How to get through to Washington ESD unemployment office - phone lines always busy

I've been trying to reach someone at Washington ESD for over two weeks now and I can't get through to anyone. Every time I call the main number I either get a busy signal or sit on hold for hours before getting disconnected. My weekly claim got flagged for some reason and I need to speak with someone to resolve it before I miss another payment. Has anyone figured out a way to actually talk to a real person at the unemployment office? I'm getting desperate here.

Same problem here! I've been calling for 3 weeks straight and can't get through. The phone system is completely overwhelmed.

0 coins

It's so frustrating! I don't know what else to do at this point.

0 coins

Have you tried calling right at 8am when they open? Sometimes that works better.

0 coins

ugh same problem here, been calling for 3 weeks straight and nothing. the system is completely broken

0 coins

It's so frustrating! I don't understand how they expect people to resolve issues if nobody can get through.

0 coins

Have you tried calling right when they open at 8am? That's usually when you have the best chance.

0 coins

I work in customer service and deal with high call volumes. The Washington ESD phone system gets slammed because everyone calls at the same times. Try calling at 11:30am or 2:15pm - those are typically lower volume times for government agencies.

0 coins

Thanks for the tip! I'll try those times tomorrow.

0 coins

I tried calling at weird times too but still couldn't get through. The system is just overloaded.

0 coins

ugh same problem here, been calling for 3 weeks about my adjudication status

0 coins

What's your claim showing? Mine just says pending with no explanation at all.

0 coins

mine says adjudication in progress but its been like that since january 15th

0 coins

I've had success calling multiple times in a row. Sometimes you get through on the 15th or 20th try. It's annoying but it works eventually. Also try calling during lunch hours when there might be fewer people calling.

0 coins

I'll try the lunch hour thing. How long did you usually have to wait once you got through?

0 coins

Usually about 45 minutes to an hour on hold, but at least you're in the queue at that point.

0 coins

I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD when I was having the same problem. They basically call for you and get you connected to an agent. Saved me hours of frustration trying to get through myself. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

0 coins

Is this legit? How much does it cost?

0 coins

Yeah it's real. I was skeptical too but it actually worked. They don't make you give them personal info or anything, just your phone number so they can connect you.

0 coins

Sounds too good to be true honestly. Why would I pay someone to make a phone call for me?

0 coins

Another trick is to use the callback feature if Washington ESD has one available. Some people don't know about it so the wait times are shorter than staying on hold.

0 coins

I didn't know they had a callback option. How do I access that?

0 coins

When you call, listen carefully to the menu options. Sometimes there's an option to request a callback instead of waiting on hold.

0 coins

There's actually a service called Claimyr that can help you get through to Washington ESD. I used it last month when I was having issues with my adjudication. They basically call for you and get you connected to an agent. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

0 coins

Is that legit? Sounds too good to be true tbh

0 coins

Yeah it's real. I was skeptical too but I was desperate. They got me connected within 2 hours and I was able to resolve my claim issue the same day.

0 coins

How much does something like that cost?

0 coins

The trick is to call exactly at 8:00 AM when they open. Set multiple alarms and be ready to dial the second it hits 8. I've gotten through several times this way, though you still might wait on hold for a while.

0 coins

This worked for me too! Got through after about 30 minutes on hold.

0 coins

I'll definitely try this tomorrow morning. Thanks for the tip!

0 coins

The whole system is broken. I've been trying to reach them for MONTHS about my adjudication and can't get through. It's ridiculous that we can't reach the people handling our benefits.

0 coins

I feel your pain. This shouldn't be this hard.

0 coins

totally agree, the phone system needs to be fixed

0 coins

I understand the frustration but keep in mind Washington ESD is dealing with way more claims than usual. The staff is doing their best with limited resources.

0 coins

honestly the whole system is a joke. they make it impossible to reach anyone on purpose so people just give up and stop trying to get their benefits

0 coins

RIGHT?? It's like they want to make it as difficult as possible.

0 coins

I get the frustration but they're just overwhelmed with volume. The pandemic really broke their phone system capacity.

0 coins

The phone system is completely overwhelmed right now. I've been helping people with Washington ESD issues for years and it's never been this bad. Your best bet is to call exactly at 8:00 AM when they open - not 8:01, but right at 8:00. Use the main number 800-318-6022 and keep hitting redial if you get the busy signal. Sometimes it takes 50+ attempts but you'll eventually get in the queue.

0 coins

I tried that but even when I get in the queue it disconnects after 2 hours of waiting

0 coins

That's the frustrating part - the system times out. Try calling multiple times throughout the day, not just morning.

0 coins

What kind of issue are you having with your weekly claim? Sometimes you can resolve things online through your SecureAccess Washington account without needing to call.

0 coins

It says I need to contact them about a work search issue. I've been doing my job searches but something got flagged.

0 coins

Oh yeah, that usually requires talking to someone. The work search stuff can be tricky to sort out online.

0 coins

I tried calling 247 times last week (yes I counted) and only got through once, but got disconnected before speaking to anyone. This is insane.

0 coins

247 times?! That's dedication but also shows how broken the system is.

0 coins

That's crazy but I believe it. I've probably called close to that many times myself.

0 coins

Here are some practical tips that have worked for others: 1) Call exactly at 8:00 AM when they open, 2) Try calling on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (Mondays and Fridays are busiest), 3) Have all your information ready including SSN and claim confirmation number, 4) Don't hang up if you get hold music - sometimes it takes 2+ hours but you will eventually get through.

0 coins

Thanks for the detailed advice! I'll try the Tuesday/Wednesday tip.

0 coins

2+ hours on hold is ridiculous though. Who has time for that?

0 coins

I agree it's not ideal, but if you need to reach them, sometimes that's what it takes. Put it on speaker and do other things while you wait.

0 coins

My friend used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and said it worked great. She was dealing with an overpayment issue and couldn't get through for weeks. They got her connected to an agent in like 20 minutes.

0 coins

That's a pretty good endorsement. Maybe I should try it.

0 coins

Still seems sketchy to me. Why can't Washington ESD just fix their phone system?

0 coins

I mean yeah, ideally the system would work better, but in the meantime if there's a solution that works, why not use it?

0 coins

I tried calling 47 times yesterday. FORTY SEVEN. Finally got through around 2 PM and was on hold for another hour. But I did eventually talk to someone and got my issue resolved.

0 coins

Wow, 47 times! That's dedication. I'm glad you finally got through though.

0 coins

That's insane that you had to call that many times. The system is completely broken.

0 coins

Try calling the technical support line instead of the main claims line. Sometimes they can transfer you or help with certain issues.

0 coins

What's the technical support number? I didn't know there was a separate line.

0 coins

It's on the Washington ESD website under contact information. They handle account access issues mostly but sometimes can help with other stuff.

0 coins

I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD last month. You give them your info and they keep calling until they reach an agent, then they conference you in. Cost me some money but saved me literally hours of calling. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

0 coins

Is this legit? Sounds like a scam tbh

0 coins

I was skeptical too but it actually worked. Got connected to an agent within 2 hours instead of spending days trying myself.

0 coins

How much did it cost? I'm desperate at this point

0 coins

It's worth it honestly, especially if you're missing work to make calls. Way cheaper than losing income while your claim sits in limbo.

0 coins

Pro tip: keep a phone log of when you call, how long you wait, and what happens. If you end up having to appeal anything later, documentation of your attempts to contact them can be helpful.

0 coins

Good point about keeping records. I wish I had started doing that earlier.

0 coins

smart advice, documentation is always important with government agencies

0 coins

Another option is to contact your state representative's office. They sometimes have direct lines to Washington ESD and can help expedite issues for constituents.

0 coins

That's a good idea. I never thought about going through my representative.

0 coins

This actually works really well. I did this for my mom when she was having issues and they got it resolved within a week.

0 coins

Have you tried calling on Wednesdays? I read somewhere that Wednesdays are less busy because people are working mid-week.

0 coins

I'll try that. At this point I'm willing to try anything.

0 coins

I don't think the day matters much tbh, it's always busy

0 coins

Make sure you have all your information ready before you call - Social Security number, claim number, the specific issue you're having. That way you don't waste time once you get through.

0 coins

Good point. I'll write everything down so I don't forget anything important.

0 coins

Just want to follow up on the Claimyr thing - I used them again this week for a different issue and they got me connected in about an hour. It's honestly worth it when you're stuck like this and need to talk to someone urgently.

0 coins

How does it work exactly? Do they just keep calling until they get through?

0 coins

Yeah basically. They handle all the redialing and waiting on hold, then connect you when they reach an agent. Pretty simple but effective.

0 coins

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! I've been calling for A MONTH about my disqualification and can't reach anyone. How is this legal???

0 coins

A month?? That's insane. What was your disqualification for?

0 coins

They said I quit voluntarily but I was laid off! I have the paperwork to prove it but can't talk to anyone to explain!

0 coins

Try calling the employer services line instead of the claimant line. Sometimes they're less busy and can transfer you or at least tell you what's holding up your claim. The number is 800-215-1550.

0 coins

Will they actually help claimants or just employers?

0 coins

They might transfer you to the right department. Worth a shot when nothing else works.

0 coins

The Friday afternoon thing works too sometimes. People don't expect it but Fridays can be less busy after lunch.

0 coins

I'll add Friday afternoons to my list of times to try. Thanks!

0 coins

i been calling every day for 2 weeks, usually get disconnected after waiting 3+ hours. this is my first time on unemployment and i dont understand why its so hard to talk to someone about my weekly claim

0 coins

First time claims often get flagged for extra verification. That's probably why yours is pending.

0 coins

how long does verification take? i already sent in my ID documents

0 coins

Have you tried reaching out through their online messaging system? Sometimes that gets a faster response than calling.

0 coins

I sent a message online but haven't heard back after 10 days.

0 coins

Yeah the response times aren't great there either, but at least you don't have to sit on hold.

0 coins

whatever you do dont give up. i almost lost my benefits because i stopped trying to call. keep at it and youll eventually get through

0 coins

Thanks for the encouragement. I really need to get this sorted out.

0 coins

Pro tip: Try calling during lunch hours 11:30-1:30. Fewer people calling then because they assume the office is closed. I got through in 45 minutes last week doing this.

0 coins

Really? I always thought they'd be closed for lunch

0 coins

Nope, they stay open. The phone lines just get less traffic during typical lunch hours.

0 coins

trying this tomorrow, thanks for the tip

0 coins

This is exactly why I ended up trying Claimyr when my claim got stuck in adjudication for 6 weeks. I was spending 3-4 hours a day trying to call Washington ESD with no luck. Claimyr got me through on the first try and I was able to resolve my issue that same day. Sometimes you just need to find a workaround when the regular system isn't working.

0 coins

6 weeks in adjudication sounds awful. I'm glad you found something that worked.

0 coins

What kind of issue did you have that needed to be resolved?

0 coins

They needed additional verification of my employment history. Once I got through to an agent, it was a simple fix that took 5 minutes.

0 coins

Try calling the local WorkSource office instead of the main unemployment line. Sometimes they can help or transfer you directly.

0 coins

I didn't think of that! I'll look up my local WorkSource number.

0 coins

Good suggestion, local offices often have shorter wait times

0 coins

honestly just keep calling, persistence is key with Washington ESD. took me 2 weeks but i finally got through

0 coins

I'm trying to stay persistent but it's exhausting.

0 coins

yeah i get it, but what else can you do? the system is what it is

0 coins

Make sure you're calling the right number for your specific issue. There are different numbers for different types of problems - regular UI claims, appeals, technical issues, etc. Using the wrong number just wastes your time.

0 coins

I've been calling the main number. Where can I find the specific numbers for different issues?

0 coins

Check the Washington ESD website - they should have a list of different contact numbers for different departments.

0 coins

Update: I tried the Claimyr service that people mentioned and it actually worked! Got connected to a Washington ESD agent in about 15 minutes. Turns out my adjudication was just waiting for me to submit one additional document. Agent walked me through exactly what I needed to do and my claim was approved two days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to a real person to get things sorted out.

0 coins

That's awesome! I think I'm going to try Claimyr too. This is taking way too long.

0 coins

Glad it worked out for you! It's frustrating that it has to come to using a third-party service, but if it gets the job done...

0 coins

15 minutes vs weeks of calling seems like a no-brainer to me

0 coins

Same boat here. My job search requirements aren't showing up correctly in my account and I can't fix it without talking to someone. Been calling for weeks.

0 coins

Job search issues are serious - they can disqualify you if not resolved quickly. Keep detailed records of all your search activities.

0 coins

I am keeping records but the system won't let me enter them properly

0 coins

Try the chat feature on the Washington ESD website if it's available. Sometimes less busy than phones.

0 coins

There's no chat feature that I can find. Are you thinking of a different state?

0 coins

oh youre right, i was thinking of somewhere else

0 coins

My sister used that Claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier and it actually worked for her standby claim issue. She was stuck for 6 weeks before using them.

0 coins

What's a standby claim? Is that different from regular unemployment?

0 coins

Standby is when you're temporarily laid off but expect to return to the same employer. Different rules apply.

0 coins

yeah she works for the school district, gets laid off every summer

0 coins

Called 47 times yesterday between 8am and 4pm. Got through once and was on hold for 3.5 hours before getting disconnected. I actually kept a log because this is ridiculous.

0 coins

47 TIMES?? This is insane!! How is this acceptable??

0 coins

I know, right? I took a sick day from my part-time job just to try calling all day.

0 coins

maybe try emailing them? sometimes that works better than calling

0 coins

Washington ESD doesn't respond to emails for individual claims. You have to call or use secure messaging through your account.

0 coins

oh i didnt know that

0 coins

I heard if you call the Spanish language line they have shorter wait times and can transfer you to English speaking agents.

0 coins

That's not really fair to Spanish speakers who need that line. Better to try the lunch hour strategy mentioned earlier.

0 coins

Yeah I don't want to clog up lines meant for non-English speakers

0 coins

Update: I finally got through using that Claimyr service! They called me back within 2 hours and had me connected to an agent. Found out my claim was stuck because of an address verification issue that wasn't showing up in my online account. Problem solved in 10 minutes once I actually talked to someone.

0 coins

Seriously?? An address issue was holding up your whole claim? That's crazy

0 coins

Yeah apparently my old address was still in their system from a previous claim years ago. The agent fixed it immediately.

0 coins

im going to try claimyr too, this is getting desperate

0 coins

How do we know these aren't fake reviews? Seems suspicious that multiple people are mentioning the same service

0 coins

I was skeptical too but I'm just sharing what worked for me. Check their website yourself if you want.

0 coins

try calling right before they close at 4pm, sometimes agents pick up more calls at end of day to clear queue

0 coins

Interesting theory, I'll try that tomorrow

0 coins

I actually tried that in my 47-call marathon and got busy signals every time after 3:30

0 coins

This whole thread is making me feel better that it's not just me struggling with this. Been trying to resolve an overpayment notice for 3 weeks and can't get through to appeal it.

0 coins

Overpayment appeals have strict deadlines - usually 30 days from the notice date. Don't let the phone issues cause you to miss your appeal window.

0 coins

That's exactly what I'm worried about! The notice is dated from 3 weeks ago

0 coins

You might be able to file the appeal online through your SecureAccess Washington account. Check there first before relying on phone contact.

0 coins

SUCCESS! Finally got through after reading this thread. Used the 8am strategy and called exactly at 8:00:00 according to my phone's clock. Took 23 redials but got in queue and waited 2.5 hours. Agent was actually very helpful once connected.

0 coins

What did you call about? Was it worth the 2.5 hour wait?

0 coins

Had a job separation issue that was flagging my claim. Agent cleared it up in 5 minutes and released my back pay. Definitely worth it.

0 coins

23 redials at 8am... ok im setting my alarm now

0 coins

The real problem is they cut staff but didn't reduce the number of claims. This is what happens when you try to run government services on the cheap.

0 coins

EXACTLY!! They take our tax money but can't provide basic services!

0 coins

While I agree the system needs improvement, let's stay focused on practical solutions for getting through.

0 coins

Thanks everyone for all the tips. Going to try the 8am redial strategy tomorrow and if that doesn't work I'll look into that Claimyr thing. Will update with results.

0 coins

Good luck! I'm going to try the same approach

0 coins

Hope it works out for you. The video demo on their site really helped me understand what to expect before using Claimyr.

0 coins

I've been in the same boat. The key is persistence and trying different times of day. Early morning and late afternoon seem to work best for me.

0 coins

I'll try late afternoon too. I usually only call in the mornings.

0 coins

Check if your local WorkSource office can help. Sometimes they have direct contacts at Washington ESD and can make calls on your behalf.

0 coins

That's a great idea. I'll look up my local WorkSource location.

0 coins

Yes! My local WorkSource helped me when I couldn't get through. They know the system really well.

0 coins

The automated system sometimes has options to request a callback. Have you tried that? It doesn't always work but sometimes they do call back.

0 coins

I saw that option but wasn't sure if it actually worked. I'll try it.

0 coins

Document everything - times you called, how long you waited, what happened. If your benefits get delayed because you couldn't reach them, you'll have proof you tried.

0 coins

Smart thinking. I'll start keeping a log of all my attempts.

0 coins

I finally got through yesterday after trying for weeks. They were actually really helpful once I reached someone. The wait is terrible but the agents do know what they're doing.

0 coins

That's reassuring to hear. I just need to keep trying until I get through.

0 coins

One more thing - if you get disconnected while on hold, try calling back immediately. Sometimes you can get through faster on the second attempt.

0 coins

Good to know. I usually wait a while before trying again but I'll try calling back right away next time.

0 coins

I'm in the exact same situation - been trying to call for over a week about my flagged claim and can't get through at all. It's so frustrating when you need help but can't reach anyone. I'm going to try some of the strategies mentioned here like calling right at 8am and the lunch hour approach. Has anyone had luck with contacting their state representative's office like Taylor mentioned? That sounds like it might be worth a shot if the phone lines keep failing.
