Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. I'm in a similar situation and this has been incredibly helpful for understanding the process.
Final thought - if anyone needs help getting through to ESD during their appeal process, I can't recommend Claimyr enough. Check out claimyr.com - they really take the frustration out of trying to reach the right people at Washington ESD when you have questions about your case.
Has anyone here ever qualified for a second unemployment claim? I'm wondering if it's worth trying to work part-time somewhere just to build up eligibility again.
Bottom line - 26 weeks is what you get in Washington, no extensions currently available, and you need to plan accordingly. I wish I had started looking at backup options earlier instead of assuming I'd find something in time.
Remember that LinkedIn is huge for job searching now. Make sure your LinkedIn profile explains any gaps professionally too, not just your resume. A lot of recruiters look there first.
Final thought - practice explaining your unemployment period out loud before interviews. I stumbled through this explanation in my first few interviews because I hadn't prepared for it. Now I have a concise, positive way to address it.
dont forget you need to keep filing your weekly claims every week even if you had issues with previous payments. i made that mistake once and had to restart my whole claim
Original poster, you should see your payment by Thursday at the latest assuming everything is processed normally. The Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday timeline is pretty reliable for first-time filers without complications.

washington esd really needs to fix their phone system. it's 2025 and you still can't reliably reach someone during business hours. at least the online filing works most of the time

•The online system has definitely improved over the past few years. I rarely have issues with the website anymore.

Remember that Washington State unemployment benefits are taxable income. You might want to elect to have taxes withheld from your payments to avoid a surprise tax bill next year.

•Good point about taxes. Is that something I set up during the initial application or later?

•You can set it up anytime through your online account. I'd recommend doing it early so you don't forget.
