How long it takes to get unemployment check from NYS Department of Labor after approval?

My claim was approved last Tuesday and I'm wondering how long it usually takes to actually receive the unemployment check? I did direct deposit setup but haven't seen anything in my account yet. Is there a typical timeframe for NYS Department of Labor to process payments once your weekly claim is certified? I'm getting worried because I really need this money for rent next week.

For direct deposit, it's usually 2-3 business days after your weekly claim is processed. Since you were approved Tuesday, you should see the deposit by Friday or Monday at the latest. Make sure you check your my.ny.gov account to confirm your weekly claim shows as 'paid' status.

Thanks! I checked and it does say 'paid' so hopefully it hits my account tomorrow.

The timing depends on when you certified your weekly claim. If you certified on Sunday, payments usually process by Wednesday and hit your account Thursday/Friday. NYS Department of Labor processes payments in batches, so there can be slight delays during high volume periods.

This is helpful to know. I was getting anxious because it's been 3 days since I certified and nothing yet. Guess I need to be more patient with the process.

If you're having trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor to check on payment delays, I used claimyr.com recently when my payments were stuck. They have this video demo https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows exactly how their service works. Got connected to an actual agent within an hour instead of spending days trying to call myself.

Interesting, never heard of that service before. Might be worth trying if my payment doesn't show up by Monday.

Just remember that your first payment might include back pay if there was any delay in processing your initial claim. So don't be surprised if the amount is higher than expected - that's actually a good thing!
