Washington state doesn't discriminate based on criminal history for unemployment benefits. You earned those benefits through your work and payroll contributions. As long as you meet the standard eligibility requirements, you should be approved.
Just want to add that you should also look into any job training programs available through WorkSourceWA. Sometimes they have special programs for people with criminal backgrounds that can help with job placement.
I helped my dad file his claim last month after he got laid off from his job of 15 years. The process was actually pretty straightforward once we got started. The hardest part was gathering all his employment history information. Make sure you have contact info for all your employers from the past 18 months before you start.
Just want to echo what others have said about that Claimyr service - I used it when I couldn't get through to ESD about a payment issue and it actually worked. Sometimes you just need to talk to a real person and the regular phone lines are impossible.
One more thing to keep in mind - if you received unemployment benefits in multiple states, you'll get separate 1099-G forms from each state. Just want to make sure people don't miss any income when filing taxes.
One more thing - if you end up disagreeing with Washington ESD about your benefit amount, you can request a fact-finding interview before it goes to a formal appeal. Sometimes they can resolve calculation errors or missing wage issues through that process.
Thanks everyone for all the detailed info! This has been super helpful. I feel much more confident about filing my claim now that I understand how the benefit calculation works and what to expect. Sounds like with my salary I should get a decent weekly amount, at least enough to cover my essential expenses while I job search.
And remember that Claimyr service if you need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD quickly. Made my whole experience way less stressful.

when you do get approved make sure to file your weekly claims on time every week or you'll lose benefits for those weeks

•You can file any day of the week but Sunday-Tuesday tends to have fewer technical issues.

Bottom line: look for determination letter, weekly benefit amount showing in your account, and ability to file weekly claims. Those are the main signs you're approved. If you're still unsure after 3 weeks, definitely try calling or using one of those services to get through to an agent.

•Perfect summary, thank you! I'll keep watching for those signs and try Claimyr if I don't hear anything soon.

•That's exactly what I'd recommend. The Claimyr service really does work well for getting quick answers when you can't wait anymore.
