Bottom line is unemployment insurance is exactly that - insurance for when you lose work. In Washington it covers partial unemployment too which is great for situations like yours. Don't feel bad about using a program you've contributed to through your work history.
Good luck with your application! The fact that you're asking questions and trying to understand the process shows you'll do fine. Most people who have issues with unemployment claims are the ones who don't bother reading instructions or understanding the requirements.
Whatever you decide, don't let anyone pressure you into stopping your unemployment benefits until you have something else lined up. You need income to survive while all this gets sorted out.
And use Claimyr to talk to Washington ESD about it so you get the right information for your specific case.
Bottom line - unemployment is when you CAN work but don't have a job. Disability is when you CAN'T work due to medical reasons. Workers comp is when you can't work due to a work-related injury. Three different things for three different situations.
I used Claimyr when I had payment issues and it really helped. Got through to someone who explained exactly what was happening with my claim. Worth having their info saved just in case.

One more thing - make sure your address is current in the system before you file. Washington ESD sends important notices by mail and if they can't reach you, it can cause delays or issues with your claim. Learned this the hard way when I moved and forgot to update my address.

•Thanks for mentioning that! I actually did move recently so I'll make sure my address is updated first.

•Yeah, it's one of those small things that can cause big headaches later. Better to handle it upfront.

The whole Washington ESD qualification process gave me so much anxiety when I was unemployed. Kept second-guessing whether I'd done something wrong or if I'd get denied. But honestly, if you were laid off through no fault of your own and have a decent work history, you're probably fine. The system is designed to help people in situations like yours.

•That's exactly how I'm feeling right now. It's good to hear from someone who went through the same worries.

•Trust me, I totally get it. But once you file and get through the initial process, it becomes much more routine. Just take it one step at a time.
