PA UC direct deposit timing - Tuesday vs Wednesday payment after switching from ReliaCard?
Just made a switch from the Money Network card to direct deposit for my PA unemployment payments. Been getting my UC benefits on the card every Wednesday for about 7 weeks now, but I heard from a coworker that when you switch to direct deposit, payments actually hit your bank account on Tuesdays instead? Can anyone confirm if this is true? Not a huge deal either way, but would be nice to get paid a day earlier. Just filed my weekly claim yesterday and wondering when to expect the money this week. Thanks for any info!

You're right about the timing difference! PA UC payments typically process overnight Monday and hit direct deposit accounts on Tuesday mornings (usually between 6-9am). The Money Network cards always take an extra day, which is why those payments show up on Wednesdays. I switched to direct deposit back in January and have been getting Tuesday deposits ever since. One thing to note - your first direct deposit payment might still follow the old schedule as they transition your account. After that, you should be on the Tuesday schedule.

•Thanks so much for confirming! That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. Fingers crossed it comes through tomorrow then!

IVe had both and the card is ALWAYS weds but direct deposit was tues for me most weeks. sometime it was still weds tho. depends on your bank i think

•Not really bank dependent. The UC system sends the ACH transfer Monday night. Federal Reserve processes it overnight. Any delay after that point would be your specific bank's policy on pending deposits. Most banks show it Tuesday morning but some hold ACH transfers an extra day. Call your bank if it consistently takes longer.

For me UC payment hits me EVERY Tuesday at exactly 3:32am with direct deposit, I'm with PNC. My friend has Chime and gets hers Monday nights around 11pm sometimes! When I had the card it was always Wednesday afternoons. So much happier with direct deposit!!!

•Monday night? That's even better! I have a credit union account, so I guess I'll find out soon enough exactly when it posts. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Just wanted to mention - if you're having trouble reaching PA UC to confirm anything about your payment methods or timing, I had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent quickly. They have a service that helps you bypass the busy signals and actually get through to a person at UC. Saved me hours of frustration when I needed to fix a direct deposit issue. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2

•Does that really work? I've been trying to reach someone at UC for 3 days straight about my missing payment and keep getting busy signals or disconnected.

The PA UC system is so inconsistent it drives me CRAZY! When I switched to direct deposit last year they told me Tuesday but my first payment took 2 EXTRA DAYS and I almost had a heart attack thinking they lost my money!!! After that it was always Tuesday but sometimes as late as 2pm. The Money Network card was MORE reliable timing-wise but I got tired of finding an in-network ATM. Just be prepared that your first direct deposit might be wonky timing. After that it stabilizes.

•This is so true. My first payment after switching was delayed too. I called UC in a panic but they said it's normal for the first one.

•Thanks for the heads up! I'll try not to freak out if the first one is delayed. At least I still have some money on the card to tide me over if needed.

The official PA UC payment processing schedule works like this: 1. Weekly claims filed Sunday-Friday are processed the following Monday night 2. Direct deposit funds are sent to banks Tuesday morning (federal ACH transfer) 3. Money Network card deposits process Tuesday but don't post until Wednesday Here's something important though - if Monday is a banking holiday, everything shifts one day later. So next week with Memorial Day, expect Wednesday for direct deposit and Thursday for card payments.

•This is super helpful, thanks! Good point about the holiday schedule too - I wouldn't have thought about that.

i got a question too since were talking about payments... does anyone know if they take more taxes out of direct deposit vs the card? my payments seem smaller now but maybe im just imagining it

•The tax withholding options are exactly the same regardless of payment method. If your payment amount changed, you should check if: 1. You accidentally changed your withholding preferences when updating payment method 2. Your benefit amount changed (reduction after quarterly wage review happens sometimes) 3. You have an overpayment that's being recouped You can check all this on your UC dashboard under payment history.

Quick update for anyone following this thread - I just got my first direct deposit payment this morning (Tuesday) at 7:45am! So Brian was right about the timing. The switch from ReliaCard worked perfectly and I did get paid a day earlier than the usual Wednesday schedule. Really happy with the change. For anyone considering making the switch, definitely worth it for the faster payments and no ATM fees. Thanks everyone for the helpful info!

That's awesome news! Thanks for coming back to update everyone - it's really helpful to hear confirmation that the switch worked smoothly. I'm actually thinking about making the same switch from my ReliaCard to direct deposit now that I know it really does speed things up by a day. Did you have to do anything special to make the switch or was it just a simple process through the UC portal?

•The switch is pretty straightforward! You just log into your UC dashboard and go to the payment options section. You'll need your bank routing number and account number handy. It takes about 5-10 minutes to set up, and they'll send you a confirmation email. The only thing to keep in mind is that your first direct deposit might be delayed by a day or two while they process the change, but after that you should be on the regular Tuesday schedule. Definitely worth doing - no more hunting for fee-free ATMs!

I've been on direct deposit for about 4 months now and can confirm Tuesday is the standard day. One tip I'd add - set up mobile banking alerts for deposits so you know exactly when it hits your account. My credit union sends me a text the moment the deposit posts, usually around 6am on Tuesday. Also, if you're ever concerned about a delayed payment, the PA UC website has a payment calendar that shows processing dates and any holiday delays. It's under the "Payment Information" section and super helpful for planning your budget around UC payments.

•That's a great tip about setting up mobile banking alerts! I just switched to direct deposit myself and hadn't thought about doing that. The payment calendar sounds really useful too - I'll definitely check that out. It's nice to have all these resources to track payments instead of just guessing when they'll show up. Thanks for sharing that info!

I made the switch about 2 months ago and it's been great! One thing I wish someone had told me - make sure to keep your ReliaCard active for at least one payment cycle after switching, just in case there are any hiccups with the direct deposit setup. I almost threw mine away right after making the change, but my first direct deposit got delayed by a few days and I was glad I still had access to the card. After that first payment, everything has been smooth sailing with Tuesday morning deposits. Also, double-check that your bank account info is entered correctly - I had a friend who accidentally transposed two digits in his routing number and his payment got rejected, causing a whole mess that took weeks to sort out.

•That's really smart advice about keeping the ReliaCard active during the transition! I'm planning to make the switch soon and definitely wouldn't have thought about that safety net. The tip about double-checking account numbers is crucial too - I can imagine how much of a nightmare it would be to have payments bouncing back because of a typo. Thanks for sharing these practical tips from your experience!

Just wanted to add my experience - I switched from ReliaCard to direct deposit about 6 weeks ago and it's been a game changer! The Tuesday timing is definitely accurate, and I love not having to worry about ATM fees anymore. One thing I noticed is that my payments hit my account at slightly different times each Tuesday (anywhere from 5:30am to 8:15am), but it's always Tuesday. The switch process was super easy through the UC portal, and like others mentioned, my first payment was delayed by about 2 days while they processed the change. After that, it's been clockwork every Tuesday. Highly recommend making the switch if you're still on the card!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! It's really encouraging to hear from someone who's been using direct deposit for a while now. The slight variation in timing (5:30am to 8:15am) is good to know - I was wondering if it would be exactly the same time every week. The fact that it's always Tuesday regardless is what matters most. I'm definitely convinced now that switching from the ReliaCard is the way to go, especially with all the positive experiences everyone has shared here. The ATM fee savings alone will probably add up to a decent amount over time!

I switched from ReliaCard to direct deposit about 3 months ago and can confirm everything everyone's saying here! Tuesday deposits are definitely the norm - mine usually hits around 6:45am with my local credit union. The switch process was painless, just took a few minutes in the UC portal. One thing I'll add that I haven't seen mentioned - if you have multiple bank accounts, make sure you're using a checking account and not a savings account for the direct deposit. I initially tried to set it up with my savings account and it got rejected because PA UC only allows direct deposits to checking accounts. Had to redo the whole setup, which delayed my first payment by an extra week. Learned that lesson the hard way! Overall though, so much better than the ReliaCard. No more driving around looking for fee-free ATMs or worrying about losing the card. The Tuesday timing is just an added bonus!

•That's a really important point about using a checking account vs savings account! I had no idea that PA UC had that restriction. I was actually planning to set up direct deposit to my high-yield savings account to earn a little extra interest on the funds, but now I know that won't work. Thanks for sharing that - you probably just saved me from the same headache you went through with the delayed payment. It's frustrating that they have that limitation, but at least now I know to use my checking account from the start.

I switched from ReliaCard to direct deposit about 2 weeks ago and can confirm the Tuesday timing! My payments now hit my Wells Fargo account every Tuesday around 7:30am, which is a full day earlier than when I was getting them on Wednesday with the card. The switch was really straightforward through the UC portal - just needed my routing and account numbers. One tip I'd add: make sure to screenshot or write down your confirmation number after you submit the direct deposit request. When I called UC to check on the status of my switch, they asked for that number and it helped them locate my request quickly. My first direct deposit did come a day later than expected (Wednesday instead of Tuesday), but every payment since then has been right on schedule for Tuesday mornings. Definitely worth making the switch!

•Great tip about saving the confirmation number! I'm planning to make the switch next week and wouldn't have thought to do that. It's really helpful to know that even if the first payment might be a day off, it gets back on track after that. Your experience with Wells Fargo is encouraging too - seems like most major banks handle the Tuesday deposits pretty consistently. Thanks for sharing your timeline and experience!

I switched from ReliaCard to direct deposit about 5 weeks ago and it's been fantastic! Tuesday deposits are spot on - mine hits my Chase account every Tuesday between 6:00-6:30am. The whole process was super easy through the UC portal, took maybe 10 minutes total. One thing I'd recommend is logging into your UC dashboard the day after you make the switch to confirm they received your banking info correctly. I noticed they had my routing number right but initially showed the wrong last 4 digits of my account number (even though I entered it correctly). I was able to catch it and fix it before my first payment processed, which saved me a lot of headache. Also, don't panic if your first direct deposit shows up at a slightly different time than usual - mine came at 2:15pm on that first Tuesday instead of the usual early morning time. After that, it's been consistently around 6:15am every Tuesday. The day earlier timing compared to the ReliaCard has been a huge help with my budget planning!

•That's really smart advice about double-checking your banking info in the UC dashboard after submitting! I would never have thought to verify that they entered everything correctly on their end. It's concerning that the system might display incorrect account details even when entered properly - definitely something I'll watch out for when I make my switch. The timing variation for the first payment (2:15pm vs 6:15am) is interesting too - seems like there's always some quirk with that initial direct deposit while the system gets everything sorted out. Thanks for sharing such detailed experience!

I made the switch from ReliaCard to direct deposit about 8 weeks ago and it's been amazing! The Tuesday timing is 100% accurate - my payments hit my Navy Federal account every Tuesday around 5:45am without fail. The switch process through the UC portal was surprisingly smooth, just had to enter my routing and account numbers. One thing I wish I had known beforehand - after you make the switch, you'll get an email confirmation, but it might take 2-3 business days for the change to actually show up in your UC dashboard. I kept checking and panicking that something went wrong, but it was just their system updating slowly. My first direct deposit was actually right on time (Tuesday morning), which was better than what some others experienced. The best part is no more ATM fees! I was spending $3-5 every time I needed cash with the ReliaCard. Over a few months, that really adds up. Plus getting paid on Tuesday instead of Wednesday has helped me manage my weekly expenses so much better. Definitely recommend making the switch if you're still on the fence!

•Thanks for sharing your Navy Federal experience! That's really helpful to know about the 2-3 day delay for the change to show up in the dashboard - I would have definitely been checking obsessively and worrying something went wrong. It's great that your first payment came through right on schedule too, unlike some of the other experiences mentioned here. The ATM fee savings is such a good point - those $3-5 charges really do add up over time when you're already dealing with reduced income from unemployment. Your positive experience with the Tuesday timing is really encouraging for those of us considering making the switch!

I switched from ReliaCard to direct deposit about 3 weeks ago and can confirm the Tuesday timing is accurate! My payments now hit my PNC account every Tuesday morning around 6:15am, which is so much better than waiting until Wednesday afternoon with the card. The switch process was really straightforward through the UC portal - just needed my routing and account numbers and it took about 5 minutes. One thing I experienced that might be helpful - my first direct deposit actually came through on the normal Tuesday schedule, unlike some others who had delays. I think it might depend on when during the week you make the switch. I changed my payment method on a Thursday, so maybe that gave them enough time to process it before the next payment cycle. The biggest benefit for me has been avoiding ATM fees. I was probably spending $10-15 per month in fees with the ReliaCard since the fee-free ATMs near me were pretty limited. Plus the peace of mind knowing the money goes straight into my account without having to worry about losing a card or it getting damaged. Highly recommend making the switch!

•That's a great point about the timing of when you make the switch potentially affecting whether your first payment gets delayed! I hadn't thought about that - it makes sense that switching earlier in the week would give them more processing time before the next payment cycle. Your experience with PNC getting the payment at 6:15am Tuesday is really consistent with what others have reported. The ATM fee savings really is significant too - $10-15 per month adds up to $120-180 per year, which is nothing to sneeze at when you're on unemployment. Thanks for sharing your smooth experience with the switch!

I'm actually in a similar situation - been getting my UC payments on the ReliaCard every Wednesday for the past couple months but thinking about switching to direct deposit. Reading through all these responses has been super helpful! It sounds like the Tuesday timing is pretty consistent across different banks, and the ATM fee savings alone would make it worthwhile. I'm with Bank of America - has anyone had experience with how they handle the Tuesday UC deposits? Also wondering if there's a best day of the week to make the switch to minimize any delays with the first payment. Thanks for starting this thread - exactly the info I was looking for!

•I can share my Bank of America experience! I switched from ReliaCard to direct deposit about 6 weeks ago and my UC payments hit my BoA checking account every Tuesday between 6:30-7:00am. Very consistent timing. As for the best day to switch, based on what others have mentioned here, it seems like making the change earlier in the week (Tuesday-Thursday) gives the system more time to process before the next payment cycle. I switched on a Wednesday and my first direct deposit came through right on Tuesday as expected. The switch through the UC portal was really simple with BoA - just make sure you're using your checking account routing number, not savings. The ATM fee savings has been huge since BoA charges $2.50 for out-of-network ATMs and the ReliaCard options were pretty limited in my area. Definitely recommend making the switch!

I switched from ReliaCard to direct deposit about 6 months ago and can definitely confirm the Tuesday timing! My payments hit my Ally Bank account every Tuesday morning around 6:00am, which is so much better than the Wednesday schedule with the card. The switch process was really easy through the UC portal - took maybe 10 minutes total. One thing I'd add that I haven't seen mentioned much - make sure you have your bank's correct routing number handy before you start the process. I almost used the wrong one (there are different routing numbers for wire transfers vs ACH transfers) but caught it at the last minute. Most banks have their ACH routing number clearly listed on their website or you can find it on a check. My first direct deposit did come a day later than expected, but after that it's been like clockwork every Tuesday. The ATM fee savings have been incredible - I was probably spending $20+ per month in fees with the ReliaCard since I live in a rural area with limited fee-free options. Plus there's something really nice about just waking up Tuesday morning and knowing the money is already in your account. Highly recommend making the switch!

•That's such a good point about making sure you have the correct routing number for ACH transfers vs wire transfers! I had no idea banks sometimes use different routing numbers for different types of transactions. I'm planning to switch from my ReliaCard to direct deposit next week and would have probably just grabbed the first routing number I found without thinking about it. Your experience with Ally Bank sounds great too - 6:00am Tuesday deposits and significant ATM fee savings in a rural area where options are limited makes a huge difference. Thanks for the practical tip about double-checking the routing number type before starting the process!

I just switched from ReliaCard to direct deposit last week and I'm really excited to see all these positive experiences! I've been getting my UC payments on Wednesday with the card for about 2 months now, and the ATM fees have been really frustrating - especially since the closest fee-free ATM is like 15 minutes away from my house. Reading through everyone's experiences, it sounds like the Tuesday direct deposit timing is pretty much universal across different banks, which is awesome. I'm with TD Bank and made the switch on Thursday, so hopefully my first payment comes through smoothly this Tuesday. The one day earlier payment plus no more ATM fees will be such a relief for my budget planning. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - this thread has been incredibly helpful for understanding what to expect!
