Just want to echo what others said about filing ASAP. I waited a week after getting laid off thinking I might get called back, and that delayed my whole claim. The sooner you file, the sooner payments can start.
One last thing - if your payments seem wrong or you have issues, don't wait around hoping it fixes itself. Get in touch with Washington ESD as soon as possible. I know the phones are crazy busy but you need to advocate for yourself.
This is so true. I had a payment issue that took 6 weeks to resolve because I kept thinking it would sort itself out. Wish I'd used something like Claimyr earlier to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD.
Make sure you understand the difference between being terminated and being laid off when you file with Washington ESD. Termination for cause is different from termination due to lack of work.
I was terminated from my last job and Washington ESD approved my benefits without any issues. The key is being upfront about everything and not trying to hide details about your termination.
The waiting is definitely the hardest part but it sounds like you're all set. Should see that money in your account by the end of the week!
Just wanted to add that Washington ESD usually sends an email notification when they process your payment, so keep an eye on your inbox too.
The anxiety of waiting for that first payment is real. I was checking my KeyBank card app constantly and calling the automated phone line multiple times a day. Drove myself crazy for nothing because the payment came exactly when it was supposed to, I just didn't know what 'supposed to' meant.
Update for anyone still having trouble getting through to Washington ESD: I used Claimyr again yesterday to help a friend who was having payment issues. Got connected in under 30 minutes and the agent was able to identify that her claim had been flagged for identity verification. Would never have figured that out from the online portal alone.

Make sure your contact information is always up to date in your Washington ESD account! They'll send important notices about your weekly claims and any issues that come up. I missed a critical letter because I forgot to update my address.

•This happened to my neighbor too. She missed a notice about additional documentation needed and her benefits got suspended.

•Exactly! And if you move, update it immediately. Don't wait until your next weekly claim filing.

One last thing - if you start working part-time while collecting unemployment, you can still file weekly claims and potentially receive partial benefits. Don't just stop filing completely if you get some work. Report the earnings and let Washington ESD calculate if you still qualify for anything.

•Nope, they have a formula that reduces your benefits based on how much you earn, but you might still get some money. Always better to report and let them calculate it.

•The partial benefit calculation can be confusing though. If you're not sure how much to report or how it affects your benefits, that's another good reason to talk to someone at Washington ESD directly.
