How to get contact with Washington ESD unemployment office - need help reaching someone
I've been trying to reach Washington ESD for over a week now about my unemployment claim and I'm getting nowhere. Every time I call the main number I either get busy signals or sit on hold for hours just to get disconnected. My claim shows some kind of issue that needs to be resolved but I can't figure out what it is from the website. Has anyone had luck actually getting through to talk to someone at Washington ESD? What's the best way to contact them when you really need help?

The phone system is completely overwhelmed right now. I've been calling for three days straight and haven't gotten through once. It's ridiculous that they make it this hard to get help with your claim.

•Right? Like how are we supposed to resolve issues if we can't even talk to anyone? This is so frustrating.

•Try calling right at 8am when they open, that's usually your best bet for getting in the queue.

I had the same problem last month. What worked for me was using Claimyr - it's a service that helps you get through to Washington ESD agents. Check out claimyr.com, they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows exactly how it works. Saved me hours of calling.

•Never heard of that before. Is it legit? How does it actually work?

•Yeah it's real. They basically handle the calling and waiting for you, then connect you when an agent picks up. Way better than sitting on hold yourself.

•That sounds too good to be true. What's the catch?

Best times to call are Tuesday-Thursday between 8-10am. Avoid Mondays and Fridays completely, those are the worst days to try reaching Washington ESD. Also make sure you have your Social Security number and claim confirmation number ready before you call.

•Good to know about the timing! I've been calling randomly throughout the week.

•I tried Tuesday morning last week and still couldn't get through. The system is just broken.

You can also try sending a secure message through your eServices account, but don't expect a quick response. It took them 10 days to respond to mine.

•10 days?! That's not helpful when you need answers now.

•The secure messages are really for non-urgent questions. If your claim is on hold you need to talk to someone directly.

Here's what I learned after weeks of trying: Call exactly at 8:00am, have all your info ready, and be prepared to wait. I got through on my 12th try doing this. Once you're in the queue, DO NOT hang up even if it says 2+ hours.

•12th try?? This is insane that it's this hard to get help.

•I gave up after try number 8. My phone bill was getting ridiculous from all the calling.

Has anyone tried the customer service callback option? I requested one last week but haven't heard anything yet.

•The callback system is pretty unreliable. I've requested three callbacks over the past month and only got one, which came at 7pm when I couldn't answer.

•Of course they call when you can't pick up. This whole system is a mess.

Just to follow up on the Claimyr thing - I used it again last week when I had questions about my job search requirements. Got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending my whole day calling. Really worth checking out if you're stuck.

•Okay you've convinced me to at least look into it. The regular calling method clearly isn't working.

•I'm skeptical of any service that charges for something that should be free, but at this point I'm desperate enough to try anything.

Pro tip: if you do get through, don't let them rush you off the phone. Ask ALL your questions while you have them on the line because who knows when you'll get through again.

•Good advice! I'll make a list of everything I need to ask beforehand.

Sofía Rodríguez
•Yes! I made the mistake of only asking about one thing and then had to start the whole calling process over again for my other question.

The Washington ESD phone system is intentionally difficult. They don't want people calling. It's cheaper for them if you just give up and figure it out yourself.

•That's a pretty cynical take but honestly it feels true sometimes.

•I don't think it's intentional, they're just understaffed and overwhelmed. But yeah, the result is the same - impossible to get help.

Another option is to visit a WorkSource office in person if you have one nearby. They can sometimes help with basic questions or at least point you in the right direction.

•I didn't know WorkSource could help with Washington ESD stuff. Is that really a thing?

•They can't do everything, but they can help with some basic account issues and definitely with job search requirements.

I've been calling for two weeks about my adjudication status and finally got through yesterday using that Claimyr service someone mentioned. Agent was able to explain exactly what documents they needed from me. Wish I'd known about it sooner!

•That's three people now who've said good things about Claimyr. Maybe I should seriously consider it.

•What kind of documents did they need for your adjudication? I'm dealing with something similar.

If your claim is just pending and not showing any specific issues, sometimes you just have to wait. Mine took 6 weeks to process with no action needed from me.

•Mine shows there's an issue that needs to be resolved though, not just pending processing.

•Oh if it shows an issue then you definitely need to talk to someone. Can't just wait that out.

Keep trying the phone but also document everything - when you called, how long you waited, what happened. If you end up needing to file an appeal later, having that record helps.

•Good point about keeping records. I hadn't thought about that.

•Definitely keep records. I had to show my calling attempts when I appealed a disqualification.

Update: Finally got through after using everyone's advice here. Called at 8am sharp on a Wednesday, waited 3 hours on hold, but got my issue resolved. Thanks for all the tips!

•That's great! What was the issue in the end?

•They needed verification of my last employer's information. Something that could have been resolved in 5 minutes if I could have gotten through sooner.

•Typical. Such a simple thing but impossible to resolve without talking to someone.

For anyone still struggling - I ended up using Claimyr after reading about it here and it was honestly a lifesaver. Got connected to an agent the same day I signed up. Sometimes you just have to admit the regular system isn't working and find another way.

•Alright, I'm convinced. Going to check out that video demo and see if it's worth trying.
