One more thing - if you end up disagreeing with Washington ESD about your benefit amount, you can request a fact-finding interview before it goes to a formal appeal. Sometimes they can resolve calculation errors or missing wage issues through that process.
Thanks everyone for all the detailed info! This has been super helpful. I feel much more confident about filing my claim now that I understand how the benefit calculation works and what to expect. Sounds like with my salary I should get a decent weekly amount, at least enough to cover my essential expenses while I job search.
And remember that Claimyr service if you need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD quickly. Made my whole experience way less stressful.
Final reminder: keep copies of everything you submit and document all your job search activities from day one. Having good records will save you headaches if any questions come up later about your claim.
Just remember that even if there are delays, you'll get back pay for all the weeks you were eligible once your claim is approved. So if it takes 3 weeks to get approved, you'll get 2 weeks of back pay plus your current week (minus that first waiting week).
One more thing - make sure you understand the difference between your weekly benefit amount and your maximum benefit amount. Your weekly amount is what you get each week, but there's a total cap on how much you can receive during your benefit year.
I know this is scary but try to use this time to maybe consider career pivots or additional training. Sometimes being forced into a change leads to better opportunities.
Don't forget about networking! Reach out to former colleagues, join professional groups, attend virtual meetups. A lot of jobs aren't even posted publicly.

One more thing to keep in mind - if you received unemployment benefits in multiple states, you'll get separate 1099-G forms from each state. Just want to make sure people don't miss any income when filing taxes.

•I moved during my unemployment period - do I need to notify Washington ESD of my address change for tax purposes?

•Yes definitely update your address with Washington ESD so your 1099-G gets mailed to the right place. You can do it online in your account.
