NY unemployment payment missing after Sunday claim - first delay in months

I certified for my NY unemployment benefits Sunday around 8pm like I always do, but I still haven't received my payment. Usually the money hits my account by Tuesday morning at the latest, but it's now Wednesday and nothing! This has never happened before - I've been claiming for months with zero issues. No messages in my account inbox either. Is anyone else experiencing delays this week? Should I be worried?

same thing happened to me this week too! certified sunday night and still nothing. the website shows my claim as processed but no $$ in my acct. NYS must be having some kind of system glitch

That makes me feel a little better that I'm not the only one. Do you think we should call them or just wait it out?

There's a payment processing delay affecting some claims filed on Sunday evening. NYSDOL mentioned it briefly on their Twitter yesterday. They're saying payments should be deposited by Friday at the latest. If you don't receive it by then, definitely call, but it's likely just the system delay they mentioned.

Thank you! I don't use Twitter so I had no idea. Friday seems so long to wait when you're counting on that money for bills though...

This is why I always certify Sunday morning! Their system gets overloaded Sunday nights and weird stuff happens. One time my certification didn't even go through and I had to wait a whole extra week.

I've been on NY unemployment since January and this is the 3rd time I've experienced random payment delays. The most frustrating part is never knowing what's happening or why. Last time I waited 4 days and the money just appeared with no explanation! If you absolutely need to speak with someone at NYSDOL (which is nearly impossible with their phone system), I finally had success using Claimyr.com - they got me through to an agent in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Thank you! I might need this if my payment doesn't show up by Friday. Did the agent give you any useful information when you finally got through?

Yes, they actually explained that sometimes batches of claims get flagged for additional review even when there's nothing wrong with them. The agent was able to release my payment while I was on the phone. Having a real person look at your claim makes all the difference.

DID U CHECK IF UR BENEFIT YEAR EXPIRED?? That happened to me and I didn't even realize it until I called! You have to refile after a year even if you still have a balance showing.

No, I still have 16 weeks left and I've only been on unemployment for about 4 months, so that's not it. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I went through something similar in February. Certified on Sunday night, no payment by Wednesday. I completely panicked because I had rent due. Called about 40 times before getting through, and the agent told me there was a "payment processing delay" affecting random claims that week. The most important thing is to check your payment history on the website. If it shows your payment as "released" but you don't have it yet, that usually means it's just delayed in the banking system. If it doesn't show as released at all, then there might be an issue with your claim that needs attention.

Just checked and mine doesn't say "released" yet - it's still showing as "pending." I guess that means there might be a problem with my claim specifically? Now I'm getting nervous again.

If it's showing as "pending" after 3 days, you should definitely call. That usually means there's either a system flag on your claim or they need additional information. The sooner you get through to someone, the faster it can be resolved.

I've been trying to call all morning but can't get through - just endless busy signals or the automated system that eventually hangs up. This is so frustrating!

Just saw your update about the "pending" status. That definitely warrants a call. When I had this issue and used Claimyr to get through, they explained that certain answers on your weekly certification can trigger a review flag, even if you've answered the same way for months. Something as simple as the system update they did in March could be causing new flags on previously fine claims.

I think I'm going to try that service you mentioned tomorrow morning if I still can't get through on my own. At this point, I just need to talk to a real person who can tell me what's going on with my money.

Update from my end - I also certified Sunday night and had a delay, but my payment just hit my account about an hour ago. Check yours, maybe it came through! My payment history on the website still shows "pending" even though the money actually arrived, so their system might be lagging behind the actual payments.

Just checked and nothing in my account yet, but that gives me hope! Maybe it's just working through the backlog and mine will come later today. Thanks for the update!

UPDATE: My payment finally hit this morning (Thursday)! The status on the website still says "pending" but the money is definitely in my account. Looks like it was just a processing delay after all. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance!

Great news! This is very common with NYSDOL systems - the payment status lags behind the actual deposit by 1-2 days sometimes. Glad it worked out without having to make calls.
