Will NY unemployment benefits arrive Tuesday if I certify late on Sunday?
Had a crazy weekend and totally forgot to certify for my NY unemployment until 11:30pm on Sunday night. I usually certify Sunday morning and get paid by Tuesday. Will my payment still arrive on Tuesday or will it be delayed since I certified so late in the day? I really need the money for rent due on Wednesday...

As long as you certified before midnight on Sunday, you should still get paid on Tuesday. The system processes all Sunday certifications overnight regardless of what time you submitted it. I've certified as late as 11:55pm and still got paid on time.

Sometimes even if you certify Sunday night, there can be random delays in the system. If you don't see it Tuesday morning, don't panic right away - it might just show up later in the day. NY unemployment payment timing has been unpredictable lately.

•That makes me nervous. Has anyone experienced delays recently? My rent is due Wednesday and I'm cutting it way too close.

I certified late one Sunday in January and DIDN'T get paid until WEDNESDAY!! No explanation from NYSDOL, of course. The system is so broken and they never tell you anything! I needed that money for my car payment and got hit with a late fee. I'm STILL angry about it!!!

My sister certifies late all the time (she works weekend nights) and she says it's never been an issue. I think it just depends on your bank too, some process the deposits faster than others. What bank do you use? I've noticed that with KeyBank the money hits earlier than when I was using Chase.

•I'm with Bank of America. I didn't even think about the bank processing time being a factor. Now I'm really worried...

To give you the most accurate information: 1. Certifications completed anytime on Sunday (until 11:59pm) are processed in the same batch. 2. Payments are typically released on Monday (bank holidays can affect this) 3. Most banks show the deposit on Tuesday If you certified successfully (got a confirmation number), you should be fine. Check your payment history on the NY unemployment website tomorrow to see if it shows as "Released" - that's the most reliable indicator.

•Thank you! I did get a confirmation number, so that's good. I'll check the payment history tomorrow morning. Really appreciate the detailed info.

btw if u ever need to talk to someone at unemployment and cant get thru, check out claimyr.com - I used it last month when my payments stopped and they got me through to a rep in like 20 min. theres a video showing how it works here https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•I've never heard of that before. If my payment doesn't show up tomorrow I might need it. Thanks for sharing!

•Great news! Glad it worked out. For future reference, you can set a weekly reminder on your phone so you don't cut it so close next time.

•So relieved for you! I was in a similar situation last month and the stress was awful. Definitely going to start certifying earlier in the day from now on to avoid that anxiety.

Glad it all worked out! I've been there with the Sunday night panic certification too. One tip that's helped me - I set up a recurring calendar reminder for Saturday evenings that says "Certify for unemployment tomorrow." That way I remember to do it Sunday morning when I'm relaxed instead of scrambling at the last minute. The peace of mind is worth it!

•That's a brilliant idea! I'm definitely going to set up a Saturday reminder too. The stress of waiting to see if the payment comes through is not worth the convenience of doing it whenever. Thanks for the tip!

I'm new to NY unemployment and this thread is super helpful! I just started collecting benefits and wasn't sure about the certification timing. Reading everyone's experiences makes me feel more confident about the process. Question though - is there any advantage to certifying early on Sunday versus later in the day, or does it really not matter as long as it's before midnight?

•Welcome to NY unemployment! From what I've learned lurking here, there's no real advantage to certifying early vs late on Sunday - the system processes everything in one batch overnight. The main benefit of doing it early is just peace of mind and avoiding that last-minute panic like Sean had. I usually try to do mine Sunday morning with my coffee so I don't have to think about it the rest of the day. Good luck with your benefits!

•@Amina Sow Welcome! I ve'been collecting for about 8 months now and can confirm timing doesn t'affect processing - it s'all done in one batch. But I d'recommend doing it Sunday morning if possible just to avoid the stress. Also, keep screenshots of your confirmation pages just in case there are ever any issues. The NY system can be glitchy sometimes and having proof you certified on time has saved me twice when payments got delayed for technical reasons.
