One last tip - if you end up getting a part-time job while on unemployment, make sure you report those earnings on your weekly claim. You can usually work part-time and still collect some benefits, but you HAVE to report it.
Thank you everyone for all the detailed information! This has been incredibly helpful. I feel much more prepared for what to expect now, even though the waiting is still stressful. I'll keep checking my account and make sure to file my first weekly claim this coming Sunday.
Bottom line - quitting makes unemployment harder but not impossible if you have good cause. Just make sure you can prove that good cause with documentation.
Feel free to update us on what happens! And seriously, get in touch with Washington ESD directly through claimyr or whatever method works. Getting official guidance for your specific situation is invaluable.
Remember that your first payment might take an extra day or two while they set everything up. After that it should be smooth sailing with regular timing.
Just want to add that the maximum benefit amount can change during the year if there are legislative updates, so always check the current rates on the Washington ESD website. The $999 max is accurate for early 2025 but could potentially change.
One more tip - if you're laid off, file your claim as soon as possible. There's a waiting period before benefits start, so the sooner you file the sooner you'll start receiving payments. Don't wait thinking you might find another job quickly.

If you need to speak with someone at Washington ESD about benefit calculations or anything else, I found another option besides the regular phone system. Used Claimyr twice now and both times got connected to an actual agent within 10 minutes. Way better than spending hours on hold.

•That's the second time someone mentioned that service. Might be worth checking out if I run into issues.

•I was skeptical about paying for something like that but honestly the time savings alone made it worthwhile. Plus you get to talk to someone who can actually help instead of just waiting on hold forever.

Bottom line: expect roughly 50% of your average weekly wage up to the maximum benefit amount. With your income level you'll probably get close to the max. Just make sure you understand all the requirements to keep receiving benefits.

•Good luck with your claim! The process can be frustrating but the benefits really help when you need them.
