PA UC payments via Chime direct deposit - anyone having issues?
Has anyone switched their PA UC direct deposit to a Chime card/account? I've been getting my benefits on the Money Network card but the fees are killing me. Thinking about changing to my Chime account but nervous about delays or problems. My rent is due in 10 days and I CANNOT afford any payment hiccups. Does PA UC work smoothly with Chime or should I stick with what's working? Anyone made this switch recently?

I switched to Chime for my UC payments about 2 months ago and it's been working fine. Just make sure you enter your Chime account/routing numbers correctly on the PA UC portal. The first payment after switching might take an extra day to process - mine did - but after that initial transition, my payments have been coming in consistently every two weeks. The switch was definitely worth it to avoid those Money Network fees.

•Thanks for sharing your experience! Did you have to call UC to confirm the change went through, or did it just work automatically after you updated it online?

•Ugh, that's exactly what I'm worried about. Did you end up having to pay late fees on anything because of the delay?

I'm using Chime with no issues for over 6 months. Here's what you need to know: 1. When you change direct deposit info, PA UC system will put a 7-day hold on your payment for security reasons. This is standard procedure. 2. Make sure you verify your direct deposit info BEFORE saving changes - if you enter wrong numbers, fixing it can take weeks. 3. Chime sometimes posts UC payments up to 2 days earlier than traditional banks once everything is set up. 4. Keep your Money Network card active until you've successfully received at least one payment to Chime. Also, if you need to speak with someone at UC to confirm everything is correct, I recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent quickly. They have a good video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. Saved me hours of busy signals when I needed to verify my direct deposit change went through properly.

•This is super helpful - thank you! I had no idea about the 7-day hold, that's really important to know. I'll definitely keep my Money Network card active during the transition. Do you know if there's a specific day of the week that's better to make the switch?

DO NOT USE CHIME!!! My account got frozen when I switched my UC to Chime and it took 3 WEEKS to get my money!!! The PA system flagged it as potential fraud and I couldn't pay my rent!!! Had to borrow money from my sister. So humiliating.

•That sounds like an isolated incident. Did you recently open your Chime account? PA UC sometimes flags new accounts as potential fraud risks, but that's not specific to Chime - it's any new bank account that gets added shortly after being opened.

I've been using Chime for my PA unemployment for like 6 months now. No problems at all!! Way better than that stupid Money Network card!

Just be aware that ANY change to your direct deposit will trigger a review of your claim. It's not just about the direct deposit itself. If there are any open issues or unresolved questions on your claim, they might put a hold on everything until those are resolved. This happened to me when I switched from Bank of America to Chime last year. They suddenly "discovered" that they needed more information about my job separation from 3 months earlier. Took weeks to resolve. Before switching, log into your UC account and make sure there are no open issues or action items. If everything is clear, the switch should go smoothly. If you see any open issues, resolve those first before changing your deposit info.

•Oh wow, I hadn't thought about that. I just checked my portal and thankfully I don't have any open issues showing. Do you think it matters how long I've had my claim active before making a change? I've been on UC for about 4 months now.

•This is why I always recommend making any account changes early in the morning (before 9am) or late evening (after 7pm) when the system has less traffic. The PA UC website is notorious for timing out during peak hours.

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice! I'm going to wait until after my next payment hits the Money Network card, then make the switch to Chime on a Sunday evening when the website traffic should be lower. I'll double-check all my account numbers and make sure I don't have any open issues on my claim before making changes. I appreciate all your experiences - really helped me plan this carefully!

•Smart approach. One more tip: take screenshots of your confirmation page after making the change. PA UC's system sometimes doesn't send the confirmation emails it promises, and having those screenshots has saved many people headaches when trying to trace what happened with their direct deposit changes.

I made the switch from Money Network to Chime about 3 months ago and it's been smooth sailing. The key is timing - don't do it right before you need your payment! I waited until right after I got a payment, then made the change with plenty of buffer time. The 7-day security hold that @Brady Clean mentioned is real, so plan for that. Also, I called PA UC the day after making the change online just to confirm they received it correctly. Took forever to get through but gave me peace of mind. Overall, definitely worth it to avoid those Money Network fees - I'm saving like $15+ per month now.

•That's really smart to call and confirm after making the change online! I'm definitely going to do that too. Quick question - when you called, did they tell you right away that the change went through, or did you have to wait for it to process in their system first? I want to make sure I'm calling at the right time to actually get useful confirmation.

Just wanted to add my experience since I see mixed responses here. I switched from Money Network to Chime about 8 months ago and it's been mostly smooth. The first payment did take an extra 3 business days like others mentioned, but after that it's been reliable. One thing I haven't seen mentioned - make sure your name on your Chime account matches EXACTLY what's in the PA UC system. Even middle initials matter! I had to update my name in Chime because PA UC had my full middle name but Chime only had the initial, and that caused a delay. Also, Chime's customer service is way better than Money Network if you ever need help. When I had that name mismatch issue, they fixed it within 24 hours. Money Network used to take days to respond to anything. @Sophie Footman your plan sounds solid - waiting until after your next payment and doing it on a weekend evening is smart. Just have your Chime routing/account numbers ready and maybe even test logging into both systems beforehand to make sure everything works smoothly.

•This is such a helpful thread! @Andre Dupont that s'a great point about the name matching exactly - I wouldn t'have thought of that. I just double-checked and my names match perfectly between Chime and PA UC, so I should be good there. Thanks for mentioning Chime s'better customer service too - that alone makes me feel more confident about making the switch. The Money Network customer service has been absolutely terrible when I ve'needed help with anything.

I switched from Money Network to Chime for my PA UC payments about 5 months ago and it's been working great! The fees on Money Network were ridiculous - I was losing almost $20 a month between ATM fees and the monthly maintenance fee. A few things that helped me with the transition: 1. I made the change right after receiving a payment, giving myself a full two-week buffer 2. I kept detailed notes of exactly when I made the change and took screenshots of everything 3. I tested a small transfer to my Chime account first just to make sure the routing/account numbers were right The only hiccup I had was during the week of July 4th - my payment was delayed by one business day because of the holiday, but that would have happened with any bank. One bonus I wasn't expecting: Chime actually posts my UC payments about a day earlier than Money Network used to, so I usually get my money on Monday instead of Tuesday now. That early access feature has been a lifesaver for bill timing! If you're worried about the transition, maybe wait until right after your rent is due so you have maximum time buffer for the first Chime payment to come through?

•@Yuki Ito that s'a brilliant idea about waiting until right after rent is due! I didn t'think about timing it that way but you re'absolutely right - that would give me the maximum buffer time before my next rent payment. And wow, getting paid a day early with Chime sounds amazing. That alone would help so much with bill timing. Thanks for sharing all those practical tips about taking screenshots and testing the account numbers first - I m'definitely going to follow that checklist when I make the switch!

I made the switch from Money Network to Chime for my PA UC about 4 months ago and honestly wish I'd done it sooner! The Money Network fees were eating into my already tight budget every month. Here's what worked for me: I made the change on a Sunday night around 9 PM when the PA UC website was running smoothly, right after I'd received my regular payment. I kept my Money Network card active for about a month just to be safe. The 7-day security hold is real - my first Chime payment came exactly 7 days later than usual, but after that it's been like clockwork. Now I actually get my payments on Sunday evenings instead of Monday afternoons because of Chime's early direct deposit feature. Since your rent is due in 10 days, I'd honestly wait until after that payment to make the switch. Better to deal with the Money Network fees for one more cycle than risk any delays with rent money. Once you make the switch though, you'll save so much on fees - I'm saving about $18 per month now! Make sure you have your Chime routing and account numbers written down correctly and take screenshots of everything during the process. The PA UC confirmation emails don't always come through.
