How do I contact unemployment office - Washington ESD phone lines always busy
I've been trying to reach someone at Washington ESD for over a week now and I can't get through to anyone. Every time I call the main number I either get a busy signal or sit on hold for hours before getting disconnected. My weekly claim got flagged for some reason and I need to talk to an actual person to figure out what's going on. Is there a better time to call or a different number that actually works? This is so frustrating - I just need 5 minutes with someone to sort this out.

•Right?! And then after waiting 2 hours they just hang up on you. There has to be a better way.

•Try calling right when they open at 8am, that's usually your best bet for getting through

The main Washington ESD customer service line (833-572-8400) gets overwhelmed, especially Monday mornings and right after holidays. Best times are usually Tuesday-Thursday between 10am-2pm. You can also try the technical support line if it's a website issue.

•I've tried calling at different times but still can't get through. Is there any other way to contact them?

•You can send messages through your eServices account but they take forever to respond, like 2-3 weeks

I actually found something called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD when I was stuck in the same situation. It's a service that basically keeps calling for you and connects you when they get an agent on the line. Saved me hours of redialing and waiting. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Never heard of that before, is it legit? Sounds too good to be true

•Yeah it's real, I was skeptical too but it actually worked. Way better than sitting there hitting redial all day

•How much does something like that cost though?

Before you try any paid services, make sure you've exhausted the free options. You can also try calling the employer hotline sometimes - if your issue is related to work separation they might transfer you to the right department.

•What's the employer hotline number? My issue is about job search requirements so maybe that would work

Derek Olson
•It's 855-682-0020 but they're pretty strict about only helping with employer-related questions

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! I've been trying to reach them for WEEKS about an overpayment notice that makes no sense. They want me to pay back $2800 but won't explain why. How are we supposed to resolve anything if we can't talk to anyone?

Danielle Mays
•For overpayment issues you need to request an appeal within 30 days of the notice. Don't wait too long on that.

Seraphina Delan
•I KNOW that but I need to understand what the overpayment is for before I can appeal it properly!

I keep seeing people mention calling early in the morning but honestly I think that makes it worse because everyone has the same idea. I've had better luck calling around 2-3pm on Wednesdays.

•Really? I would think afternoon would be busier. I'll try that tomorrow

•Wednesday afternoons can work well, you're right. Monday mornings are definitely the worst time to call

just keep trying, took me like 50 calls over 2 weeks but i finally got through

Sayid Hassan
•50 calls?! That's insane. There's got to be a better way than that

Jabari-Jo
•yeah it sucks but what else can you do, they hold all the cards

Here are some additional strategies: Try calling different numbers depending on your specific issue. The adjudication line (for fact-finding) is sometimes less busy than the main line. Also, if you get disconnected, try calling back immediately - sometimes you'll get placed in a shorter queue.

Sayid Hassan
•What's the adjudication line number? My claim has been in adjudication for 2 weeks

Danielle Mays
•The main number routes to adjudication, but you can ask to be transferred directly when you get through

Kristin Frank
•adjudication took 6 weeks for my claim, just be patient and keep filing your weekly claims

This reminds me of when I had to call about my standby status getting messed up. Spent days trying to get through. Finally someone told me about that Claimyr thing and it got me connected in like 30 minutes. Worth every penny when you're stressed about your benefits getting cut off.

Sayid Hassan
•30 minutes?! That's amazing compared to what I've been dealing with. I might have to try that

Niko Ramsey
•How does it work exactly? Do they just keep calling until they get through?
0 coins
Micah Trail
•Yeah basically, they handle all the redialing and waiting, then call you when they have an agent ready to talk

I tried calling during my lunch break every day for a week and finally got through on Friday at 12:30pm. Maybe try calling during typical lunch hours when fewer people are calling?

Sayid Hassan
•That's actually smart thinking. I'll try calling around noon tomorrow

Roger Romero
•lunch time calling makes sense, most people probably call before work or after work

Does anyone know if the local WorkSource offices can help with Washington ESD issues? I have one near me and wondering if it's worth going in person.

Danielle Mays
•WorkSource can help with some things like job search requirements and workshops, but for claim-specific issues you usually need to contact Washington ESD directly

The hold times are absolutely ridiculous. I sat on hold for 4 hours yesterday just to have them hang up on me at 4:59pm when they closed. FOUR HOURS WASTED!
0 coins
Rachel Tao
•omg that happened to me too! got disconnected right at closing time after waiting all afternoon
0 coins
Derek Olson
•That's why you need to call early enough to get through before they close. They stop taking new calls about an hour before closing

I've been using the callback feature when it's available but half the time they never call back. Anyone else having issues with that?
0 coins
Sayid Hassan
•Wait, there's a callback feature? How do you access that?
0 coins
Marcus Marsh
•Sometimes when you call it gives you an option to request a callback instead of waiting on hold, but it doesn't always work
0 coins
Danielle Mays
•The callback system is inconsistent. They're supposed to call within 2 business days but it often takes longer

Honestly at this point I just keep my phone on speaker and do other stuff while waiting on hold. Set a timer so you know how long you've been waiting.

Sayid Hassan
•That's what I've been doing but my phone battery dies after a couple hours

•Yeah you definitely need to stay plugged in. It's ridiculous we have to do this but that's the reality

Just wanted to update everyone - I tried that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and it actually worked! Got connected to an agent in about 45 minutes and was able to resolve my weekly claim issue. Definitely recommend it if you're stuck like I was.

•Thanks for the update! I think I'm going to give it a try. Can't keep wasting entire days trying to get through

•Glad it worked for you. I'm still a bit hesitant about using a third-party service but if it saves that much time...

pro tip: if you get through and they say they need to transfer you, ask them to stay on the line until the transfer goes through. otherwise you might get disconnected and have to start over
0 coins
Sayid Hassan
•Good advice! I never would have thought to ask that
0 coins
Derek Olson
•Yes, always ask for a warm transfer. Cold transfers fail way too often with their phone system

Are there any specific days of the week that are better for calling? I feel like Mondays are always a nightmare.
0 coins
Danielle Mays
•Tuesday through Thursday are generally better. Mondays are busy with weekend issues and Fridays people rush to call before the weekend
0 coins
Maxwell St. Laurent
•That makes total sense. I'll avoid Mondays and Fridays from now on

Final thought - document everything! Keep track of when you called, how long you waited, if you got disconnected, etc. If you ever need to escalate or file a complaint, having that record helps.

Sayid Hassan
•That's really smart. I should have been doing that from the beginning

•Great advice. Also take notes during your call about what the agent tells you, including their name or ID number
