When will I get my unemployment benefits from NYS Department of Labor?

Filed my claim with NYS Department of Labor about 10 days ago and still haven't received anything. My account shows my weekly claim was processed but no payment date or amount. I'm getting really stressed about rent and bills coming up. Does anyone know the typical timeline for when unemployment payments actually hit your account? I set up direct deposit when I filed.

Usually takes 2-3 weeks for your first payment after filing if there are no issues with your claim. Check your online account to see if your claim status shows 'approved' or if it's still under review. Sometimes there's a delay if they need to verify your employment history.

It just says 'weekly claim processed' but doesn't show approved or anything like that. Should I be worried?

The first payment usually takes 2-3 weeks after you file your initial claim, assuming there are no issues with your application. NYS Department of Labor has to verify your employment history and process your weekly certification. If your claim is still showing 'pending' after 10 days, that's pretty normal. Just make sure you keep certifying each week even if you haven't received payment yet.

Thanks, that's reassuring. I was worried something was wrong since I haven't heard anything back from them.

took me almost a month to get my first check last year!! the system is so slow, but once it starts coming its weekly like clockwork

mine took almost a month because they had to verify my wages with my previous employer... if there's any discrepancy in your work history or they need additional documentation it can delay things significantly

If your weekly claim was processed and you don't see any red flags or pending issues in your account, you should get payment within a few business days. NYS Department of Labor typically releases payments on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Direct deposit usually shows up 1-2 days after they release it.

That's helpful thanks! I'll keep checking my bank account over the next couple days.

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to check on your claim status, I had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) last month. They helped me get connected to an actual agent who could explain why my payment was delayed. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really saved me from spending hours on hold trying to get answers.

How much does that cost? I've been trying to call for days but keep getting hung up on.

It's worth it for the peace of mind - way better than wasting entire days trying to get through on your own.

I had similar frustration trying to get through to NYS Department of Labor to check on my payment status. Ended up using Claimyr.com to actually reach someone - they have this system where they call you back when an agent is available. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Was able to get clarification on my payment timeline within a few hours instead of spending days calling.

Never heard of that service but anything is better than sitting on hold for hours just to get disconnected.

The NYS Department of Labor system is so slow right now!! I've been waiting 3 weeks for my first payment and they keep telling me to 'wait for processing' with no actual timeline. It's ridiculous that they can't give us better estimates.

Same boat here - filed 2 weeks ago and still waiting. The uncertainty is the worst part when you're counting on that money.

Same boat here - filed 2 weeks ago and nothing yet. At least we're not alone in this waiting game I guess.
