How to get a hold of Washington ESD unemployment office - can't reach anyone!
I've been trying to reach the Washington ESD unemployment office for over two weeks now and I'm going crazy. My weekly claim got flagged for some reason and now I can't certify. I've called the main number probably 50+ times and either get busy signals or sit on hold for hours before getting disconnected. Tried calling first thing in the morning, during lunch, late afternoon - nothing works. The online messaging system hasn't gotten me any responses either. Does anyone know the secret to actually talking to a human being at Washington ESD? I'm starting to panic about my bills.

The phone system is absolutely overwhelmed right now. I've found that calling exactly at 8:00 AM when they open gives you the best shot, but even then it's not guaranteed. Make sure you're calling the right number - the UI customer service line is different from the general inquiry line.

•I've been calling 833-572-8400 - is that the right one? And yeah I've tried right at 8 AM but the line is already jammed by then.

•That's the correct number. The system gets flooded within minutes of opening unfortunately.

•At least you get hold music! Half the time I just get disconnected after waiting forever.

I had this exact problem last month when my claim went into adjudication. Spent days trying to call with no luck. Finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that basically calls for you and gets you connected to an actual agent. Sounds too good to be true but it actually worked - got through to Washington ESD within like 20 minutes. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ

•Wait is this legit? How much does it cost? Kinda sketchy to give a third party access to your unemployment stuff...

•I was skeptical too but you don't give them any personal info. They just dial the number repeatedly until they get through, then transfer the call to you. Way better than spending all day hitting redial.

•This might be worth trying at this point. I'm desperate and can't afford to keep missing work to sit on the phone all day.

Try calling the WorkSource offices instead - sometimes they can help with basic UI questions or at least point you in the right direction. Not all locations handle unemployment stuff but some do.

•Good idea, I'll look up my local WorkSource location. Anything is better than this phone nightmare.

•WorkSource helped me when I couldn't get through to Washington ESD directly. They at least explained what was happening with my claim.

The whole system is a joke. I've been trying to reach them about an overpayment notice that makes no sense and it's been THREE WEEKS. How are we supposed to resolve issues if we can't even talk to anyone???

•Same boat here - got a disqualification letter that I need to appeal but can't get through to understand what happened.

•For appeals you can actually submit the paperwork online through your SecureAccess account. Don't wait for phone contact if you have a deadline.

I've had success calling around 2-3 PM on Wednesdays specifically. Seems like there's less call volume then for some reason. Also make sure you're not calling during peak weekly claim filing times.

•Interesting, I'll try Wednesday afternoon. At this point I'll try any time that might work better.

•Wednesday afternoons worked for me too! Got through in about 45 minutes of trying.

Have you tried using the online messaging system through your eServices account? I know you said no response but sometimes they answer those faster than phone calls.

•I sent three messages over the past two weeks and haven't heard anything back. Maybe I'll try again with more specific details.

•The messaging system is hit or miss. Sometimes they respond in 2 days, sometimes never.

This is exactly why I used that Claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier. Saved me literally hours of my life. The Washington ESD phone system is designed to discourage people from calling I swear.

•How long did it take them to get you through? I'm considering it but want to know what to expect.

•It was maybe 25 minutes total? Way faster than me trying to call myself for days on end.

Try calling the dedicated adjudication line if your issue is claim-specific - sometimes that has shorter wait times than the general customer service number.

Miguel Ramos
•I didn't know there was a separate adjudication line! Do you have that number?

•I believe it's the same main number but there might be different menu options. Check the Washington ESD website for specific department numbers.

•Standby claims can be tricky - definitely worth getting actual agent help for those rather than trying to figure it out online.

I finally got through last week after trying for ages. The agent was super helpful once I reached them - resolved my job search requirement question in like 10 minutes. The hard part is just making contact.

•What time did you call and how long did you wait on hold?

•Called around 11 AM on a Tuesday, was on hold for about an hour and a half before someone picked up.

If your claim is stuck in pending status, you might also try reaching out to your state representative's office. They sometimes have contacts at Washington ESD that can help expedite things.

•That's actually a good idea - elected officials' offices often have better luck getting through to agencies than regular citizens do.

•Never thought of contacting my rep about this. Worth a shot at this point!

Keep trying but also document everything - when you called, how long you waited, what happened. If you need to appeal or escalate later, having that record helps show you made good faith efforts to resolve it.

•Good point about documentation. I've been so frustrated I wasn't keeping track but I should start.

Update: I tried the Claimyr service and it actually worked! Got connected to a Washington ESD agent in about 30 minutes and got my weekly claim issue sorted out. Would definitely recommend if you're stuck like I was.

•Thanks for the update! I think I'm going to give it a try too. Can't be worse than what I'm dealing with now.

Just wanted to share another tip that worked for me - try calling around 4:30 PM on Fridays. I know it sounds random but I got through twice using this timing. I think a lot of people assume Friday afternoons are bad so there's actually less competition for the phone lines. Also, if you do get through to someone, be super polite and ask if there's a better time/number to call for future issues. Some agents will give you insider tips on when call volume is lighter. Hang in there everyone - the system is broken but don't give up!

•Friday afternoons at 4:30 PM - that's such a specific tip but it makes total sense! People probably think the office is winding down for the week. I'm going to try this tomorrow and see if it works. Really appreciate you sharing what actually worked for you instead of just the usual "keep trying" advice. Did the agents you talked to give you any other timing suggestions?
