How do I get through to a person at Washington ESD unemployment office?
I've been trying to reach someone at Washington ESD for over two weeks now and I'm getting nowhere. Every time I call the main number I either get busy signals, sit on hold for hours just to get disconnected, or get stuck in that automated phone tree that goes in circles. My weekly claim got flagged for some reason and I can't certify online anymore. The website just says 'contact customer service' but that's impossible when you can't actually talk to anyone! Has anyone figured out a way to actually reach a real person at the unemployment office? I'm starting to panic because I can't afford to miss any more payments.

The phone system is absolutely brutal right now. I usually try calling right at 8am when they open - you have a slightly better chance but still might wait 2+ hours. Make sure you're calling the right number too: 800-318-6022 for general claims issues.

•I tried that but got disconnected after 90 minutes on hold yesterday. So frustrating.

•Same thing happened to me last week. The system just hangs up on you when it gets overloaded.

Try calling during lunch hours like 12-1pm. I know it sounds weird but sometimes the call volume drops a little then. Also clear your schedule because even if you get through you might be on hold for hours.

•That's actually smart advice. Most people probably don't think to call during lunch.

•I'll try that today, thanks for the tip!

I had the same problem for weeks until someone told me about Claimyr. It's a service that calls Washington ESD for you and connects you to an agent. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked - got through to someone in about 20 minutes. Check out claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Way better than spending entire days redialing.

•Is that legit? Never heard of paying someone to make phone calls for you.

•Yeah it's real. They basically have automated systems that keep trying the Washington ESD number until they get through, then they connect you to the agent. Saved me so much time and stress.

•That sounds too good to be true but I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.

The key is persistence and timing. I've gotten through a few times by calling exactly at 8:00:00 AM - not 8:01, but right when they open. Have multiple phones ready if you can and just keep redialing. It's like a lottery but eventually you'll win.

•This is what I do too. Set multiple alarms for 7:55 AM and have your phone ready to dial at exactly 8.

•The multiple phones idea is genius. I never thought of that.

•That's awful. Have you tried reaching out to your state representative? Sometimes they can help with Washington ESD issues.

•Go to the Washington State Legislature website and find your district. Most reps have staff who handle constituent services including ESD problems.

Try the live chat feature on the Washington ESD website if it's available. Sometimes it's easier to get help that way than calling.

•I looked for that but couldn't find a chat option. Are you sure they have one?

•Hmm maybe I'm thinking of a different state agency. Washington ESD might not have live chat.

What specific issue are you having with your weekly claim? Sometimes there are things you can fix yourself online without needing to call.

•It just says I need to contact customer service for eligibility verification. Won't let me certify at all.

Malik Johnson
•That usually means they need to verify your work history or identity. Unfortunately you probably do need to talk to someone for that.

•I had the same thing happen. Turned out they needed me to send in my ID documents through eServices.

I heard if you call the WorkSource number instead of the main ESD line sometimes they can transfer you or help with basic questions. Worth a shot?

•WorkSource is more for job search help though. They might not be able to handle claims issues.

The Washington ESD system is such a joke. I've been unemployed for 8 months and probably spent 100+ hours just trying to reach someone on the phone. How is this acceptable in 2025?

•It's criminal how they treat people who are already struggling financially.

•They really need to hire more staff or upgrade their phone system. This is ridiculous.

Update: I finally got through using that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. It took about 30 minutes and I was able to resolve my adjudication issue. The agent said my work history verification was stuck in the system and she pushed it through manually. Definitely recommend trying it if you're stuck.

For anyone still struggling - I keep a log of when I call and for how long. Best success rates seem to be Tuesday-Thursday between 8-9 AM and around 1-2 PM. Avoid Mondays and Fridays completely.

Has anyone tried emailing them? I know they say they don't respond to emails about claims but maybe it's worth a shot for simple questions.

One trick I learned - if you get the automated system, sometimes pressing 0 repeatedly will get you to a person faster than going through all the menu options.

•I tried that but it just hangs up on me when I press 0 too many times.

Really hoping they improve the phone system soon. This is affecting thousands of people who just need basic help with their claims. The stress of not being able to reach anyone makes unemployment even worse than it already is.

I'm dealing with the exact same nightmare right now. Been trying to reach someone for 3 weeks about a pending issue and it's like they don't want to help people. Reading through these comments though, it sounds like that Claimyr service might be worth trying - several people here have had success with it. The idea of paying someone to make phone calls seems weird but honestly at this point I'd pay anything to just talk to a human being. Going to check out that YouTube demo video someone posted and see if it's legit. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, at least I know I'm not alone in this mess.

•You're definitely not alone! I'm in the same boat - been trying to get through for weeks about my claim that suddenly got flagged. The whole system seems designed to exhaust people into giving up. I'm seriously considering that Claimyr service too after seeing all these success stories. It's frustrating that we have to pay a third party to access our own unemployment benefits, but if it actually works it might be worth it. Let me know how it goes if you try it!

•Same situation here - my claim got flagged out of nowhere and I can't certify online anymore. The automated system just keeps telling me to call customer service but that's impossible when no one answers! I've been reading through all these comments and it's crazy how many of us are dealing with this. The Claimyr thing does seem to be working for people based on what I'm seeing here. I'm honestly at the point where I'd rather pay someone to get through than spend another week of my life on hold just to get disconnected. This whole system is broken and it's affecting real people who need these benefits to survive.

I've been in this exact situation for the past month - my claim got flagged for "additional review" and I can't certify online anymore. The phone situation is absolutely maddening. I've tried everything mentioned here: calling right at 8am, calling during lunch, using multiple phones, the 0 button trick - nothing consistently works. I'll sit on hold for 3+ hours just to get disconnected, or the system will give me a busy signal before I even get in the queue. It's like they've designed the system to be as inaccessible as possible. After reading all these comments about Claimyr, I'm seriously considering it too. The fact that so many people are having success with it makes it seem legitimate, even though paying someone to make phone calls feels ridiculous. But when you're facing rent due in a week and can't access your own benefits, desperate times call for desperate measures. Has anyone here tried contacting their state legislators like someone suggested? That might be another avenue worth exploring.

•I totally feel your frustration - that "additional review" flag seems to be hitting so many people lately and it's like once you get flagged, you're stuck in limbo forever. I haven't tried contacting state legislators yet but that's actually a really good suggestion. At this point I'm willing to try anything - the traditional phone route is clearly not working for most of us. I'm probably going to give Claimyr a shot this week since so many people here have had success with it. It does feel wrong that we have to pay extra just to access benefits we're entitled to, but the alternative is potentially missing weeks of payments while sitting on hold indefinitely. Thanks for mentioning the legislator option though - I'm going to look into that as a backup plan too.

I just went through this exact same nightmare last month - my claim was stuck in "pending" status for weeks and I couldn't get through to anyone no matter what I tried. The phone system is completely overwhelmed and honestly seems broken by design. After reading about Claimyr in some forums, I decided to give it a shot even though I was skeptical about paying for something like that. It actually worked - got connected to an agent in about 45 minutes and they were able to resolve my issue that day. The agent told me their system had a glitch that was preventing my claim from processing automatically. I know it feels wrong to have to pay a third party just to access your own benefits, but when you're facing bills and can't afford to waste more weeks trying to get through on your own, sometimes you have to do whatever works. The mental stress relief alone was worth it for me. Hope this helps someone else who's stuck in the same situation.

•This is really encouraging to hear! I'm in the exact same boat right now with a claim that's been stuck for over two weeks. The fact that you got through in 45 minutes and actually resolved the issue gives me hope. I've been hesitant about trying Claimyr because it feels like we shouldn't have to pay extra for this, but you're absolutely right about the mental stress - I'm losing sleep over this and spending entire days just redialing the same number. Can I ask roughly how much the service cost? I'm trying to weigh the cost against potentially missing more weeks of benefits if I keep trying the traditional route.

•I'm in the exact same situation right now - claim stuck in pending for 3 weeks and I can't get through no matter what time I call. The stress is killing me and I'm running out of savings. After reading your success story and all the other positive experiences here, I think I'm going to try Claimyr today. It seems like multiple people have had real success with it, which gives me confidence it's not a scam. You're absolutely right that sometimes you just have to do whatever works - the traditional phone system is clearly broken and I can't afford to keep waiting indefinitely. Thanks for sharing your experience, it really helps to know there's actually a solution that works!

I'm going through the exact same frustration right now! My claim got flagged about 10 days ago and I can't certify online anymore - just keeps telling me to contact customer service which is impossible. I've tried calling at 8am sharp, during lunch hours, even late afternoon, and either get busy signals or sit on hold for hours before getting disconnected. •I'm in almost the exact same situation - claim flagged 2 weeks ago and completely locked out of online certification. The phone system is absolutely broken and it's causing so much stress on top of already being unemployed. I haven't tried contacting my state legislator yet but that's actually a really smart idea - several people mentioned it and it seems like they sometimes have more pull with government agencies. I'm also seriously considering the Claimyr option after seeing all these success stories. It's frustrating that we're forced to pay extra just to access our own benefits, but when you're facing bills and potentially missing weeks of payments, sometimes you have to do whatever actually works. Thanks for bringing up the legislator route again - I'm going to look up my representative today and try that alongside other options.
