How do I contact Washington ESD unemployment by phone - getting disconnected constantly
I've been trying to reach Washington ESD for over a week about my claim status and I keep getting hung up on or can't even get through. The main number just plays a message saying high call volume and then disconnects. I need to talk to someone about why my weekly claim is showing as pending when I've been filing everything correctly. Has anyone figured out the best way to actually get through to a real person at Washington ESD? This is so frustrating!

•It's ridiculous! I have bills due and need to know what's going on with my claim.

•Try calling right at 8am when they open, sometimes you can get in the queue before it fills up.

The Washington ESD phone system has been overwhelmed lately. Best times to call are usually right when they open at 8:00 AM or during lunch hours around 12-1 PM when call volume might be slightly lower. Make sure you're calling the right number for your issue - general UI claims vs. appeals vs. technical support all have different lines.

•I've been calling the main 833-572-8400 number, is that right for checking claim status?

Reina Salazar
•Yes that's the correct number for general unemployment claims. Keep trying early morning, and have your SSN and claim information ready.

I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD when I was stuck in adjudication hell for 6 weeks. They basically call for you and wait on hold, then call you back when they get an agent on the line. Saved me hours of frustration. Check out claimyr.com - they have a demo video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ

•Never heard of that, does it actually work? Sounds too good to be true.

•Yeah I was skeptical too but I was desperate. They got me connected in like 30 minutes when I'd been trying for weeks on my own.

•How much does something like that cost though?

Pro tip: if you get disconnected, don't hang up immediately. Sometimes the system will put you back in queue automatically after a few seconds. Also clear your schedule when you call because even if you get through, you might be on hold for 2+ hours.

•Good to know about not hanging up right away, I've been doing that wrong!

•2 hours on hold is insane, no wonder people are looking for alternatives

I've been calling every day for 3 weeks and only got through once, just to be told they needed to transfer me and then got disconnected during the transfer. This system is broken.

•That happened to me too! So frustrating to finally get someone and then lose the call.

•When that happens, try calling back immediately and explaining you were just transferred and disconnected. Sometimes they can look up the call log.

What exactly is your claim showing as pending for? Sometimes you can resolve simple issues through the online system without needing to call.

Beatrice Marshall
•It just says 'pending' with no explanation. I filed my weekly claim on Sunday like always but it's not processed yet.

•Check if there are any alerts or action items in your eServices account. Sometimes there are verification requirements that aren't obvious.

Have you tried the live chat option? Sometimes that's faster than calling, though it's only available certain hours.

Beatrice Marshall
•I didn't know there was live chat! Where do I find that?

Mason Lopez
•On the Washington ESD website, look for 'Contact Us' and there should be a chat option during business hours.

•The chat is usually just for basic questions though, for claim-specific issues you'll probably still need to call.

I tried that Claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier and it actually worked! Got connected to Washington ESD in about 45 minutes. The agent was able to see that my claim was held up because of a small discrepancy in my work search log. Fixed it right on the call.

Beatrice Marshall
•Really? I might have to try that then. How does it work exactly?

•You just go to their website, put in your info and they call Washington ESD for you. When they get an agent they conference you in. Super simple.

•Okay that actually sounds legitimate. Might be worth it if it saves all this calling hassle.

The Washington ESD phone system is just overwhelmed. I work in customer service and I can tell you they're probably getting 10x more calls than they can handle. Doesn't make it less frustrating but explains why it's so hard to get through.

Melina Haruko
•That makes sense but they need to hire more people or something. People need their benefits.

Brielle Johnson
•Completely agree, the system needs more resources. In the meantime we're all stuck dealing with this mess.

Try calling the technical support line instead of the main claims line. Sometimes they can answer basic questions and the wait is shorter. Number is different though, you'll have to look it up on the Washington ESD website.

Beatrice Marshall
•Would tech support be able to tell me why my weekly claim is pending?

Honorah King
•They might be able to at least see what's causing the hold-up, even if they can't fix it directly.

I've been unemployed for 4 months and I swear I've spent more time trying to get through to Washington ESD than I have job searching. The whole system needs an overhaul.

Vera Visnjic
•That's the real problem - we're all wasting so much time on something that should be straightforward.

Oliver Brown
•Exactly! And meanwhile bills keep coming whether my claim gets processed or not.

Keep a log of every time you try to call with date and time. If your benefits get delayed because you couldn't reach them, that documentation might help with an appeal later.

Beatrice Marshall
•Good idea, I'll start doing that. Hopefully it doesn't come to needing an appeal though.

Mary Bates
•Hope not either, but better to have the documentation just in case.

Has anyone tried emailing them? I know it's probably slower but at least you get a response eventually.
0 coins
Dallas Villalobos
•Email responses can take 2-3 weeks from what I've heard. If it's urgent, calling is still your best bet.

Clay blendedgen
•Ugh, 2-3 weeks is way too long when benefits are on hold.

I'm going to try that Claimyr service tomorrow morning. At this point anything is better than spending all day redialing the same number. Will update if it works.

Make sure you have ALL your information ready before calling - SSN, claim number, last 4 of bank account, employment dates, etc. Nothing worse than finally getting through and then having to call back because you don't have something they need.

•Good point, I'll make sure to have everything written down first.

The 8am thing is real. I got through on my third try calling right at 8:00. Set an alarm and be ready to dial the second it hits 8.

Demi Lagos
•I tried that but still got the busy signal. Maybe I need to be even faster.

Carmella Popescu
•Yeah you have to be super quick. Have the number already dialed and just hit call right at 8:00.

Update: I tried Claimyr this morning and got connected to Washington ESD in 25 minutes! The agent was able to see that my pending claim was just waiting for ID verification which I could do right over the phone. Claim processed while I was still on the call. Game changer!

Beatrice Marshall
•That's amazing! I'm definitely trying them tomorrow. Thanks for the update!

Pro tip for anyone still trying the regular way: use speakerphone and do other things while you wait. Don't just sit there listening to hold music for hours, you'll go crazy.

Beatrice Marshall
•Good advice! Though at this point I think I'm going to try the Claimyr route.

For anyone reading this thread later - the main takeaway seems to be: try calling right at 8am, use Claimyr if you can't get through, and have all your info ready. Hope this helps someone else avoid the frustration we've all been through!
