Thanks for sharing this! I'm bookmarking this thread for reference. The whole appeal process is so confusing and it's helpful to see someone's actual experience from start to finish.
UPDATE: Just wanted to follow up and say my payment came through this morning! Took exactly 9 business days from the appeal decision. Back pay was correct and my regular weekly claims are now processing normally. Thanks everyone for the advice and support!
If you need help immediately, most counties have emergency assistance programs while you wait for unemployment to kick in. Might be worth looking into.
Bottom line - file your claim! Washington ESD will investigate and make the determination. Even if you think you might be disqualified, let them decide rather than assuming. Worst case you get denied and can appeal if you think it's wrong.
Also keep in mind that even if you're initially disqualified, you can often requalify later by earning enough wages in new employment. Disqualifications aren't always permanent.
One more tip - if you're having trouble finding 3 activities per week, consider informational interviews. Reaching out to professionals in your field for advice counts as networking and can actually lead to job opportunities.
thanks everyone for all the helpful info. i feel way more confident about handling the work search requirement now

For what it's worth, I tried using that Claimyr service mentioned earlier and it actually worked great. Got through to Washington ESD in about 10 minutes instead of the usual hours of busy signals. The agent helped me set up tax withholding and answered a bunch of other questions I had about my claim status.

•That's really encouraging to hear! I think I'm going to give it a try if I can't get through on my own in the next few days.

•Same here, I've been trying to call Washington ESD for weeks about various issues and never get through. This might be the solution I need.

One more tip - if you do end up owing taxes and can't pay the full amount, the IRS has payment plan options available. Don't just ignore it if you can't pay everything at once.

•Good to know there are options if I do end up owing more than I can afford. Hopefully I can get the withholding set up soon to avoid that situation.

•Definitely get the withholding set up ASAP. Even if you've already received several months of benefits without withholding, starting now will help reduce what you owe later.
