Will certifying after 5pm still get NY unemployment deposit on Tuesday?
So I usually certify for ny unemployment early Sunday morning, but today I got caught up with family stuff and now it's almost 6pm. If I certify now, will I still get my deposit on Tuesday like normal? Or does certifying late push everything back? I'm stressing because I've got bills that auto-pay on Wednesday and really need that money to hit my account on time. Anyone know the cutoff time for Sunday certification to still get paid Tuesday?

Ive certified as late as 11pm on Sunday and still got my deposit Tuesday morning. Your good as long as you do it before midnight.

•This is correct. Sunday is Sunday until 11:59pm. You're fine.

I had so much trouble reaching anyone at unemployment until I tried this service called Claimyr. Got connected to an actual person who confirmed that Sunday certifications - any time before midnight - get processed the same way. It was the best money I've ever spent to finally talk to a real human at unemployment. Check out their explainer video: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Yeah it's real! claimyr.com - they basically wait on hold for you then call when they get a rep. I was skeptical but it worked within like an hour

•sounds sketchy af... why would you pay for something like this?

•because spending hours trying to get thru on the phone is literally impossible? I'd rather pay a bit than waste entire days on hold. Time = money and all that

•I actually used this last month when my claim was stuck. Worked exactly like they said - got a call when there was a live agent. Saved me days of frustration

You'll be fine certifying before midnight. The cutoff is midnight Sunday, not some random time like 5pm. The system processes all Sunday claims together overnight.

This reminds me of the weird issue I had a few months back. I certified at like 11:58pm (cutting it REAL close lol) and the system showed Monday's date on the confirmation. I freaked out but still got paid Tuesday. So even if it seems like you missed the cutoff, you mite actually be fine.

•That's good to know! I'm always worried about these arbitrary cutoffs

•Yeah the whole system is confusing AF but that Sunday-to-Tuesday timeline is pretty consistent. They're terrible at explaining anything tho

Honestly it depends on your bank too. I always certify Sunday and technically the money is released from NY unemployment on Monday night/Tuesday morning, but my bank doesnt make it available until Wednesday. So the unemployment timing is only half the equation.

•^^^^THIS. My credit union posts it by 9am Tuesday but my friend with Chase doesn't see it until afternoon. Bank processing times matter a lot.

•That's a really good point. I have TD Bank and they've been pretty good about making it available Tuesday morning. Fingers crossed!

I work in IT (not for unemployment but similar systems). The way these government processing systems work is they collect all transactions for a period (in this case Sunday), then run batch processing overnight. There's no difference between certifying at 7am or 11:30pm on Sunday - they all get processed in the same batch job that night.

i missed certification completely one sunday and did it monday morning instead. got paid wednesday. so even if you somehow miss the cutoff (which you haven't), it's just a one day delay.

•Good to know the world doesnt end if you miss Sunday lol. The anxiety these systems create is ridiculous

Tip: set a dang ALARM on your phone for certification day. I do mine at 7am every Sunday like clockwork. Never have to stress or wonder. Just make it a habit and you'll never worry about this again.

•That's actually really smart. Gonna do that starting next week!

FYI - always check the NY unemployment website for holiday schedules too. If Monday is a bank holiday, the payments are always delayed by a day. Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc mess up the normal schedule.

Look at Mr. Responsible over here certifying on Sunday night 🤣 I've forgotten until Tuesday before and then had to deal with that whole mess. You're WAY ahead of lots of us!

•LOL seriously. I've gone entire weeks forgetting and had to do the whole phone begging thing. 5pm on Sunday is ultra responsible in unemployment-land

The BEST and most comprehensive answer to your certification timing questions: Sunday certifications = Tuesday deposits (any time before midnight Sunday) Monday certifications = Wednesday deposits Tuesday certifications = Thursday deposits etc. through the week If there's a bank holiday, add one business day. If your payment status says 'pending' for more than 3 days, there's an issue with your claim. In that case, you need to actually speak to someone. I highly recommend claimyr.com for that - they'll get you connected to a live agent without the hours of hold time. It's the only reliable way I've found to get through to a real person who can actually help fix account issues. But for your specific question - 5pm, 8pm, 11pm - doesn't matter as long as it's still Sunday!

•I did! They called me back in about 45 minutes with an agent on the line. Total game changer when I had a payment stuck in pending for weeks. Check out claimyr.com

I certified at 11pm once and the system was so slow I thought it hadn't gone through. Ended up accidentally certifying twice and my account got flagged for fraud 🤦♂️ Took forever to fix

You're totally fine! I've been on unemployment for about 8 months now and I can tell you the cutoff is definitely midnight Sunday, not some arbitrary time like 5pm. I've certified as late as 11:45pm before and still got my Tuesday deposit right on schedule. The system processes all Sunday certifications together in one big batch overnight, so whether you do it at 8am or 11pm makes no difference. Your bills will be covered - you'll see that deposit Tuesday morning as usual! 💪

•Thanks for the reassurance! This is my first time dealing with unemployment and every little thing makes me panic. It's good to hear from someone with more experience that the timing really doesn't matter as long as it's before midnight. Really appreciate everyone jumping in to help - this community is awesome! 🙏

Don't stress about it! I've certified as late as 11:30pm on Sunday and still got my deposit Tuesday morning without any issues. The system doesn't care what time on Sunday you certify - it's all processed in the same overnight batch. As long as you get it done before midnight Sunday, you'll be on the normal Tuesday payment schedule. Your bills will be fine! I learned this the hard way when I was panicking about the same thing a few months ago.

•This is such a relief to hear! I'm also pretty new to all this and was totally freaking out thinking I'd messed up my payment schedule. It's crazy how stressful these systems can be when you really depend on them. Thanks for sharing your experience - makes me feel way better about cutting it close today!

Hey Maria! You're absolutely fine - I've been in the exact same situation before. The cutoff for Sunday certification is midnight, not 5pm or any other time. I've certified as late as 11:45pm on Sunday and still received my deposit Tuesday morning like clockwork. The NY unemployment system processes ALL Sunday certifications together in one overnight batch, so it literally doesn't matter if you do it at 6am or 11:59pm - they all get processed the same way. Your Tuesday deposit will come through as normal, so your auto-pay bills on Wednesday should be covered. I totally get the stress though - when you're depending on that money, every little timing thing feels huge! But you're good to go as long as you get it done before midnight tonight.

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! I've been sitting here stressed out for the past hour thinking I completely messed up my payment timeline. It's so reassuring to know that as long as I get it done before midnight, I'm still on track for Tuesday. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain how the batch processing works too - that makes total sense. Going to certify right now and stop worrying about it! Thanks Zane! 😊

Just certified at 7:30pm and wanted to add my experience - you're definitely fine! I've been on unemployment for about 6 months now and have certified at all different times on Sunday. Whether it's 9am or 10pm, I always get my deposit Tuesday morning. The key thing is just making sure you do it before midnight on Sunday. I think a lot of people get confused because some other states have earlier cutoffs, but NY processes everything together overnight. Your auto-pay bills on Wednesday will be covered - that Tuesday deposit is super reliable as long as you certify on Sunday. Family stuff happens, don't beat yourself up about it!
