Just remember that if you ever need to use the system, Washington ESD can be really difficult to reach by phone. Don't get discouraged if you can't get through right away. There are resources and services that can help you navigate the process.
WorkSource has counselors who can help, and there are services like Claimyr that specialize in helping people get connected to Washington ESD agents when the phone lines are jammed. The main thing is not to give up if you legitimately need benefits.
One more thing - if you're thinking about quitting your job, be aware that you generally can't get unemployment benefits if you quit voluntarily. You have to be laid off, fired for reasons other than misconduct, or quit for very specific 'good cause' reasons that Washington ESD recognizes.
Bottom line is to make sure you're taking advantage of all the Washington ESD resources available while looking for work. Don't just collect benefits - use the job search tools, training programs, and counseling services they offer.
Definitely. Some training programs can even extend your benefit eligibility while you're learning new skills that make you more employable.
And when you need to talk to Washington ESD about any of these programs or your claim status, don't forget there are services like Claimyr that can help you actually get through to someone instead of spending hours on hold.
Hope things turn around soon for everyone. This job market is definitely more challenging than it's been in a while. Stay positive and keep networking - sometimes opportunities come from unexpected places.
Interesting! My boss hasn't said anything about when hours might return to normal. I should probably ask about that before I file my claim.
One more thing - if you do win your appeal, Washington ESD will backdate your benefits to your original claim date. So even though this process sucks, you won't lose those weeks of benefits if you're ultimately found eligible.
I used Claimyr too when I was dealing with a disqualification issue. Being able to actually talk to a Washington ESD representative made all the difference in understanding what went wrong with my claim and what I needed to do to fix it.

Quick reminder that if you end up getting a second part-time job while collecting partial benefits, you still need to report ALL earnings on your weekly claims. Some people think they only report earnings from their main job.

•Good point - I'll make sure to report everything accurately if I find additional work.

•Exactly. Washington ESD can cross-reference with tax records so it's not worth trying to hide anything.

One last thing - make sure you understand the difference between being laid off completely versus having hours reduced. The requirements and processes can be slightly different even though both qualify for benefits.

•In my case it's definitely hour reduction not layoff. My employer made it clear I still have my job just fewer hours due to business being slow.

•Perfect - that's a straightforward partial unemployment situation. You should have no problem qualifying as long as the reduction was involuntary.
