PA UC payment says issued but nothing in my Chime account - will they send a card instead?
My PA unemployment claim was finally approved after weeks of waiting, and my payment status shows 'issued' as of March 28th. I set up direct deposit to my Chime account during the initial application, and the system still shows direct deposit as my payment method, but it's been 6 days with no money in my account! After digging around online, I found posts saying PA UC won't deposit to certain online banks like Chime (is this actually true??). I've already sent an email to UC but who knows when they'll respond. Has anyone else had this problem with Chime or similar online banks? Will they automatically send me a Money Network card instead? I've got bills piling up and need to know when I'll actually see this money.

OMG the EXACT same thing happened to me but with Current bank! My payment said issued for like 8 days and nothing showed up. They ended up mailing me the card without telling me. It just showed up in my mailbox about 10 days after the payment was 'issued'. So annoying bc I specifically signed up for direct deposit!!!

•Thanks for sharing! Did they ever explain why they ignored your direct deposit setup? I'm wondering if I should just wait for a card in the mail or try to call them about it.

•This is actually a common issue with online/fintech banks. PA UC system has issues with routing numbers from these newer banks, so payments often get rejected and returned to UC. When that happens, they automatically issue a Money Network debit card, but they're terrible about notifying people about the switch. You can check your payment method on your dashboard - if it changed from 'Direct Deposit' to 'Debit Card', then they're definitely sending you a card.

If your payment status shows 'issued' but you haven't received it, I recommend calling PA UC directly to check what's happening. They can verify if the direct deposit failed and was returned, or if it's still processing. Unfortunately, PA UC's system does have known compatibility issues with some online banks including Chime, Current, and sometimes even Cash App. When direct deposits fail, they typically default to sending a Money Network card, which takes 7-10 business days to arrive. If you need to reach an agent, I recently used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through after trying for days on my own. They have a system that helps you reach a real UC agent without endless busy signals. I was skeptical but their video demo (https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2) shows how it works. Got connected in about 20 minutes instead of spending days redialing.

•Thanks for the detailed info! I've been trying to call but keep getting busy signals or disconnected. I'll check out that service - at this point I just need to talk to someone to figure out what's going on with my money.

I had this same problem last year!!!!!! So frustrating. But not with Chime, I had Varo. The money never showed up and they NEVER sent me a card either!! I had to call like 20 times before I got someone who could help. Turned out they had the wrong routing number somehow even though I triple checked it when I entered it. They had to reissue the payment and it took almost 3 weeks to get my money. Check ur banking info on file!

•This is why I always recommend people avoid using online-only banks for their unemployment deposits. The PA UC system was built on ancient technology and hasn't been fully updated to work with these newer financial institutions. Traditional banks like PNC, Wells Fargo, etc. rarely have these issues. For the original poster - if it's been more than 5 business days since the issue date and your account still shows direct deposit as the payment method, you should definitely call. There might be a problem with your banking information that needs to be corrected before they can process the payment properly.

Here's what's likely happening: When a direct deposit fails or gets rejected by the receiving bank (which happens frequently with Chime and similar online banks), the PA UC system doesn't always update your payment method preference in the system immediately. That's why you still see 'Direct Deposit' listed. By policy, when a direct deposit fails, they automatically issue a Money Network debit card, which typically takes 7-10 business days to arrive. The frustrating part is that the system often doesn't notify claimants when this switch happens. I recommend taking two actions: 1. Call the Money Network card services number (1-888-233-5916) and check if a card has been issued in your name 2. Contact PA UC directly to confirm the status of your payment If you've already experienced a failed direct deposit, you might want to update your payment preferences to a different bank account once you resolve this current issue.

•Thank you so much for this detailed explanation. I'll try calling Money Network first thing tomorrow to see if they have a card being sent to me. Such a frustrating process! I wish the system would at least send an email notification when something like this happens.

Has anyone actually gotten a deposit successfully to Chime from PA unemployment? Or is it always rejected?

Just following up - were you able to find out what happened with your payment? Did calling Money Network help? I'm curious because this issue comes up so frequently with online banks.

•Update for anyone who has this problem in the future: I used that Claimyr service to get through to UC yesterday (took about 30 mins total) and found out they tried the direct deposit twice, it failed both times, and they mailed a Money Network card on April 2nd. Should arrive by next Tuesday. The agent said they've been having problems with several online banks including Chime, and suggested I switch to a traditional bank for future payments. Thanks everyone for your help!
