How to change direct deposit to Money Network card on PA UC website - can't find the option

Hey everyone, I've been getting my PA UC benefits through direct deposit to my checking account, but my bank is giving me issues with overdraft fees. I want to switch over to having benefits loaded onto the Money Network card instead, but I've spent 20 minutes clicking around the UC website and can't find where to change my payment method. Can anyone tell me step-by-step where this option is hiding? I swear it used to be easier to find on the old system before they updated everything.

i had same problem last month. its under settings not payments which is stupid. click on user profile then scroll waaay down

Thanks I'll try that! Is it somewhere after all the personal info stuff? I didn't scroll far enough maybe.

The payment method option isn't located where you might expect. Log in to your PA UC account, click on 'User Settings' (small gear icon in the upper right corner), then scroll down to 'Payment Preferences' section. Click 'Edit' and you'll see options for Direct Deposit or Debit Card. Select 'PA UC Debit Card (Money Network)' and submit. The system will update within 1-2 business days. Important: If you don't already have a Money Network card, it will be mailed to you and can take 7-10 business days to arrive. Your payments will be held until you activate the card. Make sure your mailing address is current!

Thank you so much for the detailed instructions! I was looking under the 'Claim Information' section which is why I couldn't find it. Will make the change right away.

It's SO ANNOYING they hide this stuff!!1! I spent 2 hours on the phone trying to get this fixed last year and no one answered. The website is a disaster compared to how it used to be. Why can't they make things simple????

Just to add some important info: if you're switching from direct deposit to the Money Network card, be aware there might be a 1-2 week processing period where payments could be delayed. This happened to me last year. Also, if you already have a Money Network card from a previous claim but haven't used it in over a year, call the card services number on the back to make sure it's still active. Sometimes they deactivate cards after long periods of inactivity, and you might need a new one issued.

Oh that's good to know about the delay. I better make this change right after I get my next payment then! I don't want to miss money when rent is due.

Have you tried calling the UC service center? I had this same problem trying to switch payment methods and couldn't get through for days. Used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with a PA UC agent and got it fixed in one call. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Sometimes it's quicker to have them make the change than figuring out the website, especially with all their recent updates.

is that service legit? i heard about it but was worried its a scam or something

When I switched to the Money Network card last month, I actually had to do it during my weekly claim filing. There was an option at the end of the weekly certification process to update payment info. Not sure if that's still there, but might be worth checking next time you file your weekly claim too. BTW the Money Network card has been way better for me because my bank was also hitting me with overdraft fees. The card lets me know exactly when the money hits and I don't have to worry about timing issues with my bank anymore.

This is actually incorrect information. The payment method change can ONLY be made through the User Settings page, not during weekly certification. I work helping people with UC claims and this is a common confusion. Always go through User Settings → Payment Preferences to make this change.

UPDATE: I found it!! Thanks everyone. It was exactly where @profile2 said - under User Settings and then wayyyy down the page under Payment Preferences. It was so easy once I knew where to look! Already made the change and got confirmation. Hopefully I'll get my new card soon and avoid those stupid bank fees.

Glad you found it! Just remember there might be a slight delay in payments during the transition period as @profile1 mentioned. Keep filing your weekly claims as normal though.

cool! ya those bank fees are the worst

I HATE that card! They charged me $2.50 every time I used an ATM that wasnt in their network!! And the app is terrible keeps crashing. Just warning you might wanna stick with direct deposit and just change banks instead.

That's true about the ATM fees, but if you transfer the money to your bank account through the Money Network app, it's free. I just transfer everything as soon as it hits the card. No fees that way.

Anybody know if you can switch BACK to direct deposit later? My situation is kinda the opposite. Got the card automatically when I filed but prefer direct deposit. Been too afraid to call and ask because you can never get through lol

Yes, you can switch back and forth as needed using the same process. Just go to User Settings → Payment Preferences and select Direct Deposit instead. You'll need your bank account number and routing number ready.

Just wanted to add a heads up for anyone switching to the Money Network card - make sure to download the mobile app before your first payment arrives! You can set up account alerts so you'll get notified immediately when your UC payment hits the card. This was super helpful for me because I could see exactly when the money was available instead of wondering if it had come through yet. The app also lets you check your balance and transaction history which is handy for budgeting. Way better than waiting for text alerts or having to call the automated phone line.

That's a great tip about the mobile app! I didn't even think about setting up alerts. Does the app work pretty well or does it have issues like some people mentioned? I want to make sure I can actually rely on the notifications before I make the switch.

The app works pretty well for me! I've been using it for about 6 months now. The notifications are reliable - I usually get the alert within 10-15 minutes of my payment being deposited. Sometimes the app is a little slow to load but nothing major. Way more convenient than checking the balance by calling that automated number. Just make sure to update the app when it prompts you to, otherwise the notifications can get delayed.

One thing I wish someone had told me earlier - if you're switching to avoid bank overdraft fees, make sure to also change any automatic payments you have set up! I switched to the Money Network card but forgot I had my phone bill set to auto-pay from my bank account. When my UC payment didn't hit my bank anymore, I got hit with overdraft fees anyway. Had to go through and update all my recurring payments to either come from the card or wait until I transfer the money over. Just a heads up to save others the hassle I went through!

Oh wow that's such a good point about the automatic payments! I would have totally forgotten about that and ended up in the same situation. Thanks for sharing that - definitely going to make a list of all my auto-pays before I make the switch. Did you end up using the Money Network card to pay bills directly or do you just transfer everything to your bank account first?

Just to add another perspective - I've been using the Money Network card for about 8 months now and it's been pretty solid overall. The key things that helped me were: 1) Setting up the mobile app right away like @Zara mentioned, 2) Finding a local ATM that's in their network (there's a locator on their website), and 3) Setting up automatic transfers to my main bank account so I don't have to think about it. The transfer usually takes 1 business day and there's no fee if you do standard transfer (not the instant one). Just wanted to give a balanced view since I saw some mixed experiences shared here!

Thanks for the balanced perspective! I'm definitely leaning towards making the switch now. Quick question - when you set up the automatic transfers to your bank account, can you choose what day of the week it transfers? I get my UC payments on Tuesdays usually, so I'd want the transfer to happen Wednesday or Thursday so I know the money is definitely there first.
