How long does it take NYS Department of Labor to process unemployment claim - still waiting 2 weeks
Filed my unemployment claim with NYS Department of Labor two weeks ago and it's still showing as 'under review' on my.ny.gov portal. I submitted all the required documents and answered all the questions but haven't heard anything back yet. My last day of work was January 8th and I really need to know when I can expect my first payment. Has anyone else experienced delays like this? Is 2 weeks normal for processing or should I be worried something went wrong with my application?

Two weeks is actually pretty normal for initial claim processing. NYS Department of Labor typically takes 2-4 weeks to review new claims, especially if they need to verify your employment history or if there are any issues that require adjudication. You should receive a determination letter in the mail once they finish reviewing everything.

•Thank you! That makes me feel better. I was starting to panic thinking I did something wrong on the application.

Mine took 3 weeks last year and that was considered normal timing. Just keep filing your weekly claims even while your initial claim is still processing - you don't want to miss any weeks.

•I didn't know I should keep filing weekly claims! I thought I had to wait until my claim was approved first.

•Yeah definitely keep filing weekly claims starting from your first week of unemployment. If your claim gets approved you'll get paid for all those weeks retroactively.

ugh the whole system is SO SLOW. took them almost a month to process mine and then they had questions about why I left my job even though I put down 'lack of work' clear as day on the form

If you're having trouble getting through to someone at NYS Department of Labor to check on your claim status, I had success using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They help you get through to an actual agent instead of waiting on hold forever. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helped when I needed to ask about adjudication delays.

•Never heard of that service before. Does it actually work or is it just another scam?

•It's legit - they don't ask for any personal info, just help you navigate the phone system. Saved me hours of calling and getting disconnected.

Same boat here! Filed on January 10th and still waiting. At least I know I'm not the only one dealing with this processing time.
