NYS Department of Labor - when do i get my unemployment money after filing?
i filed my unemployment claim with NYS Department of Labor about 2 weeks ago and still haven't gotten any money yet. my claim shows as active but no payments. when should i expect to actually receive my first unemployment check? i'm getting really stressed about rent coming up and need to know if this is normal timing or if something's wrong with my claim.

The typical timeline for NYS Department of Labor is 2-3 weeks from when you file your initial claim to receiving your first payment, but only if there are no issues with your claim. Have you been filing your weekly claims? You need to file weekly even before your claim is approved or you won't get paid for those weeks.

•yes i've been doing the weekly claims every sunday. should i be worried that it's been 2 weeks already?

mine took almost 4 weeks last year because they had to verify my employment history. check if your claim is in adjudication - that can delay everything

•how do i check if it's in adjudication? where would that show up on the my.ny.gov site?

Log into your my.ny.gov account and look at your claim status. If it says 'adjudication in progress' or anything about pending verification, that's what's causing the delay. NYS Department of Labor has to verify your work history and earnings before they can release payments. During this time, keep filing your weekly claims - if approved, you'll get back pay for all the weeks you were eligible.

•Good luck getting through to NYS Department of Labor on the phone! I've been trying for weeks and either get busy signals or get disconnected after waiting for hours. The system is completely overwhelmed right now.

2 weeks isnt that bad honestly, mine took forever because i had worked in multiple states and they had to coordinate with other agencies. just keep filing weekly and be patient

•did you have to do anything special for the multiple states thing or did NYS Department of Labor handle it automatically?

The whole NYS Department of Labor system is a joke! They make you jump through hoops for weeks while people are struggling to pay bills. I waited 6 weeks for my first payment and when I finally got someone on the phone they acted like it was MY fault for not submitting some random document I was never told about.
