PA UC benefits deposited to Chime account - earlier than Money Network card?
Hey everyone! I've been using the PA Money Network debit card for my unemployment benefits, but I'm thinking about switching to my Chime account for direct deposit. Does anyone get their PA UC payments deposited directly to Chime? I'm wondering if benefits hit Chime accounts earlier than the debit cards like regular paychecks do. Since we file on Sunday and it gets processed Monday, I'm not sure if it's even possible to get it any faster lol. The Money Network card is fine but sometimes the ATM fees add up. Any info would be super helpful!

I've been getting my UC payments on Chime for about 6 months now. In my experience, they DO come in slightly earlier than the Money Network card - usually Tuesday evening instead of Wednesday morning. Not a huge difference, but those few hours can matter when you're waiting on money for bills. Just make sure you update your direct deposit info correctly in your dashboard. It took about 2 weeks for the switch to fully process when I did it.

•Thanks for the info! Tuesday evening vs Wednesday morning would actually help me a lot. Did you have any issues during the transition period between switching from the card to Chime?

I tried switching to Chime and it was a DISASTER!!! My payments got lost for 3 weeks while they were "processing" the change. PA UC is the WORST at handling these changes. I ended up having to call them 12 times and nobody could tell me where my money was!! Finally got it sorted but I just stick with the stupid Money Network card now even though I hate the fees. Not worth the headache!!

•Sounds like you hit a glitch in their system. I've helped dozens of claimants switch their direct deposit info and it typically processes within 1-2 payment cycles. If you do decide to try again, make sure to keep your Money Network card activated until you've confirmed the new direct deposit is working. That way if there's a problem, they can always revert to the card.

Not Chime specific, but as an FYI - PA UC direct deposit payments are generally processed in batches on Monday after Sunday filing and typically hit accounts between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning depending on your bank. Some banks like Chime make funds available as soon as they receive the ACH notification rather than waiting for actual settlement. This is why Chime and similar online banks often show deposits earlier. If you're having trouble reaching PA UC to set up or verify your direct deposit, you might want to check out Claimyr (claimyr.com). They've got a service that helps you get through to an actual UC agent on the phone instead of dealing with busy signals. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. Really helpful if you need to make account changes and want confirmation that everything's set up correctly.

•Thanks for the detailed explanation! That makes sense why Chime might be faster. I'll check out that service if I run into problems making the switch - trying to avoid any payment delays.

When I was on unemployment last year I had mine going to Chime and it was ALWAYS there Tuesday night around 9pm. My friend who had the Money Network card had to wait until Wednesday afternoon most weeks. So yes, Chime is definitely faster in my experience! But what's really annoying is that when there's a holiday Monday, everyone's payment gets delayed by a day no matter what bank you use.

•Good point about the holidays - totally forgot about that! I think I'm gonna go ahead and make the switch to Chime. The consensus seems to be that it's at least a little faster in most cases.

Just to clarify some confusion in this thread: When you switch your payment method from the Money Network card to direct deposit, your first payment after making the change may still go to the card. This is because payment processing often begins before the direct deposit change is fully implemented in their system. Plan for this possibility and don't panic if your first payment after making the change doesn't show up in your Chime account. If this happens, check your Money Network card balance before calling UC. Also, always triple-check your account and routing numbers. A single incorrect digit will cause significant delays while the payment is returned to UC and reprocessed.

•That's really helpful to know! I'll definitely keep my Money Network card active during the transition period just in case. Thanks for the heads up about possibly getting one more payment on the card even after making the change.

•I would not recommend using Cash App for unemployment benefits. While some users report success, Cash App is not classified as a traditional bank account and some state unemployment systems have issues with these types of accounts. Chime, being a more established financial technology company partnered with actual banks, tends to have fewer issues with government deposits.

I switched from the Money Network card to Chime about 4 months ago and it's been great! My payments typically hit Chime on Tuesday around 7-8pm, which is definitely faster than when I was getting the card loaded on Wednesday mornings. The transition was pretty smooth for me - took about 10 days from when I updated my banking info to when the first payment hit Chime. One tip: I kept screenshots of my banking details when I entered them in the system, just in case there were any issues and I needed to verify the info with UC later. The ATM fee savings alone made it worth switching for me!

I made the switch from Money Network to Chime about 2 months ago and I'm really happy with it! My payments usually show up Tuesday night between 6-9pm, which is definitely earlier than the card. The transition went smoothly - I think it took about a week and a half for the first direct deposit to hit. One thing I wish I'd known beforehand is that Chime sends you a notification as soon as the deposit hits, which is super convenient for planning. The only downside is that if there's ever a system issue on Chime's end, you can't just go to an ATM like with the Money Network card, but that's pretty rare. Overall, the earlier timing and no ATM fees make it totally worth it!

•That's really encouraging to hear! The notification feature sounds super helpful - I hate constantly checking my balance waiting for deposits. Did you have to do anything special to set up the direct deposit switch, or was it just a matter of updating your banking info in the UC dashboard? I'm planning to make the change this week and want to make sure I don't miss any steps.

I switched from Money Network to Chime about 8 months ago and it's been a game changer! My payments consistently hit Chime on Tuesday evenings around 7-8pm, compared to Wednesday mornings with the card. The transition was pretty smooth - took about 2 weeks total. One thing I'd recommend is taking screenshots of your banking info when you enter it in the UC system, just in case you need to reference it later. Also, don't close or deactivate your Money Network card right away - keep it active for at least a month after switching to make sure everything's working properly. The ATM fee savings and earlier deposit timing make it totally worth it in my opinion!

•That's really helpful advice about keeping screenshots and not deactivating the Money Network card right away! I'm definitely going to make the switch now - it sounds like most people are getting their payments on Tuesday evening with Chime vs Wednesday morning with the card. The ATM fee savings alone would probably save me $20-30 a month. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I've been using Chime for my PA UC benefits for about a year now and can confirm it's definitely faster than the Money Network card! My payments hit Chime every Tuesday between 6-8pm, while my neighbor who still uses the card doesn't get hers until Wednesday afternoon. The switch took about 2 weeks for me when I did it - just make sure you double and triple check your routing and account numbers when you enter them. I actually wrote them down on paper first, then typed them in super carefully. One thing that's nice about Chime is they send you an instant notification when any deposit hits, so you know right away. The only thing I miss about the Money Network card is being able to get cash back at grocery stores without fees, but the earlier deposits and no ATM fees at Chime's network more than make up for it. Definitely recommend making the switch if you're thinking about it!

•Thanks for the detailed breakdown! The instant notification feature sounds really helpful - I'm always anxiously checking my balance on payment days. Quick question: when you mention Chime's ATM network, do you know if that includes the major chains like CVS and Walgreens? I do most of my cash withdrawals at those places so want to make sure I won't end up paying fees there either.

I've been considering making this exact switch! Currently using the Money Network card and those ATM fees really do add up - probably costing me $25-30 a month. From what everyone's sharing here, it sounds like Chime is consistently faster (Tuesday evening vs Wednesday morning/afternoon) and the fee savings would be significant. @Zainab Ismail thanks for all the detailed advice about keeping the card active during transition and triple-checking the account numbers - that's exactly the kind of info I needed to hear. I think I'm going to go ahead and make the switch this week. Has anyone had experience with how long it takes for the direct deposit change to show as "confirmed" or "processed" in the UC dashboard after you submit it?

•I made the switch about 3 months ago and it took roughly 5-7 business days for the status to update to "processed" in my UC dashboard. The actual first direct deposit hit about 2 weeks after I initially submitted the change. One tip - after you submit the banking info change, you should get some kind of confirmation message or email. If you don't see any acknowledgment within 24-48 hours, I'd call to make sure it went through properly. Also totally agree on those ATM fees - I was probably spending $30+ a month on them with the Money Network card. The Chime switch has been worth it just for that savings alone, not even counting getting paid a day earlier!

I switched from Money Network to Chime about 5 months ago and it's been amazing! My UC payments consistently hit my Chime account on Tuesday evenings around 6-7pm, which is a full day earlier than when I was getting the card loaded on Wednesday mornings. The transition process was pretty straightforward - took about 2 weeks from when I updated my banking info to receiving my first direct deposit. Just make sure to keep your Money Network card active during the switch in case there are any hiccups. The ATM fee savings have been huge for me too - I was probably spending $25+ per month on fees with the old card. One bonus is that Chime sends instant notifications when deposits hit, so no more anxiously refreshing your balance! Definitely recommend making the switch if you're tired of waiting and paying fees.

•This is super helpful to hear! I'm convinced now that switching to Chime is the right move. Getting paid on Tuesday evening instead of Wednesday morning would actually help me with my bill schedule, and saving $25+ on ATM fees every month is a no-brainer. Thanks for mentioning the instant notifications too - that sounds way better than constantly checking my balance and wondering if the payment went through. I'm going to start the switch process tomorrow and make sure to follow everyone's advice about keeping the Money Network card active during the transition period.

I made the switch from Money Network to Chime about 3 months ago and it's been one of the best decisions I've made! My PA UC payments now hit my Chime account every Tuesday around 6:30-7:00pm, which is definitely faster than the Wednesday morning timeline I had with the Money Network card. The transition took about 10 days for me - I submitted the direct deposit change on a Thursday and got my first Chime deposit the following week. A few tips from my experience: definitely keep screenshots of your routing and account numbers before submitting, double-check everything multiple times, and don't deactivate your Money Network card until you've received at least 2-3 successful direct deposits on Chime. I was spending about $20-25 monthly on ATM fees with the old card, so the savings have been significant. Plus Chime's instant deposit notifications are a game changer - no more constantly checking your balance on payment day! The earlier timing has really helped with my monthly budgeting too since I can pay bills on Tuesday night instead of waiting until Wednesday afternoon.

•This is exactly the kind of detailed experience I was hoping to hear about! Getting paid Tuesday evening vs Wednesday afternoon would be perfect for my bill schedule too. I really appreciate the tip about keeping screenshots of the banking info - that's such a simple thing but could save a lot of headaches if there are any issues. The $20-25 monthly savings on ATM fees plus the earlier deposit timing makes this seem like a no-brainer. I'm going to start the process this week and follow your advice about waiting for 2-3 successful deposits before deactivating the Money Network card. Thanks for sharing such helpful details!
