How to get through to Washington ESD unemployment office - phone lines always busy
I've been trying to reach someone at Washington ESD for over two weeks now and I can't get through to anyone. Every time I call the main number I either get a busy signal or sit on hold for hours before getting disconnected. My weekly claim got flagged for some reason and I need to speak with someone to resolve it before I miss another payment. Has anyone figured out a way to actually talk to a real person at the unemployment office? I'm getting desperate here.

Same problem here! I've been calling for 3 weeks straight and can't get through. The phone system is completely overwhelmed.

I work in customer service and deal with high call volumes. The Washington ESD phone system gets slammed because everyone calls at the same times. Try calling at 11:30am or 2:15pm - those are typically lower volume times for government agencies.

•Thanks for the tip! I'll try those times tomorrow.

I've had success calling multiple times in a row. Sometimes you get through on the 15th or 20th try. It's annoying but it works eventually. Also try calling during lunch hours when there might be fewer people calling.

Sarah Ali
•I'll try the lunch hour thing. How long did you usually have to wait once you got through?

•Usually about 45 minutes to an hour on hold, but at least you're in the queue at that point.

I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD when I was having the same problem. They basically call for you and get you connected to an agent. Saved me hours of frustration trying to get through myself. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

Another trick is to use the callback feature if Washington ESD has one available. Some people don't know about it so the wait times are shorter than staying on hold.

Diego Mendoza
•I didn't know they had a callback option. How do I access that?

•When you call, listen carefully to the menu options. Sometimes there's an option to request a callback instead of waiting on hold.

The trick is to call exactly at 8:00 AM when they open. Set multiple alarms and be ready to dial the second it hits 8. I've gotten through several times this way, though you still might wait on hold for a while.

The phone system is completely overwhelmed right now. I've been helping people with Washington ESD issues for years and it's never been this bad. Your best bet is to call exactly at 8:00 AM when they open - not 8:01, but right at 8:00. Use the main number 800-318-6022 and keep hitting redial if you get the busy signal. Sometimes it takes 50+ attempts but you'll eventually get in the queue.
0 coins
AstroAlpha
•I tried that but even when I get in the queue it disconnects after 2 hours of waiting

•That's the frustrating part - the system times out. Try calling multiple times throughout the day, not just morning.

Here are some practical tips that have worked for others: 1) Call exactly at 8:00 AM when they open, 2) Try calling on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (Mondays and Fridays are busiest), 3) Have all your information ready including SSN and claim confirmation number, 4) Don't hang up if you get hold music - sometimes it takes 2+ hours but you will eventually get through.

This is exactly why I ended up trying Claimyr when my claim got stuck in adjudication for 6 weeks. I was spending 3-4 hours a day trying to call Washington ESD with no luck.
