How to contact Washington ESD unemployment office - phone lines always busy
I've been trying to reach Washington ESD for over a week about my unemployment claim and I can't get through to anyone. Every time I call the main number I get a busy signal or it just hangs up on me after being on hold forever. My claim has been pending for 3 weeks now and I really need to talk to someone about what's going on. Has anyone figured out the best way to actually get through to a real person at the unemployment office? I'm getting desperate here.

•It's so frustrating! How are we supposed to resolve issues if we can't even talk to anyone?

•The volume is insane right now. I heard they only have like 50 phone agents for the whole state.

omg same problem here!! I've called like 50 times this week and either get busy signal or they hang up on me after 2+ hours on hold. so annoying

•Right?? It's like they don't want us to reach them. What's the point of having a phone number if no one answers?

•The system is overwhelmed. Try calling right at 8am when they open - that's your best shot at getting through.

I've had success calling right at 8am when they open. You have to call the exact minute they start taking calls or you'll get the busy signal. Also try calling on Tuesday or Wednesday - Mondays and Fridays are the worst.

Drew Hathaway
•I tried that but still couldn't get through. Maybe I need to be faster with the redial?
0 coins
Dominique Adams
•Yeah, have your phone ready to redial immediately. Sometimes it takes 20+ attempts even at 8am sharp.

Best times to call Washington ESD are right at 8:00 AM sharp when they open, or try the technical support line at 833-572-8400 - sometimes they can transfer you to claims. Also make sure you're calling 800-318-6022 for the main unemployment line, not the old numbers that might be floating around online.

•I tried calling right at 8am yesterday and still got busy signal. Will try the tech support number though, thanks!

•The tech support line worked for me last month! They transferred me to claims after I explained I couldn't get through the main line.

•wait there's a tech support line? why don't they advertise this more

There's actually a service called Claimyr that can help you get through to Washington ESD agents. I found it at claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Basically they handle all the calling and waiting for you.

Drew Hathaway
•That sounds too good to be true. How does it actually work?

Marilyn Dixon
•You give them your info and they call Washington ESD for you, then connect you when they get through to an agent. Saved me hours of frustration.

Louisa Ramirez
•Is it expensive though? I'm already broke from waiting for my benefits.

You can also try messaging through your SecureAccess Washington account, but honestly they take forever to respond to those too. I sent a message 2 weeks ago and still nothing.
0 coins
Yara Sayegh
•Yeah I tried that already, no response yet. It's like they're ignoring everyone.

Paolo Longo
•The online messages can take 7-10 business days for a response, especially if it's about adjudication issues.

Another option is to try the chat feature on the Washington ESD website, though that's often overwhelmed too. You can also submit a message through your SecureAccess Washington account, but response times are really slow right now.

Drew Hathaway
•I tried the chat but it said all agents were busy and to try again later. Same message for 3 days straight.
0 coins
Isabel Vega
•Yeah the chat is hit or miss. Sometimes it works early in the morning though.

I actually found this service called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD last month. They basically call for you and get you connected to an actual agent. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Saved me so much time and frustration.

•Really? That sounds too good to be true. How does it work exactly?

•I'm skeptical of anything that charges money to call a government office that should be free to contact.
0 coins
Javier Cruz
•I get the skepticism but honestly after wasting 20+ hours trying to get through myself, it was worth it. They don't ask for any personal info, just your callback number.

NOBODY ANSWERS THE PHONE ANYMORE!!! I've called 200+ times this week and NOTHING. This is ridiculous - how are we supposed to get help with our claims???

•I feel your frustration. The system is definitely overwhelmed right now.

•It's been like this for months though, not just recently. They need to hire more people.

If your claim is stuck in adjudication, you might also try contacting your local WorkSource office. They sometimes have direct lines to Washington ESD and can help escalate urgent issues.
0 coins
Drew Hathaway
•I didn't know WorkSource could help with Washington ESD issues. I'll try calling them tomorrow.
0 coins
Dominique Adams
•They can't resolve everything but they might be able to get you a callback or escalate your case.
0 coins
Paolo Longo
For future reference, if your claim is stuck in adjudication, you can also request a hearing if it's been more than 4 weeks without a decision. That sometimes speeds things up because they have to assign someone to review your case.
0 coins
Yara Sayegh
•How do I request a hearing? Is there a form I need to fill out?
0 coins
Paolo Longo
•You can request it through your online account or by calling. The hearing request form is also available on the Washington ESD website.
0 coins
Malik Thomas
•be careful with hearings though, sometimes they can work against you if you don't have all your documentation ready

Another trick is to call the WorkSource offices directly - sometimes they can help with unemployment claims or at least tell you what's going on with your case.
0 coins
Yara Sayegh
•Oh that's a good idea! I didn't think of trying WorkSource. Do you know if they can access the same system?
0 coins
Amina Diallo
•They can see some basic info but can't make changes to your claim. Still helpful for checking status though.

this whole system is such a joke. they make it impossible to reach them then wonder why people get frustrated. i've been trying for 3 months to get my overpayment issue resolved

Isabella Costa
•3 months?? That's insane. Have you tried contacting your state representative's office? Sometimes they can help with government agency issues.
0 coins
NeonNebula
•hadn't thought of that actually. might be worth a shot at this point

tried calling my state rep's office too but they said they can't help with individual unemployment cases anymore

•Some legislators will still help with urgent cases, but you need to document everything first.

Update: I used Claimyr again last week and got through to resolve an issue with my job search requirements. Much easier than spending all day on the phone myself.

Drew Hathaway
•How long did it take them to get you connected?
0 coins
Marilyn Dixon
•About 2 hours, but I didn't have to sit by the phone the whole time. They called me back when they got through.

Pro tip: if you do get through to Washington ESD, have all your information ready - claim number, SSN, recent work history, dates of last employment. They'll ask for all of it and if you don't have it ready they might disconnect you.
0 coins
Drew Hathaway
•Good advice! I'll make a list of everything before I try calling again.
0 coins
Angel Campbell
•Also write down the agent's name and reference number if they give you one.

CosmicCowboy
Just a heads up - if you're calling about adjudication specifically, they may not be able to give you much info over the phone anyway. Adjudication decisions have to be made by specific staff members and they often need to review documents first.
0 coins
Yara Sayegh
•So frustrating that they can't even tell you what documents they need or what the holdup is.

•This is why I hate dealing with government offices. No transparency at all.

Try calling during lunch break times too - like 11:30am to 1:30pm. I got through once during that window when I think fewer people were calling.

Yara Sayegh
•Good tip! I'll try that today.

•ooh yeah i never thought of lunch time. everyone probably calls first thing in the morning

has anyone tried showing up at the physical office? i'm getting desperate enough to drive there

•Most Washington ESD offices aren't doing walk-ins anymore. You'd probably be turned away at the door.

•ugh this is so frustrating. there has to be some way to get help

The wait times are definitely brutal. I finally got through after 3 weeks of trying and they resolved my adjudication issue in 5 minutes. The hard part is just making contact.
0 coins
Drew Hathaway
•That gives me hope! What time of day did you finally get through?
0 coins
Angel Campbell
•Around 10:30am on a Wednesday. Not sure if that was luck or timing.

I used Claimyr too after seeing it mentioned here. Got connected to Washington ESD in about 20 minutes instead of spending my whole day calling. Definitely worth checking out if you're at your wit's end like I was.

•Ok you're the second person to mention this. I might have to try it if I can't get through today.

•Did they actually solve your issue or just get you connected?

•They got me connected to the right department and the Washington ESD agent was able to release my payment that had been stuck for weeks.

Pro tip: have all your information ready before you call - SSN, claim number, employer info, etc. They'll ask for all of it and if you have to put them on hold to find something, you might lose your place in line.

Another strategy: if you're calling about a specific issue like adjudication or an appeal, make sure you're calling the right number. Washington ESD has different phone lines for different types of issues.
0 coins
Drew Hathaway
•I've been calling the main number. Are there other numbers I should try?
0 coins
Dominique Adams
•Yes, there are separate lines for appeals, employer questions, and general claims. Check the Washington ESD website for the specific numbers.

Just want to add that persistence really does pay off. I called 47 times yesterday and finally got through on the 47th try.
0 coins
Drew Hathaway
•47 times in one day?! That's dedication. I'm going to keep trying.
0 coins
Angel Campbell
•It was exhausting but worth it. My benefits were released the same day.

Final thought: document everything while you're trying to reach them. Keep a log of when you called, how long you waited, what happened. If you need to escalate or appeal later, that documentation will be valuable.
