Will my NY unemployment payment still come on Tuesday if I certified late on Sunday?

I usually certify for my weekly benefits every Sunday morning like clockwork, but yesterday I got caught up with some family stuff and completely forgot until around 10pm last night. Finally remembered and certified but now I'm worried about when I'll actually get paid. I've been getting direct deposits on Tuesdays since I started collecting unemployment back in February. Does certifying later on Sunday mess with the payment schedule? Really need this money to hit my account on time for rent and bills. Anyone know if I'll still get paid Tuesday or will the late certification push everything back?

You should be fine. As long as you certified on Sunday (even if it was late at night), your payment should still process and arrive on your normal day. The system processes all Sunday certifications in the same batch.

Thank you! That's a relief to hear. Was getting worried I'd have to explain to my landlord why rent might be late 😅

Yeah I've certified as late as 11:45pm on Sunday and still got paid Tuesday. Their system doesn't care what time on Sunday you do it.

After months of getting nowhere with ny unemployment, I finally found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an actual human on the phone! You can watch how it works here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - talking to an agent got my payments moving again after weeks of delays. It was the only way I could finally get someone to help me sort out my claim issues.

This sounds sketchy af. Does it actually work or is it just another scam trying to profit off desperate people? 🤔

0 coins

Not a scam at all. I was stuck in pending for over a month, tried calling hundreds of times. The Claimyr service connected me to an agent in about 45 mins and they fixed my claim on the spot. Best decision I made after wasting weeks trying to get through myself.

wait do they need access to your account info or anything? not giving my ssn to some random service

0 coins

They don't ask for any personal info at all. They just call the unemployment line and wait on hold for you, then call you when they get a rep on the line. You talk directly to the unemployment agent yourself.

0 coins

i used this too! saved me from throwing my phone against the wall after calling like 50 times and getting nowhere. worth every penny when my benefits finally started coming through again

I've been certifying late on Sundays for months (usually around 8-9pm) and my payments always hit my account Tuesday morning like clockwork. You shouldn't have any issues as long as you completed it before midnight.

Sunday is Sunday as far as the system is concerned. Doesn't matter if u certify at 12:01 AM or 11:59 PM, it all gets processed the same. Tuesday payment should come as usual.

0 coins

this is the correct answer. the nysdol batches all Sunday certifications together regardless of what time they come in

Here's everything you need to know about certification timing and payments with NY unemployment: First, don't worry - certifying anytime on Sunday (even late night) will typically result in Tuesday payment. The system doesn't distinguish between morning or evening certifications on the same day. However, a few things that CAN delay payment: - If you have any pending issues on your claim - If this is your first payment, which often takes longer - If there was a holiday (which there wasn't this week) - If you answered any questions differently than usual during certification If you're really concerned and need to speak with someone about your claim, I highly recommend using claimyr.com - it's a service that will call unemployment for you, wait on hold, and then connect you directly with an agent. I was skeptical at first but after spending weeks trying to get through myself, this service saved me hours of frustration and got my payment issues resolved quickly. The most important thing is that you DID certify within the Sunday window, so you should be all set for your Tuesday payment.

Did you actually use that claimyr service? How much does it cost? Been trying to reach someone for 3 weeks with no luck

0 coins

Yes, I used it when my claim got stuck in pending for weeks. Don't remember the exact cost but it was worth every penny considering I was about to lose my apartment. They called, waited on hold (which would've taken me hours), and then connected me to an agent who fixed my issue immediately. Check out their site claimyr.com for current rates.

Youll be fine. I certified at 11:48pm once and still got paid same as always 💯

0 coins

I think u have to certify by midnight, so ur good! But if u ever DO miss the Sunday window and have to certify on Monday, then year your payment will be delayed by a day usually. Been there done that 😭

0 coins

Can confirm. Certified on a Monday once and payment came Wednesday instead of Tuesday. The state's computer systems run overnight processing in batches.

The NYSDOL website literally says: "You can claim weekly benefits (certify for benefits) on any day of the week during your claim week which runs from Monday through Sunday. However, we recommend that you certify on the last day of your claim week (Sunday) as early as possible." So yeah as long as it was still Sunday ur fine

Whole system is a joke TBH. Sometimes I certify at the exact same time every week and payments still come at random times. Last month they skipped an entire payment with no explanation and I had to call 50+ times to get it fixed. NY unemployment department is the most incompetent government office in the country.

have u even TRIED dealing with California's EDD? makes NY look efficient lolol

Fair point 😂 Though at least Cali has that automated phone system that somewhat works. NY's just hangs up on you after making you listen to 10 minutes of recordings.

Try claimyr.com if you need to actually talk to someone. Only way I've been able to get through in months. Fixed my missing payment issue in one call.

my roommate certifies late on Sundays all the time (he's always forgetting lol) and his money still hits Tuesday

0 coins

Don't sweat it, I've certified literally minutes before midnight and still got paid normal time. As long as it's still technically Sunday when you certified, you're golden. The system doesn't care if it's 1am or 11:59pm on Sunday.

I certified at 6pm tonight (Sunday) and got the confirmation email right away. In my experience as long as its before midnight Sunday you're fine for Tuesday payment. Just be careful about waiting until Mondays - thats when it starts to delay things.

anybody else notice that sometimes even when you certify early sunday morning the website takes FOREVER to load? like it crashes constantly between 8-10am but works fine late at night? maybe certifying late is actually better lol

YES! I think everyone tries to do it first thing Sunday morning and crashes the site. I've started doing mine Sunday evenings specifically to avoid the crashes.

Funny, I was just having this same anxiety yesterday! Completely forgot to certify until right before bed. Has anyone successfully verified that their payment still came through on Tuesday after certifying late on Sunday? Would be nice to have confirmation from multiple people.

I've done it multiple times and always got paid Tuesday. System doesn't care about time of day.

0 coins

Yep, certified at 11pm last week, money was there Tuesday morning as usual.

0 coins

If u need to double check just call in the morning. Though good luck getting through to a real person lol took me 3 WEEKS to reach someone about an issue with my claim. When I finally did it was fixed in 5 mins 🙄

0 coins

Try claimyr.com - they'll wait on hold for you and connect you to a live agent. Saved me hours of frustration.

0 coins

For real? I'll check that out next time I need to call. Thx for the tip!

Just another data point: I've certified as late as 10:45pm on Sunday and still got paid on Tuesday like normal. Their system processes all Sunday certifications in one big batch overnight.

You're totally fine! I've been in the exact same situation multiple times - life happens and sometimes you just forget until late at night. I usually certify around 9 or 10pm on Sundays and have never had any issues with my Tuesday payments. The NY system batches all Sunday certifications together regardless of the time, so whether you do it at 8am or 11:59pm, it all gets processed in the same overnight batch. Your rent money should hit your account right on schedule Tuesday morning. Just try to set a phone reminder for earlier in the day next week so you don't have to stress about it!

This is really reassuring to hear! I'm definitely setting a reminder for earlier next Sunday so I don't have to go through this stress again. It's crazy how such a simple thing like forgetting to certify can cause so much anxiety when you're depending on that money for basic necessities. Thanks for sharing your experience - makes me feel way better about Tuesday!

0 coins

Don't stress about it! I've been collecting unemployment for about 8 months now and I've certified late on Sunday probably a dozen times - sometimes as late as 11:30pm. My payments have always come through on Tuesday without fail. The key thing is that you certified within the Sunday window, which you did. NY's system doesn't differentiate between early morning and late night certifications on the same day - they all get processed in the overnight batch Sunday night/Monday morning. Your direct deposit should hit your account Tuesday morning just like always. For future reference though, you might want to set a phone reminder for earlier in the day so you don't have to deal with this anxiety again!

Thanks for the reassurance! Eight months of experience definitely gives me confidence that I'll be okay. I'm realizing from all these responses that I was probably overthinking it - seems like pretty much everyone has been in this situation at some point. Definitely going to set that reminder though because the stress of wondering if rent money will come through is not something I want to repeat! Really appreciate everyone taking the time to share their experiences.

I can relate to this stress! I've been collecting for about 6 months and have definitely had those "oh crap, I forgot to certify" moments on Sunday nights. From my experience, you should be totally fine - I've certified as late as 11:45pm on Sunday and still gotten my payment Tuesday morning like clockwork. The NY system processes all Sunday certifications in one batch overnight, so the time doesn't matter as long as it's still technically Sunday. Your rent money should hit right on schedule! But yeah, I started setting a Sunday afternoon phone reminder after having this same anxiety a few times. Nothing worse than stressing about whether your basic bills will get paid because of a simple timing worry.

0 coins

This is exactly what I needed to hear! I'm new to collecting unemployment and wasn't sure how strict the timing was. It's such a relief to know that other people have been in the same boat and everything worked out fine. I was literally lying in bed last night at 10pm thinking "oh no, what if this messes up my whole payment schedule?" But it sounds like as long as I got it done on Sunday, I should be good to go. Thanks for sharing your experience - definitely going to set up that reminder too because this anxiety is not fun!

You're absolutely fine! I've been in this exact situation so many times - life gets busy and you suddenly realize at 10pm that you forgot to certify. I've been collecting for about 4 months now and have certified late on Sunday (sometimes as late as 11:30pm) probably 6 or 7 times, and my Tuesday payments have never been affected. The NY system batches all Sunday certifications together regardless of what time they come in, so whether you do it at 8am or 11:59pm on Sunday, it all gets processed in the same overnight run. Your direct deposit should hit Tuesday morning just like always. I totally get the anxiety though - when you're counting on that money for rent and bills, even a small timing concern can feel huge. But you're all set! Maybe set a phone reminder for earlier next Sunday so you don't have to stress about it again.

Thanks so much for this detailed response! It's really comforting to hear from someone who's been in this exact situation multiple times. I was definitely overthinking it - when you're relying on that money for essentials like rent, even the smallest timing concern can spiral into major anxiety. Your experience with 6-7 late certifications and no payment delays is exactly what I needed to hear. I feel much better about Tuesday now! And yes, definitely setting that reminder - no need to put myself through this stress again when it's so easily preventable.

Same thing happened to me last month! I was out with friends and didn't remember until I got home around 11pm. I was panicking thinking I'd miss my payment, but everything went through normally and I got paid Tuesday as usual. The NY system doesn't care what time on Sunday you certify - as long as it's before midnight Sunday, you're in the same processing batch as everyone else. Your payment should definitely hit on time for your rent and bills. I've learned to just set a recurring phone alarm for Sunday afternoons now so I don't forget again!

0 coins

Oh wow, that's so similar to what happened to me! I was also out dealing with family stuff and didn't even think about certifying until way later. It's such a relief to hear that you got paid normally even after certifying at 11pm - that gives me a lot of confidence that my Tuesday payment will come through as expected. I think I was just overthinking it because when you're depending on that money for rent, any little change in routine feels scary. Definitely going to follow your lead and set up that recurring alarm! Thanks for sharing your experience, it really helps calm my nerves.

You'll be fine! I've been collecting unemployment for almost a year now and I can't even count how many times I've forgotten to certify until late Sunday night. Sometimes I'm literally watching TV at 10 or 11pm and suddenly remember "oh crap, I need to certify!" I've done it as late as 11:50pm and still gotten my Tuesday payment without any issues. The NY system processes all Sunday certifications in one big batch overnight, so it doesn't matter if you do it at 8am or 11:59pm - you're all getting processed at the same time. Your rent money should definitely be there Tuesday morning! Just maybe set a reminder for earlier in the day next week so you don't have to deal with this anxiety again. I know how stressful it can be when you're counting on that money for essential bills.

This is so reassuring to hear from someone with almost a year of experience! I was definitely spiraling a bit last night thinking I might have messed up my payment schedule over something so simple. The fact that you've done it as late as 11:50pm with no issues really puts my mind at ease. I think when you're new to unemployment like I am, every little deviation from routine feels like it could be a disaster. Your comment about watching TV and suddenly remembering is exactly what happened to me - I was dealing with family stuff all day and it just completely slipped my mind until late. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience, it really helps knowing I'm not the only one who's been in this situation!

You're going to be just fine! I've been collecting unemployment for about 5 months now and have definitely been in your exact situation. I've certified as late as 11:45pm on Sunday multiple times and my Tuesday payments have always come through right on schedule. The NY system batches all Sunday certifications together during their overnight processing, so whether you certify at 9am or 10pm on Sunday doesn't matter - you're all in the same group getting processed. Your rent money should hit your account Tuesday morning as usual! I totally understand the anxiety though - when you're depending on that money for essential expenses, even a small timing worry can feel huge. Maybe set up a phone reminder for earlier on Sundays going forward so you don't have to stress about it again. But for this week, you should be all set!

Thank you so much for this reassurance! As someone who's relatively new to the unemployment system, it's incredibly helpful to hear from people with months of experience who've been in this exact situation. I was definitely overthinking it last night - when you're relying on that money for rent and basic necessities, even the smallest deviation from your normal routine can trigger major anxiety. The fact that you've certified as late as 11:45pm multiple times with no payment delays really gives me confidence that my Tuesday deposit will come through as expected. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and ease my worries!

I've been in your exact situation before and can totally relate to that late-night panic! I've been collecting unemployment for about 7 months now and have certified late on Sunday evening probably 8-10 times - sometimes as late as 11:30pm when I suddenly remember while getting ready for bed. Every single time, my Tuesday payment has come through exactly as scheduled. The NY system doesn't distinguish between morning and evening certifications on Sunday - they all get processed together in the overnight batch. Your direct deposit should definitely hit Tuesday morning for your rent and bills! I know how stressful it can be when you're depending on that money for essentials, but you're totally fine. Might want to set a Sunday afternoon phone reminder though so you don't have to go through this anxiety again!
