How do I contact Washington ESD unemployment office - phone keeps hanging up
I've been trying to contact Washington ESD for weeks about my unemployment claim and I can't get through to anyone. Every time I call the main number I either get a busy signal or it hangs up after being on hold for hours. I need to talk to someone about my weekly claim that got flagged for some reason but there's no explanation in my account. Has anyone figured out how to actually reach a human at unemployment? This is so frustrating.

•It's crazy how impossible it is to reach them. My rent is due and I have no idea what's wrong with my claim.

•Try calling right at 8am when they open, sometimes you can get through then

The phone system is definitely overwhelmed. I usually try calling multiple times throughout the day. The main Washington ESD customer service number is 800-318-6022. You can also try the technical support line at 855-682-0785 if it's an account access issue.

•I've tried both those numbers dozens of times. The 800 number just hangs up and the tech support one says they can't help with claim issues.

•Yeah the tech line is only for login problems. For claim issues you need the main line or try the online messaging system in your account.

I had the same exact problem last month - couldn't get through no matter what I tried. Someone told me about this service called Claimyr that actually gets you connected to Washington ESD agents. I was skeptical but tried it and got through to someone in like 20 minutes. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo that explains how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ

•Is this legit? How much does it cost?

Kayla Morgan
•Yeah it's real - basically they handle the calling and waiting for you then connect you when they get an agent on the line. Way better than sitting on hold for hours yourself.

•I've heard of this too but haven't tried it yet. Anything is better than the current system.

What specific issue are you having with your weekly claim? Sometimes you can resolve things through the online account without needing to call.

•It just says 'under review' but doesn't give any details. I reported my work hours like always but something triggered a flag.

Lindsey Fry
•That usually means adjudication - they're reviewing something about your eligibility. Could be the hours you reported or they might need to verify your job search activities.

Try the secure messaging in your Washington ESD account. Sometimes they respond faster to those than phone calls.

•I sent a message 5 days ago and haven't heard anything back.

•Messages can take 7-10 business days for a response unfortunately. Phone is still faster if you can get through.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! I've been waiting 3 months for my appeal hearing and can't get anyone to tell me when it's scheduled. This is ridiculous.

•Appeals are taking forever right now. My friend waited 4 months for hers.

•Appeal hearings are handled by a different department - Office of Administrative Hearings. You might need to contact them directly.

I had good luck calling the Tacoma WorkSource office directly. They can sometimes help with basic claim questions and might be able to transfer you to someone at Washington ESD.

Lilly Curtis
•Do you have the number for that?

James Maki
•253-798-7000 for Tacoma WorkSource. They can't handle everything but might be able to point you in the right direction.

just keep calling over and over, thats what i did and eventually got thru after like 200 calls

Lilly Curtis
•200 calls?! That's insane. There has to be a better way.

Saleem Vaziri
•That's unfortunately pretty normal. The system is designed to handle way fewer calls than they actually get.

Since your claim is flagged for review, you're probably looking at adjudication which can take 4-6 weeks to resolve. The good news is if it gets approved, you'll get backpay for all the weeks you were waiting.

Lilly Curtis
•4-6 weeks?! I can't wait that long. I need to talk to someone now to see if there's anything I can do to speed it up.

•I understand the urgency. That's exactly why so many people are using services like Claimyr to actually get through to agents who can check the status.

Have you tried calling from different phones? Sometimes certain numbers get blocked or deprioritized in their system.

•That's interesting - I've only been calling from my cell phone. Maybe I should try a landline.

•I doubt that makes a difference but worth a shot I guess.

For what it's worth, I've seen people have success with Claimyr when they really need to reach Washington ESD urgently. It's not free but if you're facing eviction or utilities getting shut off, it might be worth it to get answers quickly.

•How does it work exactly? Do they just call for you?
0 coins
Saleem Vaziri
•From what I understand, they handle all the dialing and waiting, then call you back when they have an agent ready to talk. Saves you from sitting on hold all day.

I work in customer service and the volume they're dealing with is probably 10x what their system can handle. No excuse for how bad it is but explains why it's so hard to get through.

Lilly Curtis
•That makes sense but it doesn't help me pay my bills while I wait.

Rachel Tao
•Absolutely - just trying to explain why the system is so overwhelmed. Doesn't make it any less frustrating.

Try calling the Seattle office directly at 206-618-0797. Sometimes the regional offices are less busy than the main line.

Lilly Curtis
•Thanks! I'll try that number tomorrow morning.

Lindsey Fry
•Regional offices usually just redirect you back to the main customer service line for claim issues.

honestly at this point id rather just go to the office in person but they dont even do that anymore since covid

•Yeah, most Washington ESD offices are appointment-only now and mainly for WorkSource services, not unemployment claims.

Roger Romero
•You can still make appointments for certain issues but they're booking weeks out.

What about contacting your state representative? Sometimes they can help with government agency issues.

Lilly Curtis
•That's a good idea. Do you know how to find out who represents my district?

Anna Kerber
•Go to the Washington State Legislature website and use their district finder tool. Your rep might have staff who deal with constituent services.

I used Claimyr last week and got connected in 45 minutes. The agent was able to see exactly what was holding up my claim and fixed it on the spot. Wish I'd known about it sooner instead of wasting weeks trying to call myself.

•That's exactly what I need - someone who can actually see what's wrong with my claim. I'm going to check out that video demo.

•Worth every penny considering how much time and stress it saved me. Check their website for current pricing.

Try calling right after lunch around 1:30pm - sometimes there's a brief window when hold times are shorter.

Lilly Curtis
•I'll try that today. I've been calling in the mornings mostly.

•Afternoons can be better but still no guarantee. The whole system needs an overhaul.

check your email for any notifications from Washington ESD - sometimes they send requests for additional information there

Lilly Curtis
•I've been checking but nothing new. Just the usual weekly claim reminders.

Lindsey Fry
•Also check your account messages in the online portal - they sometimes send correspondence there instead of email.

The whole phone system is a joke. I gave up and just used Claimyr after wasting two weeks trying to call. Got through immediately and the agent explained everything that was happening with my claim.

•That's the third person who's mentioned Claimyr. I'm definitely going to look into it.

Have you tried the live chat feature on the Washington ESD website? Sometimes that's faster than calling.
0 coins
Lilly Curtis
•I didn't know they had live chat! Where do I find that?
0 coins
Saleem Vaziri
•The live chat is mainly for technical issues with the website, not claim problems. But worth trying if you're having trouble accessing your account.
