.

I've been calling for 2 weeks straight and finally got through yesterday using that Claimyr thing. They called me back when an agent was available and I was able to resolve my issue in 10 minutes.

•Same here. If multiple people are having success with it, maybe it's not a scam.

Make sure when you do get through that you have all your information ready - SSN, confirmation number, dates of employment, reason for separation. Don't waste the opportunity by not being prepared.

Zane Hernandez
•Good advice. I have all that info saved in my phone so I can access it quickly.

The frustration is real. I spent my entire morning calling and got nowhere. At least we're not alone in this struggle.

•Thanks for the solidarity. It does help knowing I'm not the only one dealing with this.

Update: I tried the Claimyr service and they got me through in 18 minutes. The agent was able to see that my former employer hadn't responded to their inquiry, which was causing the delay. She escalated it and said I should see movement within a week. Worth every penny after all the time I wasted calling myself.

•That's great news! I'm definitely going to try Claimyr now. Thanks for the update.
