How fast does NYS Department of Labor unemployment pay out after approval?

Got approved for unemployment benefits last Tuesday and I'm wondering how fast does unemployment pay once you're in the system? My first weekly claim was processed Wednesday but I haven't seen any money hit my account yet. I know NYS Department of Labor says 2-3 business days but is that accurate? Really need to know because I have rent due Monday and I'm cutting it close here. Anyone know the actual timeline from when they process your weekly claim to when the money shows up?

In my experience with NYS Department of Labor, once your weekly claim is processed it typically takes 2-3 business days for direct deposit. If you filed Wednesday, you should see payment by Friday or Monday at the latest. Make sure you have direct deposit set up in your account - paper checks take much longer, usually 7-10 days.

Yes I have direct deposit setup. Fingers crossed it hits Monday then because I really need it for rent!

Wait, are you sure your claim was actually approved though? Sometimes people think they're approved but they're still in adjudication. Check your my.ny.gov account under claim status - it should say 'payable' not 'pending' or 'adjudication in progress'. If it's still pending you won't get paid until NYS Department of Labor finishes reviewing everything.

Just checked and it does say payable, and my weekly claim shows as processed with a payment amount listed. So I think I'm good?

Yes, if it shows payable and has a payment amount you should definitely get paid within the 2-3 day window.

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to check on payment status, I used a service called Claimyr recently that helped me get connected to an actual agent quickly. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of calling and getting hung up on. Check out claimyr.com if you need to speak to someone.

How much does that cost though? I'm already broke waiting for my unemployment payment lol

It's worth it when you actually need to reach someone. Much better than spending all day redialing.

The NYS Department of Labor payment system is honestly pretty reliable once you're in it. I've been collecting for 8 weeks now and I always get paid exactly 3 business days after certifying. The only time there was a delay was when there was a banking holiday.

Just wanted to add - make sure you're certifying every week on time! Even if you miss the deadline by a few hours NYS Department of Labor can delay your payment. I learned that the hard way.

Good point, I've been making sure to do it first thing Sunday morning when it opens up.

If you certified Wednesday and your claim shows as payable with a payment amount, you should definitely see the money by Monday. I've been on unemployment for a few months now and NYS Department of Labor is pretty consistent with the 2-3 business day timeline for direct deposit. Since Wednesday was day 1, Friday would be day 3, so if it doesn't hit Friday it should definitely be there Monday morning. Just make sure to check your account early Monday since deposits usually process overnight. Hope it comes through in time for your rent!
