What number to call for Washington ESD unemployment - keep getting busy signals
I've been trying to call Washington ESD for two weeks now and can never get through. I dial the main customer service line but it's always busy or I get disconnected after waiting on hold for hours. My weekly claim got flagged for some reason and I need to talk to someone urgently. Does anyone know if there's a better number to call or a specific time when they're less busy? This is driving me crazy and I'm worried about missing payments.

The main number is 800-318-6022 but honestly it's a nightmare. I've had better luck calling right when they open at 8am but even then you might wait 2+ hours on hold.

•I tried that yesterday and got disconnected after 90 minutes. So frustrating!

•Same thing happened to me last month. The system seems to kick people off after a certain time.

There's also the claims center line at 800-318-6022 option 1, but it's the same overloaded system. Your best bet is to keep trying multiple times throughout the day. Some people have luck calling during lunch hours when call volume drops slightly.

•I heard Tuesdays and Wednesdays are supposedly less busy but I haven't noticed much difference honestly.

Have you tried using the secure messaging system on your ESD account? Sometimes that works better than calling, though responses can take 3-5 business days.

•I sent a message 6 days ago and still no response. My claim is stuck and I really need to talk to someone now.

•Yeah the messaging is hit or miss. When I had an adjudication issue it took them 2 weeks to respond to my message.

I found this service called Claimyr that actually helped me get through to Washington ESD. They handle the calling and waiting for you - you just get a callback when they reach an agent. Saved me hours of frustration. Check out claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Wait is that legit? How much does it cost?

•Yeah it's real, they don't ask for personal info upfront and it was worth it to finally talk to someone at ESD about my claim status.

•I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. Thanks for the tip!

The phone system is absolutely broken. I called 47 times last week (yes I counted) and got through ONCE only to be transferred to the wrong department and hung up on.

•47 times?? That's insane but I believe it. The system is completely overwhelmed.

•I feel your pain. I've been calling for 3 weeks about my adjudication and haven't spoken to a human yet.

If your claim is flagged, you might also try calling the adjudication unit directly, though I don't have that specific number. Sometimes different departments have shorter wait times.

•Do you know how to find department-specific numbers? The main website only lists the general customer service line.

•I think they're all routed through the same system now unfortunately. Used to be separate numbers but they consolidated everything.

Try calling exactly at 8:00:00 AM when they open. I set multiple alarms and speed-dialed the second it hit 8am. Still waited 45 minutes but at least I got through.

•This actually worked for me too! Had to call at exactly 8am three days in a row but finally connected on day 3.

•I'll try this tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed!

The whole system is a joke. They tell you to call but then make it impossible to actually reach anyone. Meanwhile your benefits get delayed and bills pile up.

•Exactly! It's like they designed it to discourage people from getting help.

•The system definitely needs improvement but hang in there, you'll eventually get through.

I had luck using that Claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier. Took about 30 minutes and they called me back when they reached an agent. Way better than sitting on hold for hours myself.

NeonNova
•How does it work exactly? Do they just call for you?

Emma Garcia
•Yeah they handle all the calling and waiting, then conference you in when they get through to ESD. Pretty clever actually.

Has anyone tried calling right before lunch like around 11:30am? I read somewhere that call volume drops then.

•I tried that last week and actually got through in about 20 minutes! Might have been lucky timing though.

•Worth trying different times of day for sure. The system seems random sometimes.

Whatever you do, don't hang up if you get put on hold. I made that mistake thinking the line was dead and lost my place in queue.

•Good advice! How long is too long to wait though? I've been on hold for 3+ hours before.

•I've waited up to 4 hours before. It sucks but sometimes that's what it takes to finally talk to someone.

The number is 800-318-6022 but good luck getting through. I call it the 'number that doesn't work' at this point.

•LOL that's exactly what I call it too. Such a broken system.

For what it's worth, once you do get through the agents are usually pretty helpful. It's just the getting through part that's nearly impossible.

•True, when I finally reached someone they sorted out my issue in 10 minutes. All that waiting for a quick fix.

•That gives me hope at least. I just need to get past the phone system somehow.

I'm dealing with the same thing - claim got flagged for identity verification and I can't get through to anyone. Been trying for 2 weeks straight.

NeonNova
•That's exactly my situation too! Identity verification flag and can't reach anyone to resolve it.

•You guys should definitely try that Claimyr service I mentioned. Perfect for situations like this where you really need to reach someone.

Try calling on Friday afternoons. I know it sounds weird but I got through twice on Fridays when I was desperate.

•Interesting theory! Maybe people give up by Friday and call volume drops.

•At this point I'll try any day and time. Thanks for the suggestion!

The real problem is they need more staff to handle calls. One number for the whole state is ridiculous.
0 coins
Olivia Harris
•Absolutely. They should have regional offices with separate phone lines.

Andre Laurent
•Budget constraints probably limit staffing unfortunately. The system wasn't designed for this call volume.

Keep trying the 800-318-6022 number but maybe look into that callback service too if you're really stuck. Sometimes you need multiple strategies.

•Yeah I think I'm going to try both approaches. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions!

UPDATE: Just wanted to say I tried that Claimyr thing and it actually worked! Got through to Washington ESD in about 45 minutes and they cleared up my identity verification issue. Worth every penny to avoid the phone hell.

The system is so broken but don't give up. I finally got through after 3 weeks of trying and they backdated my payments. Keep calling or find another way to reach them.

•Thanks for the encouragement! It's good to know they'll backdate payments if there are delays on their end.

Final update: Got through using Claimyr and they resolved my identity verification in 5 minutes. Wish I'd known about this service weeks ago! Thanks to everyone who suggested it.
