NY unemployment payment missing after certifying twice - no money appearing in account

My friend has been having trouble with NY unemployment payments. They certified on Sunday (4/10/25) like clockwork but noticed no payment hit their account on Tuesday. They got worried and certified again on Tuesday, but still no money showed up on Thursday. It's now been almost a week and nothing has been released to their account at all. Has this happened to anyone else recently? What should they do? Starting to get really concerned since the rent is due next week and they're counting on this money.

The exact same thing happened to me last month! I certified on a Sunday like normal, no payment Tuesday, panicked and certified again, and ended up with nothing for 2+ weeks. Turns out certifying twice in the same week flagged my account for review. I had to call NYSDOL like 78 times before finally getting through. They told me I needed to verify my identity again and upload some documents. The second certification made the system think something fishy was going on. Tell your friend to call ASAP - the longer they wait, the more complicated it gets.

Oh no, that sounds terrible! Did they eventually release your payments after you verified your identity? And how long did that take?

I'll let them know. They weren't trying to cheat the system or anything, just got worried when nothing showed up when it usually does.

Your friend made a big mistake certifying twice in the same week. The system automatically flags this as potential fraud. It's clearly stated in the certification instructions that you should only certify once per week. Now they'll need to call and explain the situation, but it could take 4-6 weeks to resolve. The department will need to manually review their case and remove the fraud hold. In the meantime, they should continue certifying normally (just ONCE per week) so they don't miss out on any eligible weeks.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize it would cause such a serious problem. Is there any way to speed up the process? 4-6 weeks is a really long time to go without benefits.

Have you tried using Claimyr? It saved me so much time when I had a similar issue. The service calls DOL for you and holds your place in line, then calls you back when an agent is about to answer. I waited on hold for days before discovering it at claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE. Totally worth it for urgent payment issues like this.

Your friend needs to do these exact steps: 1. Stop certifying multiple times in one week 2. Call the NYSDOL at 888-209-8124 as early as possible (7:30am is when they open) 3. Press 9 for payment issues 4. Have their NY.gov ID, SSN, and all certification dates ready 5. Explain they made an innocent mistake by certifying twice 6. Request expedited review of their account The second certification likely triggered a fraud alert in the system. This is happening more frequently since the implementation of the new ID verification protocols in March 2025. Many people don't realize that certifying twice creates significant problems in the system. Your friend should also check their message center in their NY.gov account to see if there are any notices about identity verification or other issues.

Thank you! This is really specific and helpful. I'll pass this along to my friend right away. They haven't checked their message center yet so that's a good suggestion.

This happened to me and it ended up being a technical issue on their end, not even the double certification. Apparently some accounts got caught in a system update they were doing. Nobody even told me! The money just suddenly appeared after 3 weeks with no explanation. The system is such a mess right now.

That's wild that it just randomly fixed itself without explanation. Did you ever talk to anyone at NYSDOL about it?

I tried calling every day for 2 weeks but never got through. Then suddenly my backpay just showed up all at once. The whole system is completely broken if you ask me.

I'm a volunteer at a community benefits assistance center, and we're seeing this issue frequently right now. There was a system update in early April that's causing certification problems for many claimants. The double certification definitely complicates things, but even with a single certification, some people are experiencing delays. Your friend should: 1. Document everything - screenshots of certification confirmations, account status, etc. 2. Check their email and NY.gov inbox for any communication from NYSDOL 3. Call the Telephone Claims Center at 888-209-8124 4. If they can't get through by phone (very likely), they can submit a secure message through their NY.gov account explaining the situation Unfortunately, reaching an agent right now is extremely difficult due to high call volumes. When they do call, they should be prepared to stay on hold for several hours.

Thank you for this detailed information. It's somewhat relieving to hear this is a known issue and not just happening to my friend. They'll try calling first thing tomorrow morning.

if they really need to talk to a person fast they should call right when the phones open. like be dialing at 7:29 am and keep hitting redial

Thanks, they're going to try that tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed they get through!

Just wanted to update that I finally got my money after using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. It actually worked - got through to an agent in about 10 minutes after trying for days on my own. The agent fixed my account while I was on the phone and my payments started processing immediately. Might be worth it for your friend if they're desperate.

That's amazing! I'll definitely let them know about this option. They're getting pretty desperate since it's been a week now with no money.

Just to clarify something important: Your friend should NOT submit a new claim. That will only complicate things further. This is just a payment processing issue with their existing claim. Also, make sure they keep certifying weekly (just once!) even if they're not receiving payments yet. Once the issue is resolved, they'll receive all back payments they're eligible for.

Thanks for the warning! I'll make sure they don't file a new claim. They were actually considering that so you might have just saved them from making things worse.

UPDATE: My friend finally got through to NYSDOL this morning! You were all right - the double certification triggered a fraud review. They told her it would be resolved within 72 hours and all back payments would be processed. Thank you all for your help and advice!

Great news! Make sure they check their account in exactly 72 hours. If the payment hasn't processed by then, they should call back immediately. Sometimes these issues need a second follow-up.

Glad they got it sorted! How did they finally get through? Was on hold forever or did they use that service?

They used that Claimyr service someone recommended above. Said it was way easier than trying to get through on their own after multiple failed attempts.
