How to contact Washington ESD unemployment customer service - phone keeps hanging up
I've been trying to reach Washington ESD customer service for over a week now and I'm getting nowhere. Every time I call the main number, I either get a busy signal or it hangs up after being on hold for 30+ minutes. I need to talk to someone about my weekly claim filing - there's an issue with my work search activities that I can't resolve online. Has anyone figured out the secret to actually getting through to a real person at Washington ESD? I'm starting to panic because my claim might get denied if I can't get this sorted out.

•It's so frustrating! I thought maybe I was doing something wrong but sounds like it's happening to everyone.

•The call volume has been insane lately. Try calling right at 8am when they open, that's your best shot.

I've had success calling at exactly 8:00 AM when they first open. Set multiple alarms and be ready to dial the second it hits 8. Also try the callback option if it's available - sometimes that works better than staying on hold.

•Good tip about the 8am thing. Do you know if there are different numbers for different types of issues?

•The main customer service line handles most issues but there are separate numbers for appeals and overpayments. Check the Washington ESD website for the specific number you need.

I discovered something called Claimyr that actually got me through to Washington ESD in under 10 minutes. It's at claimyr.com and basically calls for you and holds your place in line. There's even a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Saved me hours of frustration honestly.

•That sounds too good to be true... does it actually work? I'm desperate at this point.

•Yeah I was skeptical too but it really did connect me. Worth trying if you're stuck like I was.

•Is there a cost for this service? Seems like something they'd charge for.

Washington ESD phone system is absolutely terrible. I've been unemployed for 2 months and probably spent 40+ hours just trying to get someone on the phone. It's like they don't want to help people.

•RIGHT?? It's like they're actively trying to make it impossible to reach them.

•I understand the frustration but remember they're dealing with thousands of calls daily. The system is overwhelmed but there are ways to get through.

Pro tip: If you're calling about work search requirements specifically, make sure you have your job search log ready and any documentation about the activities you completed. They'll want specifics about dates, employers contacted, and method of contact.

•This is exactly what I need help with! I did my job searches but the system won't let me enter one of them properly.

•That's a common glitch. The agent can manually enter it for you or override the system error. Just have all the details ready when you call.

tried calling 47 times yesterday (yes i counted) and got through exactly ZERO times. this is ridiculous

•47 times?? That's dedication lol. But seriously that's awful.

•desperation not dedication haha. bills dont pay themselves

For work search issues specifically, you can also try resolving some problems through the SecureAccess Washington portal. Go to your claim details and check if there's a work search section where you can make corrections or add missing entries.

•I tried that but there's no option to edit the entry that's causing problems. It just shows an error message.

•Then you definitely need to speak with an agent. They have backend access to fix those system errors.

Has anyone tried using the online messaging system? Sometimes that's faster than calling.

•I sent a message 2 weeks ago and still no response. Phone is probably faster if you can get through.

•Yikes, 2 weeks? That's not helpful at all.

Update: Used Claimyr again today for a different issue and got connected in about 8 minutes. The agent was able to fix my work search problem in like 2 minutes once I actually got through. Definitely recommend it if you're stuck in phone hell.

•Ok you've convinced me to try it. This is exactly the kind of issue I need help with.

•Does it work for all types of unemployment issues or just certain ones?

•It just gets you connected to a regular Washington ESD agent, so they can help with whatever you'd normally call about.

Another option is to try calling the WorkSourceWA offices in your area. They sometimes have direct lines to Washington ESD or can help resolve simpler issues without needing to call the main line.

•I didn't know WorkSource could help with unemployment claims. That's good to know.

•They can't do everything but for work search requirements and some basic claim questions, they're often easier to reach.

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I'm in the same boat and these tips are helpful.

•No problem! Hopefully we can all get through to someone soon.

The whole system is set up to discourage people from calling. It's intentionally frustrating so people give up and don't get the help they need.

•While I understand the frustration, it's more about being understaffed than intentionally discouraging calls. The demand is just much higher than their capacity.

Olivia Garcia
•Either way the result is the same - people can't get help when they need it.

I finally got through last week by calling at 7:58 AM and hitting redial immediately when it went to busy signal. Took about 15 tries but eventually got in the queue.

Evelyn Kim
•15 tries in 2 minutes? That's some serious speed dialing skills!

•You do what you gotta do lol. But yeah, persistence and perfect timing seemed to be the key.

For what it's worth, I tried that Claimyr thing someone mentioned and it did work. Got connected after about 12 minutes of waiting. The agent fixed my work search issue in under 5 minutes.

•That's two people now saying it works. I'm definitely going to try it.

•Same here. If it saves me from calling 50 times a day it's worth it.

Quick reminder for everyone: when you do get through, have your Social Security number, PIN, and all relevant documentation ready. The agents are efficient but they need specific information to help you quickly.

•Good point. I'll make sure to have everything organized before I try calling.

Final tip: if your issue is time-sensitive (like a claim about to be denied), make sure to mention that upfront when you get connected. Sometimes they can expedite certain problems.

Evelyn Kim
•That's exactly my situation. I'll definitely mention that when I get through.
