NY unemployment payment delayed after Sunday certification - money still not in account

I certified for my NY unemployment benefits early Sunday morning around 2:00 a.m. like I always do, but it's now been over 48 hours and still nothing in my account. Normally the money hits by Monday afternoon at the latest. This is the first time I've had a delay like this in my current claim period. Is the system backed up or something? Anyone else experiencing delayed payments this week? Getting a little worried since I have bills coming up soon.

Yea me too. I certified Sunday at like 7am and usually get paid Monday by 6pm but nothing yet. Probly system issue with them upgrading stuff? NYS always messin with something.

Glad it's not just me. Wonder if it's affecting everyone or just random accounts? Have you tried calling them yet?

This happens occasionally when NYSDOL is processing a large volume of claims or when they're doing system maintenance. The good news is that delayed payments almost always arrive within 3-5 business days. The Department typically doesn't consider a payment actually "late" until it's been 7 business days from certification. A few things to check: 1. Log into your NY.gov account and check your payment history - does it show "pending" or "processed"? 2. Make sure there were no questions you answered differently during certification 3. Verify your claim hasn't reached its benefit year ending (BYE) date If it goes beyond Friday without payment, then you should definitely contact them directly.

Thank you! I just checked and it shows "pending" rather than "processed" like it usually does. My BYE date isn't until November 2025, so that shouldn't be the issue. I'll wait until Friday before panicking then.

I've been collecting since January, and I've noticed that sometimes when there's a holiday coming up (even if it's not directly before the certification date), the payments can be delayed. The labor department might be processing things differently because of Memorial Day coming up next week. My payment is also delayed this week and I've found it's usually not worth stressing until it hits the 5-day mark.

Oh yea, forgot memorial day is coming. That makes sense actually. They probly processing early for some ppl and backed up for others.

STILL NOT PAID EITHER!!! This is RIDICULOUS!!! I have bills due TOMORROW and rent on FRIDAY!!! How are we supposed to survive when they just randomly hold our money with NO EXPLANATION?? I tried calling the automated system and it just says "pending" with no other info. Has anyone ACTUALLY talked to a HUMAN at unemployment about this????

I feel your stress! I'm in the same boat - rent coming up and my landlord doesn't care about NYSDOL delays. I tried calling about 20 times yesterday but couldn't get through - just endless hold times and then disconnects. It's maddening. Does anyone know of a better way to reach an actual agent?

After struggling with the same issue last month (payment delayed for almost a week), I finally found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an unemployment agent in about 20 minutes instead of waiting for hours or days. They basically navigated the phone system and secured my place in line, then called me when they got a representative. Saved me so much frustration! Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE The agent I spoke with explained that sometimes payments get randomly flagged for additional review, especially if there's been any system updates recently. Once I got someone on the phone, they released the payment within 24 hours.

Does it actually work? Seems weird to use a service just to make a phone call but I'm desperate at this point. Did they tell you why your payment was delayed?

Yes, it actually worked for me. The agent told me my payment had been flagged for a random quarterly review (which apparently they do), but since everything was in order, they pushed it through manually. Without getting through to someone, it might have taken the full week to clear automatically.

Just checked and mine came through too! What a relief. Thanks everyone for the reassurance that I wasn't the only one experiencing this.

Glad to hear payments are starting to come through! This is pretty typical of how NYSDOL handles these temporary delays - they often process a large batch of delayed payments all at once. For anyone still waiting, you should see yours very soon. For future reference, when you see a delay like this, check the NY DOL Twitter account (@NYSLabor) as they sometimes post alerts about processing delays, though admittedly they're not always quick to acknowledge these issues.

Great tip about checking their Twitter! Just followed them for future updates. Mine came through as well, just about an hour ago. Seems like they're releasing them in batches.

got mine too finally! not gonna spend it all in one place lol. but seriously why cant they just TELL US when theres gonna be a delay instead of making everyone panic?

EXACTLY!!! A simple system message or email would prevent so much anxiety! "Hey, payments will be delayed 2-3 days this week due to system maintenance" - how hard would that be?? But no, they leave us hanging and wondering if we'll be able to pay bills. At least we all got paid finally.
